Who is The Suburbs? And why'd they win the grammy?

I'm more pissed about the Best Metal grammy being an absolute joke. Like the people who decide the nominees/winners haven't listened to anything new since 1990. They just nominate any popular metal band from the 80's that puts out anything. I remember one year Slayer put out an album, they get nominated and won. The next year they put out a deluxe edition of the same album and one of the unreleased tracks that wasn't even good enough for the album also gets nominated and also wins.

What a joke. Yeah don't even consider bands like Baroness, High on Fire, Isis, BTBAM, etc. Just keep giving the award to the same 5 bands over and over. Yeah Death Magnetic was a great album totally deserving of the award. Ooh look they nominated Lamb of God that totally shows that they're hip to what's going on in metal.

this is why i roll my eyes at neil young and petty being nominated for awards.

between arcade fire and esperanza spalding winning, i feel like there is a chance that grammys/awards shows could someday return to being relevant, accurate, and not entirely retarded.

its not a problem that bieber and gaga are being nominated for awards.. because in the right categories they really deserve awards.

The funny thing is how violently loyal stupid people are to the crap they are told to like by MTV and the dominant entertainment infomonster. Not only are they proudly ignorant of anything outside their narrow worldview, they are actually angry that such a world exists and that it could possibly produce music of value. I absolutely LOVE listening to people who believe -- I mean really, truly believe -- that a bands value and its popularity are in direct correlation. And this particular example is even more curious. Here's a band that IS extremely popular among a certain segment of the population. Still, in the grand scheme of things they have no hope of ever truly reaching the level of Lady Ga Ga or Eminem. Occasionally some indie band like the Promise Ring or Jawbox or whatever will gain a little momentum in the music marketplace and everyone in the underground starts getting all wound up about them being mainstream and on the verge of something huge. It's never going to happen. The populace is addicted to mediocrity. I truly believe people are afraid to be seen as different or individuals when it comes to music.

Also, I hate Arcade Fire. They sound like generic indie rock blandness to me. But I'm glad this happened. Good for them.
