willbratt
Has anyone encountered this? I've been disappointed to find that probably 10% of my collection will not fit gently on the spindle of my turntable. Some require some coaxing while others are just straight up too small to fit. BUMS ME OUT!
markalark17
I have some that "need coaxing", but I don't have any that flat out won't fit. I know that some people use the corkscrew from a swiss army knife to make it bigger.
riddle350
I don't have any that are too small but a few are a little snug.
ronniethebear
Sometimes there's excess vinyl still stuck in the hole from not being punched properly, and sometimes you have to use a good sharp knife to gently carve a little bit out off the edges. I wouldn't go for that option if you don't have a really steady hand, though.
markalark17
I have a few 7"s that are really rough around the edge (outer edge). Do any of you guys have that problem? Could I just use a file, and smooth it out?
inutil
My Final Fantasy - He Poos Clouds is a bit small...it's painful to pull it out.
willbratt
I have a first pressing of Cursed "I" that has and will remain unplayed simply because the hole wasn't punched properly at all and there is still a good amount of vinyl where the hole should be. Doesn't bother me because I have the 2nd press on 180g, but still kinda silly.
mcm1610
The only one I had this problem with was my 12" DJ single of that "Boots with the fur" song I bought for 99 cents as a joke. I just carved it larger with a pocket knife, but made it a bit too big on accident.
counterfiction
there's a joke to be made here but it's too easy.
billynomates
Just stick the "wrong" end of a biro in and give it a good twist. Usually works for me. Ha ha. I have shed loads of records that I need to do that to. Buckets full.

chiefwahoo
I take a pair of closed scissors, put them into the hole gently, and lightly turn. I like to think it affects the hole evenly that way. It takes very little turning to fix the problem
mystic84
i also have this problem with some records. one of those is "regaining unconsciousness" by NOFX. i bought three or four copies at a time and they all have this problem. I have a handful of records from FAT that have this problem, so it must be their pressing plant. I have one record (not a FAT release) that is so tight that it won't lay flat on the turntable, it plays all wobbly, which I probably shouldn't do anymore

radioclash27
The hole and the sticker in my copy of The PMRC Can Suck On This is so off center. And the sticker is over the grooves. I also bought a Special Duties record like 7 years ago, with no hole at all.

Guest genericinsight
I just tried to play the End Of A Year LP I had bought a month ago (forgot I didn't play it yet) last night and sure enough, won't fit on the spindle. Looked and yeah, too much excess vinyl in the hole. I want to try and see if I can cut some of it out but I'm afraid I'll fuck it up, my hand is far from steady. I may use the closed scissors option that someone suggested earlier in this thread though.

I tried this on my End of a Year LP I mentioned earlier tonight and it worked, record fits perfectly on my spindle. you get a +1 for helping someone with your suggestions.
