puerto rico

Recommended Posts

I was married to a Puerto Rican for 6 years and have been to La Isla Del Encanto many times. I love Puerto Rico and intend to retire there.

If it's open, do the tour through Camuy Cavern. http://www.gotopuertorico.com/caving-puerto-rico.php

If the weather is appropriate, drive to Fajardo and take the ferry to Isla Culebra. When you get off, there's a man that operates a shuttle service that will take you to Playa Flamenco -- one of the top five beaches in the world.

Here's the ferry schedule from Fajardo:

You'll have to leave from Fajardo to get to the other island -- Vieques -- which is where the good phosphorescent bay is that you want to go to. There's another one in Luquillo also, but it's not as good.

If you want to check out a beach without all of the travel associated with it, there's a nice public one in Luquillo.

Here's a picture I took last time I was there:

I would also highly recommend walking through Old San Juan. There are a tonne of little neat shops and It's just an interesting place to look at. Some examples:

I don't remember the details on this statue, but it looked pretty cool. I think it's in front of some government building or something.

At the very end of Calle del Cristo you'll find the Capilla de Cristo, which was build in 1753 and I believe is one of the oldest churches in North America, though I could be really wrong on that.

Conveniently, at the end of walking through Old San Juan you'll come across Fort San Felipe del Morro, which is worth checking out. You can also check out La Fortaleza (built in 1533-- one of the oldest buildings in the US and the oldest executive mansion in the new world) while you're there.

I also really love Ponce which is on the south central coast of the island and about a 2 hour drive from San Juan, but it's through the mountains and a really pretty trip.

And lastly, go to El Yunque rainforest. There are several trails you can walk, all of them are incredible. Link and photos:
