This is a really exciting day. We are proud to be able to offer our digital releases to you in our online store. I know, I know, "welcome to 1999". Yes, I know we are a bit slow to make this happen, but better late than never right? Well, you might ask why we would want to sell our digital releases directly when folks can get our albums on Itunes, Amazon, and so on. Without going into a long tirade, I will quickly explain the economics of a sale on Itunes. Itunes sells our albums for $9.99, they take 30 percent and give $7.00 to our digital distributor, IODA. IODA takes 15 percent and pays us $5.95. Don't get me wrong, I love that our albums are available on Itunes and think the world of IODA, but instead of making Itunes some money, I would prefer to pass that savings onto all of you.

So from this point on, you can get Suburban Home albums on mp3 for $5.99, on the Flac format for $9.99. Our Under the Influence singles and 7" records can be purchased digitally on mp3 for $1.25 and on the Flac format for $1.99. For those of you not familiar with Flac, it is a lossless format. Our mp3s are encoded at 320Kbps.

To commemorate the launch of our digital store, we want to give you a FREE, SUBURBAN HOME SAMPLER! The sampler is being given away locally to promote Chad Price's upcoming release shows. It features 3 songs by Chad Price (2 studio tracks, 1 live track, a song from Micah Schnabel (of Two Cow Garage)'s first solo album, a live Two Cow Garage track from Suburban Home's 14th Anniversary (their cover of American Girl recorded by James Freeman), and tracks from nearly all of our releases over the past year. You can get the digital album by checking out through our store (it is free), and sooner than later, you will receive an email with the digital download code to download the sampler. This is how it will work if you purchase any of our digital albums. Purchase it and hopefully sooner than later (within a half an hour, hopefully sooner), you will get a link and a code to download the album.

This is a great idea. I'm gonna grab a few digital albums. The only question I have is what is the quality of the mp3's?

the code works. my computer just sucks and keeps cutting the download off and saying download complete. tried it twice. cut the download off at 150mb and the other at 124mb.

Ive seen other sites do this, only to go farther in the hole because of the gigs of people downloading. Part of why itunes takes that amount is for their large server bills, etc.

its a great price for the album, and everyone should definitely go straight to VC to download them, and skip itunes. but just wanna make sure you guys arent gonna have a headache trying to save kids some money.

I'm sure not all your cds are 5 bucks, but just from a glance most are. I dont know about you guys but i would rather order a few cds and have a physical copy than pay the same amount for some MP3s.

I love the idea, it's about time someone starts offering FLAC! I stopped buying 7"'s to save some money and this helps a lot, thanks.

That said I feel the FLAC album downloads are over priced. You can buy the CD for the same price with full packaging. $7.99 should be the most, though I'd love to see them at $5.99

Any chance you'll offer FLAC downloads with SH/VC releases? Perhaps for another buck or two?

By the way the FLAC version of Delicious Vinyl is not working, only downloads about half.

great point... digital music sales are a losing game, pretty much no matter what. iTunes is only there to sell iPods. They don't make shit on the sales of mp3's... They maybe make a couple of pennies per track at best.

so watch out there.. the download bandwidth is going to kill you especially with the flac content.. and the difference between 320 and 256 is so minor that no one could tell the difference and if they say they can they are lying.

1. our $5.00 CDs end tonight, they will be $8.99 plus shipping tomorrow and on.

2. Good points on the Flac pricing, I guess it makes sense to have them cost less than the CD which they kind of do since you don't pay shipping on Flac, but more than likely I iwll bring the price down.

3. About server / bandwidth concerns, we have an unlimited account through dreamhost.

4. sorry about those of you having problems downloading albums. I think we are just getting hammered with a ton of downloads. IF the problems persist, email ralph at suburban homerecords dot com. he is the guy to point questions/problems to.

yeah good luck with that.. pretty sure there is a limit.. apple doesn't get unlimited bandwidth and they pay a shit ton for CDN's and what not.. but hey hope it works out..
