  1. It sure is. But the 2m Red is very clearly a higher quality cartridge. At an almost 5 times higher price of course. To me, its worth it.
  2. A Carbon with 2M red wouid be best... Given that's not an option I'd go for the Carbon. Better arm, somewhat better motor (control unit). The OM10 is obviously a bit below the 2M red cartridge, but the difference isn't that great. And going forward it's much easier to switch the catridge some day than switching the whole turntable.
  3. PS: I know it can be rather annoying to have decisions being picked apart by total strangers, but to me $700 phono stage and $230 cartridge are somewhat "misbalanced". A good phono stage IS important, but if you have no plans of using MC cartridges the DS main feature (the super flexible on-the-fly MC loading) is kinda lost.
  4. Choosing between these two, I would definitely go with the VPI. The Rega tonearm has no VTA and no azimuth adjustment which is a pretty horrible idea to me. However I personally wouldn't take any of them, because having to change the pulley to change speeds is total no-go for me. You can buy an power upgrade for both, but that pushes the price up even further into an area where there are plenty of other options that already include these basic features. The Marantz or any other Clearaudio would be a good alternative. Other decent options include MusicHall or Funk Firm.
  5. Second and last bump, stuff will go to ebay if there's no interest here.
  6. I second that. The stylus is probably the least of your concern when a record skips. Maybe the record is simply fucked up beyond repair. Maybe you can try the record on someone elses player? Otherwise check out you turntable setup. Is the platter perfectly level? Is the tracking force set up correctly? Is the antiskating set up correctly? While you are checking, you can try to set the tracking force and anti-skating to the upper limits of the recommended range, this should help at least a bit against skipping. I used a SL1200-clone for years which had a really crappy tonearm. It skipped every single time during the first track of the "Throwdown -.You dont have to be...." LP, even after being set up professionally and having a really nice cartridge (Vinylmaster RED) installed by an audio dealer. In the end it was a total waste of time and money. I know that even the cheapest Pro-Ject players should be better than this, but I still think that a fancy stylus on a very-entry level player is kinda wasted. Better start saving up for a Rega now
  7. I'm finally getting around to sell off the duplicates from my collection. The big ticket item is the Jane on red/gold /150 from the Deathwish repress. The record is not red/gold at all but orange-ish with a few red streaks. But I guess if you're interested, you already know that. Other items for sale are: Converge - Jane Doe (Red) Converge - AWLWLB (Orange/black mix) Converge - AWLWLB (Green/black mix) Energy - Invasions of the mind (Blue) Have Heart - 10.17.09 (Solid blue) Have Heart - 10.17.09 (Red) Have Heart - 10.17.09 (White) Irons/Pulling Teeth split (PicLP) Most Precious Blood - Merciless (White) Im shipping from Europe so I would prefer buyers from Europe so keep it hassle-free, but I will ship worldwide. If you're interested in something, hit me up with an offer. Lowball offers and "How much do you want for..."-messages might go unanswered.
  8. Why do you think it hasn't? Since Kaiser closed shop there has been some effort by Rimtec and Kenan made several efforts to deliver improved vinyl formulations. I forgot the name, but this pressing plant in Ohio claims to have an sound-optimized 180g using a proprietary Rimtec formulation. On the other hand none of this seems to be of interest neither for producer nor buyers, so it seems that there is virtually no demand for higher quality vinyl.
  9. This HD vinyl claim sounds like complete bollocks. There are probably much more exact ways of cutting masters than the traditonal lathe cutting, but there is no reason to believe that something like laser cutting could be any cheaper. And storing significantly more information in the groove while retaining full backwards compability also sound very unlikely. This would require completely new manufacturing processes which (even if they existed) surely will not mean lower costs. To me the most important step to better quality vinyl would be new pressing machines with state of the art technology. But despite the rising demand for vinyl, no pressing factory really seems to be interested to invest several hundred grand in new machinery.
  10. Finally some news versions for my MPB collection! I hope there will be fun stuff like the body bag test presses from the first press. And btw, if anybody owns a NIV test press please let me know. Its the only item missing in my MPB collection.
  11. I'm not in for your imaginary group buy. I'll hunt down one copy myself. Ha!
  12. I paid $57,70. I discovered the existence of a deluxe version only after ordering the regular vinyl otherwise I probably could have save $10-15 on shipping.
  13. Most Precious Blood - Nothing in Vain test press I know there are 5 of them in existence, one went on ebay a couple of years ago pretty cheap, but I wasn't into test presses back then. I've tried to locate a copy for years, but nobody from the band I've asked has a copy and the label has long been defunct. I guess the remaining 4 copies are rotting in a basement somewhere because nobody gives a shit about them except for me.
  14. Any news on when or if the Oceanic remaster is gonna drop? Nov 4th has passed and I can't find any hint on the Ipecac or Isis website.
  15. I'm totally fine with keeping it available. But selling a "limited bundle" of a vinyl repress to vinyl-loving customers, where the vinyl itself is not limited at all? Call me snob or an asshole but I hate it. I would have prefered if they made 500 orange vinyl for the bundle and then kept selling black or yellow or whatever color afterwards. And I'm pretty sure that most labels would have handled it that way.
  16. I would hate if they simply kept selling orange vinyl long after the posters are gone.
  17. Now that I've ordered one, I kinda hope it remains limited to 500
  18. Because it looks cool. Same with picture discs. And to a lesser extent, with all colored vinyl. This thread has tempted me to buy the GID version, just to see how bad it really is.
  19. I have a spare copy for sale, which is in pretty good shape. I would be shipping from Germany however, so it will be expensive and might take forever. If you can live with that, I could send you a detailed description of the records condition and some pics on the weekend.
