thestigmachine
I won a test-pressing of Snuff's "Tweet Tweet My Lovely" on eBay, and I just got it in the mail today. It's still factory sealed. And I'm unsure whether I should open it or not. I'm leaning towards opening it up, so I can spin it (you know, at least once if nothing else), and see what it looks like and stuff... My philosophy is that records are more useful on a turntable than anywhere else, even though it's quite rare... So I'm just wondering: Has anybody else here ever gotten a sealed test-pressing? Did you open it, or leave it sealed?
cj
who would have sealed it? thats wierd
stefan
How do you know it's *factory* sealed? I say open it, maybe it's cracked! You can always reseal it later if that matters to you.
jhulud
Never heard of test presses being sealed. Open that shit and play it dude!
mrc
dont test presses just come in white sleeves? and doesnt the record label have to listen to each test before they send that record to press to make sure it sounds ok? Its hard to believe a test press has never been spun.

Duff
why would a test press be sealed, especially factory sealed.
thestigmachine
From the description on eBay: "Unopened test press you ask? Well, RTI, the plant where this album was pressed, sends out their test pressings in sealed vinyl bags with the covers stamped with the matrix etc." Thanks guys, for re-assuring me that opening it is the right thing to do! I'm gonna go listen to it right now.
cadetapplesauce
i got a sealed test press from jade tree. i imagine a label would leave it sealed because they only felt like they needed to listen to a couple of them.
kirbypuckett
I'd rather have a Seal test press.
deville
Open it and give it a listen, and if you want to sell it later get a buddy that works at Blockbuster and have them re-seal it for you since they have a shrink wrap machine in the back. ericxthexred
Its hard to believe a test press has never been spun. unless you're 70% of labels these days that purposely do test press overruns to sell off. kiiiiiinnnnnddddaaaaa dumb

kyle
Its hard to believe a test press has never been spun. unless you're 70% of labels these days that purposely do test press overruns to sell off. kiiiiiinnnnnddddaaaaa dumb That's why I don't buy tests from labels, even though some labels have had some cool tests for sale. Seems pretty lame when a test pressing is /20. However, if it helps offset the cost of pressing the record and helps more records get put out and some kid ends up happy with his test then more power to the label, but I won't be buying them. mrc
yeah, it was much more satisfying to buy those steinways tests from a band member and knowing that the money was going to help pay for recording new music (grath's solo stuff)
cadetapplesauce
i bought my shooks - facetious folly feat test pressing from the band.. i didn't feel too bad knowing that i spent more than i should have, though, because i knew it was helping them get out of debt.
