I’m not telling you how to live your life, but if you have to sweat a surprise $30-$100 order that will impact your well-being for the next 1-14 days... realistically, it’s time for a different hobby.  With shipping costs on the rise and $30 LPs becoming the norm, sadly, it feels like vinyl has become a luxurious hobby more than ever.

I have considered this so many times in the past ~15 years but simply couldn’t stop. Living in Eastern Europe and having shipping costs almost all the time coming out more than the record itself just makes this whole thing harder. There were times when I had  literally 20 usd for food for a week after a pre order drop. But the euphoria by acquiring a personal favorite, a special version or a long sought after gem just fuels the machine.

  2. I decided to throw it in here instead of opening a separate topic for it. So our band Anchorless Bodies have finally been able to release the deluxe vinyl versions of our latest EP,  called "Álommal Szőtt Vászon". We are playing melodic hardcore in the veins of Defeater, It Prevails, Departures, More Than Life, etc., check out everything below if interested:

New Emery album up for PO.

Havn't been a fan of them since In Shallow Seas, one of my fave post-hardcore albums, but will check this out none the less, and wanted to provide PO link to those interested.

Same here, In Shallow Seas We Sail was the last I really enjoyed. Also, there is a special version for the new album, limited to 300 (having a USD40 price tag, with membership of Emeryland  whatever that means)

Wanted to post the EU link for the tri-color but it's sold out now on CoreTex.

Other Xibalba news: Knives Out Records from France will release "Hasta la Muerte" on deluxe double picture disc vinyl.

If you don't know Knives Out you have to check his site (yes, it's only one person who does everything).

These are all little pieces of art with an insane amount of detail put into the every single release.

After buying one release I had to collect all the others.

Releases from Knives Out so far included following bands: Excessive Force, Arkangel, Sheer Terror, Grimlock, Hoods, Integrity,...

Upcoming releases from: All Out War, Terror, Death by Stereo, Xibalba, From the Dying Sky, Sentence,...

His website is also being update and the store is down for the moment.

But here you can check things he did so far:

That’s so cool! I have the Gold edition reissue of Arkangel-Prayers Upon Deaf Ears but honestly lost track a bit after that. Any info about when will the store be open again?

Just looked at the line-up for Arctangent this year and super pumped that The Samuel Jackson Five are apart of the lineup so hoping that means new album time! (Also Totorro appear to be touring again so maybe new material there but wrong thread)

I just finally bought the Samuel Jackson Five boxset yesterday and now I see they are doing shows again, what a great match of happenings! Fingers crossed for a new album.

afaik Arctic Drones just succumbed to overload....  money, time, management, etc.  Was run by one dude really and it just got too much.  Right now, your best best for a blog is Heavy Blog's Post-rock Post or whatever they call it.  My buddy David writes for them.

This Soldat Hans album is fucking.... interesting.  It's achingly beautiful, and sounds kind of like Godspeed meets Isis haha.

EDIT - this Soldat Hans album is fucking amazing.  Holy shit.

For me this album was like hearing shels' Plains Of The Purple Buffalo for the first time, maybe due to trumpet usage and ethereal atmosphere. For sure it is coming from the doom side of the genre but still fascinating.

I dip my toe in the post-rock pool from time to time, though I tend toward prog rather than metal/doom/etc. This is the stuff I’ve listened to recently that’s impressed me:

Related question - are there blogs people here follow (or run) to hear new stuff/reviews in this genre? I like Echoes and Dust and Everything is Noise and The Prog Mind for prog, but I’d be interested to hear about more.

Soldat Hans is one of the greatest hidden gems nowadays I think, es taut is a perfect combination of post metal/dark jazz and Isis vocals. I begged the band for months to send me the super heavy deluxe concrete version of the LP and they finally did, so I am beyond happy now.

It's shaping up to be pretty cool, but they need to announce more current, relevant bands for me to be interested in the outrageous ticket prices. This shit is 10 minutes up the road from me and I still can't justify the price right now.

Funny,  I seriously consider to have a budget of $1400 for this one and planning my trip from Europe. This line up  would definitely worth the effort.
