firstwefall
Does anyone have any info on this? Its the 1962-1966 red album, but it's stamped as a promo, not for sale... It's just like this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Beatles-Red-Album-PROMO-Property-of-Capitol-Records-/260974181762?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc345fd82 Shoot me a pm if you can give some info... Thanks!
One Hundred Fifty-Two
Someone can correct me, but 99% of the time promo stamps are equal or lesser value than non promo stamped. I am also betting that auction won't sell.
000000
yeah, usually its just a copy they gave to a radio station or something. i have a few promos (not Beatles) but they're really not worth much more if anything more at all
masonxstorm91
yeah it's a sticker there is nothing different about that and a retail other than the sticker
firstwefall
sweet. i already have a non-promo one but saw someone selling this on craigslist fairly cheap. i also highly doubt that auction will ever sell -- i also would really like TBC on blue, btw. thanks for saving me a few bucks! I am also betting that auction won't sell. Not true. The promo copies were the first to be pressed and tended to have better sound than the regular copies after them because the stamper would get dirty after a while. They are usually worth a little more but not a ton.
Dillhole
I got a bunch of promo's. I don't see them being worth anymore than a regular version. I like to go for them when I see them in the used bins though. They tend to be less abused in most cases, and usually earlier pressings too. mrnubnub
Gold stamp promos are worth more, I read because they're usually better quality/rarer or whatever. Also I think some were sometimes made with better quality vinyl. Sticker promos are worth a little less, and if it has a cut/hole punch it's worth a lot less This is based on research I did when I acquired a ton of promos, and I may be wrong. somethingvinyl
We talk about this a lot: Actually, promo copies of older albums are considerable more collectible in many instances. The idea behind it being that they were the first records off the line, thus closer to the original pressing and sound better (sound deteriorates after multiple repressing from the same plates). For instance the difference between original pressings and promo pressings can be significant: Beach Boys - "Smiley Smile" Original mono pressing: http://www.popsike.com/the-beach-boys-lp-smiley-smileMONO/150594126659.html Beach Boys - "Smiley Smile" Promo: http://www.popsike.com/BEACH-BOYSSMILEY-SMILEORIG-1967-PROMO-MONO-LPMINT-/160453685037.html ... calpolyslo
This album was originally release on Apple records in 1973. This promo looks to be from the early 80s judging by the stamp so its not worth any more than a stock copy from that time period. If it had a different label you might have something, but Capitol often just put a hole in the cover or put these stamps on to designate a promo copy. BTW it was released on red vinyl in 1978 in the US.

jpearin
The shop I work at got a nice big collection in. Got both the Red and Blue collections in on colored vinyl, and an Australian Abbey Road on green and White album on White. Abbey sold for $69.99 if I remember correctly, and White for $39.99. We have one of those big, cool blue Beatles boxes in as well (all albums/whatnot)
mxv
I'd have loved to get the white album on white. and 40 bucks is what I would be willing to spend on it too. Dammit! I'm assuming you must work at Kiss the Sky since you are in Elgin?

somethingvinyl
When I was in college and actually started to listen to their albums wholly, I listened to the CDs like most people outside of the 70's. So I kind of hate the bastardized versions of the first five or six US pressings. I've been waiting to get the UK/Parlophone pressing but those are so much money. But what you're saying is irrelevant. The guy was asking about a very specific record. Other than it being a promo and on vinyl your post doesn't help at all. In fact it could likely mislead someone in to buying a record for an inflated price needlessly. Now go drive in circles for 500 miles.
