The Beatles - 1962-1966, promo stamp?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any info on this?

Its the 1962-1966 red album, but it's stamped as a promo, not for sale...

It's just like this one...

Shoot me a pm if you can give some info...

Thanks!

Someone can correct me, but 99% of the time promo stamps are equal or lesser value than non promo stamped. I am also betting that auction won't sell.

Not true. The promo copies were the first to be pressed and tended to have better sound than the regular copies after them because the stamper would get dirty after a while. They are usually worth a little more but not a ton.

Gold stamp promos are worth more, I read because they're usually better quality/rarer or whatever. Also I think some were sometimes made with better quality vinyl.

Sticker promos are worth a little less, and if it has a cut/hole punch it's worth a lot less

This is based on research I did when I acquired a ton of promos, and I may be wrong.

We talk about this a lot:

Actually, promo copies of older albums are considerable more collectible in many instances. The idea behind it being that they were the first records off the line, thus closer to the original pressing and sound better (sound deteriorates after multiple repressing from the same plates).

For instance the difference between original pressings and promo pressings can be significant:

If you have a promo copy of a significant or rare record, might be worth more cash than you thought.

This album was originally release on Apple records in 1973. This promo looks to be from the early 80s judging by the stamp so its not worth any more than a stock copy from that time period. If it had a different label you might have something, but Capitol often just put a hole in the cover or put these stamps on to designate a promo copy. BTW it was released on red vinyl in 1978 in the US.

Good to know. I've been collecting all my Beatles records on colored vinyl. Very expensive habit.

The shop I work at got a nice big collection in. Got both the Red and Blue collections in on colored vinyl, and an Australian Abbey Road on green and White album on White. Abbey sold for $69.99 if I remember correctly, and White for $39.99. We have one of those big, cool blue Beatles boxes in as well (all albums/whatnot)

When I was in college and actually started to listen to their albums wholly, I listened to the CDs like most people outside of the 70's. So I kind of hate the bastardized versions of the first five or six US pressings. I've been waiting to get the UK/Parlophone pressing but those are so much money.

That helps in a thread about 40-50 year old Beatles records

It is in reference to the posts about promos. Now go save your baby from a dingo.

But what you're saying is irrelevant. The guy was asking about a very specific record. Other than it being a promo and on vinyl your post doesn't help at all. In fact it could likely mislead someone in to buying a record for an inflated price needlessly.

Now go drive in circles for 500 miles.

I think you mean Indianapolis
