monk0nuggets
So, as some of you might know, I'm looking into getting my defunct band's last 3 songs pressed. The problem is that I'm not too familiar with getting vinyl pressed. I've worked with CDs before, but not wax. Anyone on here have any recommendations as to where a good place to get this pressed at is? Being that we would have to fork out all the cash out of pocket for this, I would really like to just do one color clear and maybe do inserts ourselves. I'm thinking a run of 100-200. What do you guys think?
andrews
I've looked into this a bit and from what I can tell its not really that easy to do if you can't commit to selling about 300.
monk0nuggets
We could definitely sell 300, but I don't think we could afford to press that many at this point. Also, I asked for a quote from Pirate Press, but have yet to receive a reply. Also, for those that haven't heard the new tunes, you can check them out here: www.myspace.com/hellostarvega
andrews
If you are so sure you can sell them then I would do a preorder.

danalive
my band is about to press our first 7" and we are doing 100 copies. there is a plant in nashville called United that we are going to use. they have a super complicated and somewhat confusing order form, but ive had friends press stuff there and they do a good job. http://www.urpressing.com/

matt
If you are so sure you can sell them then I would do a preorder. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT DO A PRE ORDER FOR YOUR FIRST RELEASE other plants to look into http://www.billsmithcustomrecords.com/ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED http://www.musicolrecording.com/ dont know anymore but used to be extremely cheap http://www.recordpressing.com/ basically the same as pirates press since they are a broker that presses through GZ but still seperate and could be cheaper. pretty sure virgil uses them. united and musicol would probably be the cheapest for that amount but definitely email or call bill smith. sgoodcore
Virgil uses recordpressing.com. I've used a place in LA named Rainbo for both CDs and a double LP and have been happy with them.
monk0nuggets
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT DO A PRE ORDER FOR YOUR FIRST RELEASE I would technically be our 3rd release, but I don't plan on doing a pre-order. It would be nice, but I'm not sure that would be ideal for this situation.
matt
i mean as far as your first release on this format. its a completely different situation to handle than getting cds pressed.

andywax
United has messed up too many of my releases for me to even think about using them in the future.
sftravis
I used United and was happy with the results. I used http://www.aardvarkmastering.com/ for the mastering and he did a great job. Keep in mind this was 9 years ago.
andywax
Aardvark is awesome. They used to do all of No Idea's mastering too.

monk0nuggets
I'm a bit confused. The recording is already mastered on cd. Does it have to be remastered for a vinyl press?

monk0nuggets
Alright. I didn't know that. So, if I had it mastered at one place, I would have them ship it to the pressing factory?
