combatwaffle
I have a Pro-Ject Dubut III and I've had it for about 8 months now. Ever since I've had it, there's been a buzzing noise that comes out of the speakers whenever my receiver turns on with the turntable plugged in. At first it didn't bother me too much, but I feel like by now it's either gotten louder or as time has gone on it's just gotten more and more agitating and I'm now at the tipping point. I've Googled this several times but I have yet to find anything that has been able to help me. Some notes: -My turntable is properly grounded to the back of my receiver. -I have bought a ground loop isolator (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062214) and had to return it because it didn't do anything. -I've rearranged my room and tried my setup in different rooms/houses. -I don't have a computer, CD player, or a light dimmer near by. -I've tried using a surge protector and the wall outlet. This is really frustrating me as I don't even like to play my records anymore due to the noise. If anyone can guide me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. idreamofpunk
I have the same issue with my old turntable, but that was an ancient Technics SL-D3. Been wanting to fix it, though.
combatwaffle
sounds like it isnt grounded That's what I would think but I don't know what else to do about that. I have the ground wire connected to the back of my receiver, which is what I assume would ground it, but that doesn't seem to be the case. youspinmeround
is it just when you turn it on or is it constant?
combatwaffle
The turntable doesn't have to be on. As long as the receiver is on and the turntable is plugged into the receiver, it makes the noise.
mcpherson123
Just taking a shot in the dark here but it could be the RCA inputs that your turntable is plugged into on the receiver or have you tried a different RCA cable from the table to the receiver? Does the table have a non-detachable one?
combatwaffle
The Debut III has non detachable RCA cables.
thebambino
dude i don't know, it seems like you've done the right things. i have the same player, i have no such issues. maybe hit up your local hi-fi shop? try to find some old guy who looks like he's been working on stereos for about 50 years, almost guaranteed he can help you. youspinmeround
Trying switching the cables into another channel on the receiver(if available) If that happens, I would defintely say its the turntable and most likely the cables
combatwaffle
Trying switching the cables into another channel on the receiver(if available)If that happens, I would defintely say its the turntable and most likely the cables I plugged them into another input and I still got the buzz. I'm going to email Pro-Ject but since it's been 8 months I doubt I'll be able to get anywhere with that.
iainthepitman
i had this, it sounded like a buzzing and a bird chirping coming through the speakers. tried the same stuff, moving it record player and stereo to the other side of the house, changing cables etc. ended up buying a £10 preamp to replace the expensive preamp i had and it fixed it. thieves
does the buzz go away when you touch the ground wire and/or the ground contact on your receiver? maybe the ground wire is bad and needs to be replaced.
combatwaffle
No. It kind of alters the sound but doesn't get higher or lower.
thieves
i'd really consider replacing the ground wire
combatwaffle
How would I go about doing that? Google search turns up nothing.

thieves
Check your cartridge connections. oooh good one as for replacing the ground wire, you'd probably have to pop open the turntable and re-solder the wire
combatwaffle
Check your cartridge connections. I tried this too; I took the cartridge off and the buzzing still persisted. I'm kind of hesitant on opening it up... I'm going to wait until the Pro-Ject people respond to my email.
combatwaffle
Now my left channel isn't working... It's still buzzing but no sound from a record comes out when I play something. The right side is fine (despite it still buzzing). Just one thing after the other. I will never buy another Pro-Ject turntable.

combatwaffle
My comment was premature... but still this is very frustrating.

This has nothing to do with Pro-Ject, it has to deal with you tinkering on a machine that you don't understand. Take it to a professional. The fact that now the left channel doesn't work means you either destroyed your cartridge, stylus, connection pins, or cartridge cables.
