minty
vinyl UH OHHHH. I always clean my records with a dust brush before playing them, it's just common sense.
mystic84
anti-static dust brush too.
derbsauce
I bought a brush recently and use it on both sides before play, but is there a PROPER way of cleaning with a brush?
mystic84
let the record spin and brush it "following" the grooves. at least that's what i do.
corbet
The cleaning solution made here: http://www.teresaudio.com/haven/cleaner/cleaner.html looks like it would probably be the best, but where the hell would I get a wetting agent? Lab grade alcohol isn't available online either.

monk0nuggets
let the record spin and brush it "following" the grooves. at least that's what i do. So do you mean play it in reverse and drag the brush outward? Thats what I do at least.
xfedaykinx
how do you play it in reverse? i just let the record play, place the brush perpendicular to the grooves, and pull it back outward slowly. edit: i have a turntable from the 70s, so i dont know what these newfangled machines are capable of
monk0nuggets
On my turntable there is a reverse button. I play it in reverse so that when I pull the brush outward it goes with the grooves rather than against them. I'm not sure how much this helps, but I do it anyway. appendicitis
never had any problem with straight-up isopropyl alcohol. just put it on a cotton rag/old tshirt and don't touch the paper label. no warps and very fast drying.
ocnypunk
ive always use a microfiber cloth(like the ones used for lcd screens) with a 1 part alcohol/2 parts water solution. For minor dust particles i just spray it with canned air.
mystic84
canned air scares me.
