jimmythescumbag
Hello all. Does anyone here have any experience with the following manufacturer of cartridges, headphones, and accessories? http://www.gradolabs.com/frameset_main.htm A friend told me he picked up the "green" model for $80 and that it is supposed to be the "best cartridge for under $500 you can buy." I am currently using an Ortofon DJ-S cartridge/stylus on a Technics SL-D202 direct drive running into a Gemini PMX-60 DJ mixer with AKG K44 headphones, so I guess I am just wondering if this would be a good investment, seeing as how I am getting to that point where I am about to need a new stylus. Unfortunately, a new table and/or receiver/amp is not in the budget at the moment, so I thought I may just start here for now.
mxv
I have a Grado Gold and have been extremely happy with it.
jimmythescumbag
How much did that one set you back?
mattstrike
Jimmy - Go for it. Grado is a highly respected company. Family run forever. They invented the moving coil cart. If you think you'll be able to afford a TT upgrade within 200-500 hours of playback on a new cart, go for one of their higher-end carts. Of course, Ortofon isn't too shabby either - they make some damn fine carts… in fact their carts probably outperform Grado's.
dynamitekid
Grado is awesome. Their headphones have excellent sound quality too.
xxmartinxx
Had a Grado Gold for years. Very nice sounding cart. Also had a pair of their headphones. Also quality. I'd say it's recommended.
jimmythescumbag
Awesome. I appreciate the input, and will more than likely invest in a new cartridge once I get some extra cheese.
gojira
I'd been considering a Grado Green myself for a while but it'll have to come after new speakers.
apeman
I've been extremely satisfied with the quality of their headphones, but haven't tried out the cartridges yet. Anyone with experience in the result of using Grado Prestige Gold with a Planar 3?
