skyhasclaws
Anyone know how to change the project debut iii record player needle? Or what kind of needle it takes? Thanks
bobfrombob
You should determine what cartridge you have. The Projects seem to use almost exclusively Ortofons. Is it red or blue?
slinch
If it's not a Carbon model, you most likely have the OM5e cart on it.
circuit bored records
If you still have the stock cart on the iii, then it is most likely the Ortofon OM5e as stated above. In looking around, I can only find aftermarket styli available on eBay, like this: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?sbk=1&nav=SEARCH&itemId=200960872919. Not sure how well it'll perform compared to the old one though Are you looking to replace it to upgrade or is your stylus actually worn down? The Ortofon 2M Red and Shure m97xe are great sub-$100 carts that will outperform the 5e, if that is indeed what you have.
slinch
Here's the original replacement stylus: http://www.needledoctor.com/Ortofon-5E-Stylus?sc=2&category=63 But in my opinion, it's better to add a couple of bucks and get the shure cart that yanquiuxo mentioned: http://www.amazon.com/Shure-M97xE-High-Performance-Magnetic-Cartridge/dp/B00006I5SB/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1381944899&sr=8-2&keywords=shure+cartridge The difference in quality is far bigger than the price difference would suggest. skyhasclaws
It's a red ortofon. Thanks guys
slinch
If it's a 2M Red, then you need this: http://www.needledoctor.com/Ortofon-2M-Red-Stylus?sc=2&category=
Tardcore
If it's a 2M Red, then you need this: http://www.needledoctor.com/Ortofon-2M-Red-Stylus?sc=2&category=63 If you're feeling lucky, this might do the job for $60. http://www.needledoctor.com/Ortofon-2M-Red-Stylus_2
ajxd
No lucky about it. Needledoctor stands by their open box.
kannibal
Or you could get a third party upgrade stylus for the OM10 or 20 or 30. supposedly there isnt much difference going from 5 to 10 but at level 20 or above it's worth doing. I think lpgear.com sells them.
