detroitsportsguy27
I am currently using a Audio Technica AT120 hooked up into a bose style iHome. Yeah I know, laugh all you want. I'm content with using the Audio Technica, thoughts on the receiver and speaker for this price? http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/ele/3752727326.html
thetruthaboutheaven21
sounds like the person is trying to get rid of it. it looks nice in the picture but ive never heard of the brand
ajxd
Looks like 80s BPC. You'd find this stuff at Goodwill for $20. But, it will be better than what you're using... considering it isn't Bose.
kannibal
Tough call. I'm sure it would sound better than your Bose iHome, but not sure how much better. $75 is just not a lot of money these days, so I'm hard pressed to say avoid. I wouldn't pull the trigger, I would want something better than that.
bearchuck
That guy should pay you $75 to take it off his hands.
xxmartinxx
Looks like mid 80's stuff. The woofers have foam surrounds, which tend to dry rot and/or rip easily, so you need to be careful when buying. I'd pass or offer him as close to nothing as possible. casinonightzone
How has that one guy never heard of Fisher or Kenwood?
ajxd
How have you not heard about XXXXX? I could fill in the blank here with anything for anyone. This is a record collecting based website, not a record playing website. Yes they should go hand in hand, but collecting records is a hip trend right now. Audio is not. bluedeni
It should be the other way around.
ajxd
Yes it should. But, records are cheap, high end audio is not. A lot of people will be more happy having 500 LPs than a nice pre/power amp combo.
bluedeni
I used to be that way but once you hear a nice setup it's over.
ajxd
Luckily this is the case on this forum. Once people get something nice, they understand. What's your setup?
bluedeni
I have 2. I use a Rega RP6 with the Rega Brio-R and RS1's. I changed the the sub-platter on it with the Groovetracer. My other setup is a Rega Planar 2 from the 90's before they changed to the P2 with a Marantz 1060 with the wood case and some Paradigm Atoms. I am saving for a 3rd system which will probably be a VPI scout with Parasound 2100 and 2125. Not sure on speakers. I used to have a Music Hall MMF 5 and a tricked out Rega P3-24. swemoll
ajxd
I can highly recommend the Parasound combo. Been using it for about 3 months now. So good.
bluedeni
That's what I heard. Saw some on Audiogon. Trying to convince the girlfriend to let me pull the trigger.
ajxd
You neglected to say what speakers you're using. And carts!
bluedeni
I use Rega RS1 speakers for my main setup and Rega Exact 2 and on my second system I use Paradigm Atoms v5's with a Denon DL110.
ajxd
Ah I did not know the RS1s were speakers. Don't follow Rega products too much.
bluedeni
Yeah they have a whole line of speakers. The RS1's are bookshelf speakers. I was shocked how good they sounded. Now i am branching out and trying something's besides Rega. Although I do really like the sound of it.
swemoll
I have Rega RS3 speakers and they're ridiculously fantastic for the price. I wish more people knew about them. Such a huge sound in such a slight speaker (that can be placed close to the wall). I love it.
swemoll
I use a Rega RP6 ... I changed the the sub-platter on it with the Groovetracer. I don't know much about/follow Groovetracer products much, but I thought that was only good for the RP1/3, and not 6?
bluedeni
He made one specifically for the RP6. I never liked the plastic hat idea. Now it's just one solid piece.
kannibal
What is the platter made of on a carbon?
ajxd
"300mm metal" is what Pro-Ject says.
kannibal
I hate the plastic Rega platter on the RP1. My opinion aside, that is another difference between the RP1 and the Carbon.
