skanknsmile
So, I just got my second album(the Jon Snodgrass/Cory Brannon Split) that had the box all fucked and the record and cover completely bent up and warped. What the fuck is wrong with the USPS system? Why do they hate me? FUUUUUUUCK.
monk0nuggets
That really sucks. I've been lucky; never have I gotten anything severely damaged from the postal service, that wasn't due to the initial packaging of the record.
Duff
the only problem i've ever had with USPS was one of my packages came soaked front to back in toner. the mailer was black and was still wet to the touch, clearly happened while it was in their hands. the mail man wasn't sure how it happened, but another package probably leaked on it while it was in his bag or truck. he said take it up with the post office, which i did. luckily the post office is only 2 blocks away from my job. they tried to put the blame on someone else, claiming there is no way to tell when or where it happened and even tried blaming me, saying how do we know you didn't purposely pour toner on the package. they didn't even believe their own co-worker who vouched my story. bottomline was they were not responsible because the package wasn't insured, even though the package was practicaly dripping toner. hickey
Post office is not responsible for damage, etc...unless the item is insured. Period. There's no sense in calling, there's no sense in going to the post office, there's no sense in talking to the damn post master general. If it is not insured, they can't and won't do dick. skanknsmile
I know, but this is making me veeeeeery weary about shipping my records to new york. I will be doing it UPS and first class, and insuring it, so I should be safe, right? RIGHT?!?!
ohiopride
we can hope pal. they damage your stuff and lose mine. i feel your pain.
usps
Very sorry to hear about experience. True collectors should insure all packages, $50 worth of insurance costs only $1.75, $200 is only $2.75. http://www.usps.com/insurance/welcome.htm Also: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/vinylhome/Items/VCInsurance

mcm1610
I'm lucky enough that my collection still fits in a small number of boxes and crates and I can load up my car to move (I've done it 3 times in the last 14 months). If I had a huge collection, I'd rent a u-haul with the money I'd be spending to ship it.
