The Rasputins in downtown SF fucking sucks and I can't believe anyone in their right mind is saying they liked it more than Amoeba. You are insane. Unfortunately there really aren't very many good record stores left in SF these days. Here's a few though. Thrillhouse Records http://www.thrillhouserecords.com/sfStore.html (sort of like the old Epicenter or Mission Records...cheap punk stuff, volunteer run) Grooves http://www.yelp.com/biz/grooves-inspiralled-vinyl-san-francisco Just a nice smaller general vinyl store. All genres, not much punk/indie but sometimes you make a score here. Rooky's http://www.rookyricardosrecords.com/ Great store for soul/funk/R&B etc. singles. Recycled http://www.recycled-records.com/ This store actually isn't very good, but if you are already on Haight Street to go to Amoeba, may as well walk a few blocks the other direction to stop in and check it out. Shaxul Records http://www.yelp.com/biz/shaxul-records-san-francisco Super tiny all metal shop, directly across the street from Amoeba If you are heading across the bay to Oakland/Berkeley.... 1-2-3-4 Go! Records http://www.yelp.com/biz/1-2-3-4-go-records-oakland Best store in the bay area for punk/indie vinyl. Then up on Telegraph Ave, there's the original Amoeba and another Rasputins.
