iliketurtles
I had a portable player in college and brought a crate of records. Go for it!
justaminrthreat
I probably would take them. If you're living at home with your parents there's no telling what they might do with them while you're away. I'm pretty particular about the handling of my records, though. jhamm212
take them.
ariotofwords
I had a portable player in college and brought a crate of records. Go for it! yea this was pretty much my plan. I will just have to make sure my room mate understands they cant be messed with.
cadetapplesauce
i did it. you have a LOT of free time in college, so it helps. especially when studying and stuff. well maybe thats not the case for everyone.
mrc
i didnt take them my first year when i was living in the dorms on campus. i was assigned a room mate and the rooms were pretty small, not that my collection was huge back then but space was really limited. My 2nd year of college i moved into a off campus condo so i had the space and also felt safer than the dorms.
hickey
I took some vinyl with me, only the essentials. But that was way before ipods and such.
ryantheterrible
yeah man only bring some. Bringing my collection to college freshman year was a terrible mistake, what with people spilling soda and beer all over the crates while i was partying elsewhere. Ya, I was always paranoid with drunk people in my little dorm room around my records. That is never fun. So I just brought a couple to college until I got out of the dorms. cadetapplesauce
yeah, don't bring your whole collection. i only brought good stuff to listen to.
momentumlost
i agree with everyone...bring one crate and the player... you never know what may happen and space is limited... once you get out of the dorms then bring the whole shebang... hyperinactive
i just moved up to college a month ago. for summer term i am in an apt in this sketchy neighborhood so i didnt bring them. in a week i am moving into a house, so will be bringing them up then. i also didnt really want to move them twice so soon
adammuzzy
i'm not bringing any records or my record player freshman year. especially since i'm in a triple, with two dudes who i already don't like and haven't even met them.
ericxthexred
I took some vinyl with me, only the essentials. But that was way before ipods and such. yep... i dubbed a bunch of stuff to tape and brought my "i cant live without these" collection. just kept them secure under my bed, away from my constant-pot-smoking retard roommate. jaime
i didnt last year (my first year) but this year i probably will, if i get a smaller/newer record player haha. i still use an oldass record player with two huge ass speakers. but ill definately only be bringing one crate with only some records. melvinscam
you gotta be careful. once i was spinning the Decline and having a few drinks and this kid walked and was like "wow a turntable!" and then started scratching it. i had to jump up and punch him in the head. Duff
when i first started i only took a few with me. the things i listened to the most. any records i ordered got sent home and when i would go home after semesters it was an early christmas or christmas in may. the number of records i bring now are next to none though. whatails
my freshman year somebody spilled a beer on my turntable while it was spinning. after that i left my player home and resorted to tapes for a year or so, since they took up less space and couldn't be easily fucked up. now i live in a house, so its worth it to lug the vinyl up. xjustinxschwierx
if you're living in a dorm, this is a terrible idea. If you are and do, you forfeit all rights to complaining when your records start to disappear and get ruined by drunk idiots.
electricsnow
Definitely worth it to bring it up once you're not living in the dorms. Last year while i lived in the dorms there wasn't really any room for a turntable/records.
skumbucket
bring them if you need something to listen to, but they won't get you laid. probably.
AlexH.
I did it freshman year, but then, I only started the year with about 10 LPs, and I go to a college where you aren't allowed to drink, and I properly educated everyone who would come into the room on how to use a turntable and how not to try to be a DJ. I'm in an apartment suite this year, with dudes I know, and I'm definitely bringing my whole collection with my Expedit.
iliketurtles
I lived in the most crowded dorm room on campus. 5 other dudes in my room! I had a lockable closet thing though and everything was safe in there when I was gone. Basically retarded drunk friends of roomates would ask if they could scratch on my 'table and I would politely kick them to death.
