  1. smailtronic - PM'd me a little over a week ago about a record that I'd been seriously looking for for years and thought I'd never actually find. Quick to respond, super nice and had the record shipped out lightning fast (arrived within four days of shipping I believe) and also included a cd. Seriously top shelf dude. ashleythedude - gave me a great deal on a record, super nice and had it sent out lightning fast (also arrived within something like four days or so). Both sellers sent records in great condition as they'd described - definitely looking forward to buying more records from both in the future!
  2. I'm mad dumb for not seeing that. After shipping, I wouldn't think this thing would be any more than $32 right? A crazy good deal given how much these shits have gone for on eBay. Definitely worth the sleep loss!
  3. Usually never up until after noon - nevermind 8 AM (central time) - but I'm making an exception for this. Has the price been put up anywhere? Searched around and didn't find anything.
  4. Say Anything still available (opened it up - A/B on black with C/D on green). JEW on hold until tomorrow afternoon.
  5. Have Live In Madrid and the Short and Sweet 10" if yr interested in those.
  6. Came across a copy of High School Rock in the online inventory of a record store here in Chicago and when I called to reserve it, they had literally sold it an hour earlier. I've found myself hating that person ever since whoever they are (and if that person was a VCer who lived in Chicago in 2007 and got it from Reckless Records - do know that my hate is nothing personal).
  7. I blame it on Sonic Youth, but several years ago, I got into 20 century classical and avant garde. You know, the stuff with all the blips and bloops that sounds really pretentious and kind of stupid on the surface but is secretly really awesome and incredibly detailed - well anyway, that stuff was coming out in droves on labels like Nonesuch back in the 50's and 60's and I'm sure stores like these were carrying them by the truckload as those LP's were being released at budget prices. Nowadays alot of them cost a decent amount of money - it would have been rad to have been able to scoop some of those records up at the source (while making fun of those hanging in the vocal pops section of course).
  8. I totally agree with this - stupid example, but I came across a MOC account I forgot I had last night and completely deleted it. Wishing I could delete an Amazon.com account I had when I was 16 that has super embarrassing reviews. The internet as a keeper of all things can be sort of a fail.
  9. Another thread speaking on the ratio of male to female posters got me to thinking about examples of gender roles and the prevalent themes that go with them. Is anyone here into comics? If you are and in particular, have been paying attention to DC, they've been re-inventing themselves of late with a new continuity while re numbering all of their books at #1. Many of the characters (female especially) have been drastically re-invented as well with many reduced to one note parodies of who they were. An interesting article on the denigration of female characters in the new DCU: http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/09/22/starfire-catwoman-sex-superheroine/
  10. Another bump. Got a lead from another dude on a couple of LP's I've been searching for, so bringing this back up top one or two more times before letting off of this search for awhile.
  11. David Bowie: Images 1966-1967 2xLP. Was gonna drop $20 for this at Reckless but a guy on Discogs sold it to me with shipping for $14. Waiting on a ton of Tooth and Nail stuff - pretty stoked on it.
  12. That's mind blowing. What's crazier are the number of bids. Usually with auctions like this, there are always what, atleast a couple of dozen bids? Six bids total for this one - the folks who wanted this weren't playing around.
  13. I would have been and I almost replied about it but went looking to make sure I didn't have it (wasn't sure if they had ever done more than 1 7" and got stoked for a moment thinking there was another one besides the one I had). How was that Ghoti Hook reunion? At this point, I hate the Huntingtons but that's more because their guitarist is one of the hugest pricks I've ever seen - by the way, this counts as a Bump to offset me derailing the thread with talk that doesn't involve the purchasing of records!
  14. That might have to do more with the content of the records themselves. (just kidding - it hasn't grown on me just yet, mainly because I loved 'See Mystery Lights' and 'Your Magic's Real' so much.)
  15. Trying to move these Say Anything and JEW albums for the express purpose of getting that Mechanical Animals. I've been obsessing over wanting this record since seeing this thread.
  16. I love my 3G, but the phone bill every month is killing me - since I have an iPad now, I've been heavily considering dropping my service with AT&T when my contract ends in April. It's a decent service and I enjoy the iPhone, but it just isn't worth $2,500 a year for me (paying for two different phones).
  17. Diggin' this up after a few days of it laying dormant - we're two days out - does anyone know when the pre-order goes live?
  18. Less songs spread to each side = better sound. It's frivolous as it drives the cost up a bit but it doesn't bum me out too much. Public Image LTD's 'Metal Box' was a little under an hour but got spread across 3 LP's at 45 RPM. The results yielded far crisper bass and a huger sound than the 'Second Edition' version of the record that was spread over two records.
  19. Is it only stuff from Matador? Would be nice if In The Red did another batch of Jukebox Explosion. Only copies I'm finding are in Europe somewhere.
  20. JEW on hold until tomorrow night.
  21. One can hold out the hope that we'll all be surprised when a few of them are still sticking it out.
  22. I remember reading an article several months ago around the time of Record Store Day where the authors were including photos of places that have shuttered in recent years. Interspersed with photos of legit mom and pop operations were a healthy smattering of California based Towers and such. It certainly brings to mind the question of whether record stores as we know them will be in existence 20 years from now.
  23. http://flavorwire.com/213146/what-record-stores-looked-like-in-the-1960s Seriously cool looking places.
