  1. I haven't sent an update out in a couple of months. Quite frankly the label hit a really rough spot and it was incredibly taxing for me to maintain it recently, so I had to just go through a temporary shutdown period. In that time I didn't accept any mailorder and essentially stayed out of my warehouse space as much as possible so I could focus on other things and get life stuff back in order. If you've been waiting to pick up some records, or waited on an order to arrive, then I sincerely appreciate your patience. Things are now back in action and we're ready to get down to business, there's so much going on right now, get your reading pants on... GILEAD MEDIA ONLINE STORE IS BACK! AND SIMPLER! I've taken it upon myself to devolve the Gilead Media mailorder page back to a simple paypal shopping cart system. So the only login you need is when you checkout through paypal. In addition to this, all orders that ship within the USA will only be charged $3 for shipping regardless of order size. Neat, huh? Check it out - http://www.gileadmedia.net/store NEW GILEAD MEDIA RELEASES FOR ORDER/PREORDER Alongside debuting the devolved store, I've also opened up a couple new items for order, and a third will be debuting in the next week. The new items currently available for pre/order are... Arms Aloft "Comfort At Any Cost" CDEP - $4.75 I never thought I'd be writing a description for a punk record on Gilead Media but here we are, and I simply cannot praise this band enough. Arms Aloft offer passionate songs with incredible & intelligent lyrics in a style that goes above and beyond the confines of punk. These songs are the very definition of catchy, all the while maintaining a style that feels so close to your heart and honest in it's delivery. Some people will refer to them as pop punk, and that's fine. But it's in my belief that Arms Aloft has simply figured out how to channel the raw energy and excitement that has been missing from more melodic punk over the past few years and focus it into something familiar yet reinvigorated with the vitality it has needed. SHIPPING IMMEDIATELY Krallice "Dimensional Bleedthrough" Gatefold 2LP - 2LP $16.00/2LP+Pre-order Shirt $26.00 THIS IS A PRE-ORDER, ALL ORDERS SHOULD SHIP AROUND 4/16 Krallice return with a full-length record that is leaps and bounds beyond their self-titled debut. Everything is MORE here, more droning black metal riffage, more intense metal parts and a greater sense of composition. On Dimesional Bleedthrough you can really feel that the Krallice has found a groove where they are comfortable and focused. Some people say Krallice aren't trvly a black metal band, and that may very well be the case. Perhaps they've reached a point where they transcend the realms of what black metal has been, ascended to this new level where Dimensional Bleedthrough takes us. A level where it can be more progressive and more technical without limitations of some fuzzy indecipherable recording. Where other elements of metal can find themselves entwined in the cryptically crafted songs, creating something new and wonderful. If that's not your thing, that's fine. But that's where I'll gladly be. ALL ORDERS WILL SHIP WITH KRALLICE LOGO PATCH+METALLIC 1" BUTTON - YOU MAY ALSO CHOOSE TO ORDER THE 2LP WITH A GILEAD MEDIA EXCLUSIVE TSHIRT (IMAGE BELOW) PRINTED ON ANVIL RINGSPUN FASHION FIT TEES, THIS OPTION WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE UNTIL 4/6. And available for order next week... Get Rad "I Can Always Live" CD/Gatefold LP Prices TBA CD+GATEFOLD LP SHIP 3/30 NOT READY TO ORDER QUITE YET, BUT WITHIN A WEEK, STAY TUNED! You know, I've been a huge fanboy for everything Dave Rudnik (Bass - Get Rad, other stuff in Seven Days of Samsara, High on Crime, Kungfu Rick, and a ton of other righteous bands) since I started getting into hardcore. In addition, I was always a huge Since by Man fan (Kevin, vocals for Get Rad played guitar for SBM). So naturally when I first heard about Get Rad I was really excited to see what it was all about. I was never let down. Every release reveals more and more how much can be awesome and righteous in hardcore. Get Rad are about as good as it gets. When Dave proposed the idea of Gilead working with Hyperrealist to release the new Get Rad full length, I Can Always Live, how the hell could I possibly even say no to that. There was no decision to be made, quite frankly. It had to happen. Not only because of my aforementioned love for the band, but because I've come to find a great friend in Pat who runs Hyperrealist, and I've really just been looking for a good reason to work on a record with him. Just perfect. So, April 2010 we will present what I strongly feel is one of the best hardcore records I've heard in years. Get Rad capture an energy and excitement that I've come to think was lost in hardcore. I am elated to be involved in the process of releasing the record. "I Can Always Live" will be presented in CD and Gatefold LP format (with digital download). Get stoked, stay rad. ALL ORDERS SHIP WITH RANDOMLY COLORED GET RAD LOGO PATCH+METALLIC 1" BUTTON - YOU MAY ALSO CHOOSE TO ORDER THE CD OR LP WITH AN EXCLUSIVE PRE-ORDER ONLY TSHIRT (IMAGE BELOW) PRINTED ON ANVIL RINGSPUN FASHION FIT TEES, THIS OPTION WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE UNTIL 3/30. NEW DISTRO ITEMS AVAILABLE NOW! Check em out/buy online here: http://www.gileadmedia.net/store/distro.htm Ancient Sky "Ancient Sky" LP - $8.00 Released by Perpetual Motion Machine, from the label: This is the first official release for Brooklyn-based, Virginia-natives ANCIENT SKY. Consisting of two pairs of close childhood friends with intertwining musical pasts, the group features current and former members of DARKEST HOUR, CITY OF CATERPILLAR, MAJORITY RULE, GHASTLY CITY SLEEP, VERSE EN COMA and YOU ARE THE DRUM, though they tread very different waters with ANCIENT SKY. Largely influenced by classic psychedelic rock, the band isn't afraid to visit bizarre and far-out worlds with unique sounds and structures that walk the line between fierce and subtle, and occasionally flirt with epic-ness, making for an interesting mix of heavy, hypnotic rock with plenty of hooks and Americana influences. This 7-song collection of songs was laid to tape at Brooklyn's Seaside Lounge Studios in March 2009 with producer/engineer Mike Kutchman at the helm and was mastered by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering. http://www.gileadmedia.net/store/distro.htm The Catalyst "Swallow Your Teeth" LP - $9.00 Released by Perpetual Motion Machine, from the label: After seven long years, numerous mind-bending demos, eps, and splits, and a litany of tours criss-crossing the United States and Europe, Richmond, Virginia’s best kept secret THE CATALYST offer up their first full length album, Swallow Your Teeth, a noisy, mathy, spacey, heavy, feedback-soaked behemoth of sonic destruction. Still channeling a wide range of hardcore, punk, grunge, noise rock, and sludge influences and not afraid to show their love for NIRVANA, FUGAZI, SONIC YOUTH, THE JESUS LIZARD, BORN AGAINST and most of the AMPHETAMINE REPTILE back catalog, Swallow Your Teeth displays the band’s creative prowess and power fully matured and realized. Swallow Your Teeth was recorded and mixed in May 2009 by Steve Roche (Off Minor) and mastered by Carl Saff (Young Widows). Painter and friend Raymond Klecker, who did the artwork for the band’s Marianas Trench EP, created cover artwork for the album http://www.gileadmedia.net/store/distro.htm Get Rad "What the Fuck Happened to Common Sense" 12" - $9.00 Blue vinyl/one-sided 12". Released by Underground Communique records. From the label: A 9 song one sided LP/EP from Milwaukee/Minneapolis's Get Rad called "What the Fuck Happened to Common Sense" Recorded with Shane from Call Me Lightning at Howl Street Studios. The band brings what I believe as their best recorded material to date, a recording finally matching the power of seeing the band live... though Shane warned me that the upcoming second full LP on Hypperrealist/Gilead Media might be better than this...time will tell...well time and hearing the other songs. Originally 3 of these songs were going to go on the Sweet Cobra split 7" but that idea is sidelined right now until Sweet Cobra finishes writing new songs. That split will definitely still happen, just not yet...so we decided to combine the whole recording session into one EP instead and solve the problem of having songs for a split and a separate 7" but no split band and no one to release a separate 7". http://www.gileadmedia.net/store/distro.htm Kowloon Walled City "Gambling on the Richter Scale" LP+CD - $10.00 Released by Perpetual Motion Machine, from the label: On Gambling on the Richter Scale, their first full-length, San Francisco's Kowloon Walled City add a touch of finesse to the grinding pummel introduced on last year’s Turk Street EP, which drew comparisons to Neurosis, The Melvins and other low-end explorers, from the ‘90s AmRep roster to the current crop of sludgecore contenders. These eight new crushing tracks unleash a barrage of noisy, down-tuned hardcore and sludge. Limited to 500 copies http://www.gileadmedia.net/store/distro.htm Litany for the Whale "Dolores" 12" - $7.00 Released by Perpetual Motion Machine, from the label: On their debut EP, Dolores, this four-piece exploit a gruffer take on heavy music, surrounding it with wailing feedback, darkened ambiance, and harmonious melodies. The end result is a chaotic and complex mix of hardcore, punk and metal elements, soaked with devastating levels of distortion, bass, and layered vocals. Their 23+ minute, 7-song EP was recorded at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, CA by Eric Leavell, with mastering handled by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering in Chicago, IL. The record comes packaged in heavy, black and white jackets with beautiful artwork created by Chris Taylor (Pg99, Pygmy Lush) and a lyric sheet; all copies on colored vinyl. http://www.gileadmedia.net/store/distro.htm Thou "Peasant" Gatefold LP - $12.00 Released by Level Plane Records. Their second full length available as a gatefold LP with minimalist artwork. Super melodic sludge that I feel is a bit different from their more "Thou" sound. This is the last of these, won't be restocked! http://www.gileadmedia.net/store/distro.htm EXCELLENT TOUR DATES! Krallice and Thou both have some pretty awesome tour dates lined up, if you live in the area definitely make an attempt to check em out. Thou tour dates: http://noladiy.org/thoutour.html Krallice tour dates: http://www.myspace.com/krallice There's the goods for today, please get in touch if you find any bugs in the store, but I tested it out and everything should be working just dandy. Thanks to all for your support over the last 5 years. The ability to run Gilead Media as a one-man operation with occasional-time assistance from friends and family has been something incredible and I owe it all to the folks who have supported the label & bands. Again, I thank you! Talk to you soon. -Adam/Gilead [email protected]
  2. The last time I saw Get Rad was one of the first times I had the honor of actually catching an entire set. Up until that point it seemed like external circumstances always kept me from fully enjoying a Get Rad show. It was easily one of the best hardcore shows & performances I had ever seen. Do yourself a favor and check out the upcoming record release show for the Gilead Media/Hyperrealist release "I Can Always Live". It's sure to be a treat. Speaking of the new record, the CDs arrived today and look outstanding. We also just received word that the LPs will be finished and shipping in 2-3 weeks, so expect a preoder package w/exclusive t-shirt to be coming soooon! At any rate, this will be your first chance to get the LP, as any orders would ship AFTER this show & it won't be available in stores until April! Go to this show or regret it forever!
  3. Thanks! Glad you enjoy the photos. Loved your work in the Ghostbusters films.
  4. Also, a cute shot of all three buns from the front page of my store
  5. Thanks, guys! It's been a really fun release and the positive response from customers has been great. It seems like everyone involved (bands, fans, me) are totally amped on how the records turned out. I couldn't ask for anything more! Justin... I cannot wait to get those records! I think I can officially put that on my best of 2010 and 2009 lists!
  6. A SERIOUSLY ABSURDLY HUGE UPDATE REGARDING ALL THINGS GILEAD MEDIA I know I have been really bad about updating people on Gilead goings-on in the last month or so. I won't apologize, because that would be based on the assumption that people have noticed or cared, and I dare not tread that ground. Even though a large number of individuals have been overwhelmingly supportive throughout the life of the label thus far (individuals in which I extend copious amounts of gratitude) I still feel like Gilead is a very selfish venture and one that's run out of a desire for self-gratification more than anything else. I'm sure this is all solely in my head, but it's something I consider. But I do indeed digress, there has been so much happening around the label & life in general that it's been hard to keep up and get it all down on paper, not to mention into the timeless archives of the internet. Hopefully this blog update/forum post/email (depending on the medium by which I've managed to assault you) will get us caught up, somewhat. I know I will remember something I had forgotten the moment I get this posted/sent. I as going to abandon this Table of Contents type format, but there's so much to go over that I need it just to keep track I. THOU/LEECH SPLIT LP ARRIVAL & SHIPPING! II. DISTRO STUFFS: NEW ITEMS, RESTOCKS III. VARIOUS FUN PRESS - KRALLICE, THOU, GILEAD MEDIA Away we go... I. THOU/LEECH SPLIT LP ARRIVAL & SHIPPING! It took me a good week or so, but I finally got all of the Thou/Leech "We Pass Like Night, From Land to Land" Split LPs assembled, packed and shipped. If you order then your package should ship within a couple days. Trying to stay on top of it now that I'm caught up! Check out the photos below for some half-assed documentation of the process. Including a failed screen printing job (but fun photo lining up the screen!). I got word that the records would be shipping out about 1-2 weeks earlier than I had expected them to, so I really needed to get to work screen printing all the bonus goodies. That's 750 patches, 750 posters and 2000 obi strips (for the Tyrant CDs). So long life! I got all excited to print these Obi Strips for the Tyrant CDs on the ream of vellum paper I had stashed away in my desk for like 4 years, and then first two prints totally curled over due to the fact that the paper was much too lightweight. Life. Anyway, now they're being litho printed and should be done this week. All band copies and future Gilead copies will have the Obi Strip. At least I got this photo out of it all, although I wasted a good half-hour on set up and such. Jammed out this coffee and got to work. This is the only reason I got all the posters done. So a good four solid hours later, with a lot of help from my brother as my print stacker, we have all 800 posters printed. A few extra over run to cover for any crappy prints I may find. That entire Domtar box is full of posters in addition to the stock on top of it. The second photo is a close up of the black on black print from the first photo. Those posters were all in copies of the records that went to the bands, about 90 total. Except for the 1 copy I kept for myself. I ended up finishing all the screen printing just in time (except I still need to print about half the patches, but those are easy to insert later). The pallets in this photo include: Tyrant CD jackets - 1500 misprinted gatefolds, Tyrant CD jackets - 2000 corrected gatefolds, 750ish finished copies of "We Pass Like Night, From Land to Land" split LPs, and 250ish extra jackets. 1,276 lbs of freight. Luckily it was about 30 degrees this day, so I could load everything into the house without freezing. And finally, 1,276 lbs later. I think Cory from Halo of Flies called this my "artfully crafted" photo, but I can't recall. Now that we have all of the components it's finally time to start my favorite part: assembly! That's a lie, I kind of hate doing this. It's fun when friends come over and we make a food party out of it like we did with the Frodus 2LPs. Unfortunately, this time around everyone was busy. So it was just me, the records and Lord of the Rings bonus features for a couple days. Many near paper-cuts later. Thanks to my wife for folding a good chunk of the posters prior to assembly. Saved so much backache for me. After a day or so off from cramming records I'm back at it & ready to pack up all pre-orders. First and foremost I absolutely must give some attention to cute little fluffy friends. I'm not pulling on her ears, she just loves ear rubs. Bernardo Bun is a jealous little man. Quite late (early?) and the vast majority of the mailorder is all packed up. Sleep, print labels, post office in the morn! Of course as soon as I get there I find the Clone Vol II replacements have arrived at the PO Box, after I shipped a portion of the orders for people that were waiting on those. COOL. Anyway, that's about that. I hope you enjoyed the photo journey through the assembly and such. If nothing else I like making these so I can remember why it's always better to screen print this crap early and send it to the plant for assembly PRIOR to shipping... something I fail at everytime. II. DISTRO STUFFS: NEW ITEMS, RESTOCKS In addition to the Thou/Leech LPs available now I've had a large amount of "distro" items/trades that I've been neglecting to post in the store. Well, neglect no more! I posted all those jams today and they are as follows, in alphabetical order. Head on over to the Gilead Store to order up on these records and make space on my storage rack in the basement! - http://www.gileadmedia.net/store. I have links in almost all of the product page descriptions so you can hear the bands, too (+another cute picture of Maisy on her cottontail cottage)! VARIOUS FUN PRESS There's a few things I've stumbled across this week, just some small tidbits, but some of it is pretty fun. GILEAD IN GENERAL - My old friend Christopher runs a great tape label called Sacred Tapes. He also has a blog called Sacred Text. We've been through a lot together as friends and people and I'm honored we can still call each other friend after many years. I've known him longer than most people I talk to in life. Chris recently did a series of reviews on Thou releases, and said some pretty nice words about me in one of them. Check it out - http://sacred-texttt.blogspot.com/2010/01/thou-introspective-v3.html - I was one of a large number of music "industry" peoples approached by Reckless records to submit my 2009 top 10 for their "Friends of Reckless" year-end best of lists, fun times - http://www.reckless.com/news.php?newsid=289 KRALLICE - For those comic nerds out there, check out the newish book ANCHOR published by Boom Studios. In each issue the writer and artist offer up "suggested listening" titles, and this month (issue #4) artist Brian Churilla selected Dimensional Bleedthrough! http://www.brianchurilla.com/ - Really cool book! - Brooklynvegan.com posted this live review of a recent Krallice show - http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2010/01/krallice_crucif.html THOU - Decibel Magazine ran an "Up Front" feature last month on Thou with some words by vocalist Bryan Funck and Guitarist Andy Gibbs - http://decibelmagazine.com/Content.aspx?ncid=353106 - Metalsucks.net posted a small blurb on "Albums that will F**k your face off in 2010" and selected Thou's upcoming record, SUMMIT as just that album. - http://www.metalsucks.net/2010/01/19/albums-that-will-fuck-your-face-off-in-2010-thou-summit/ Holy crap, I can't believe I got through all of that. Only took me about an hour and a half to write it all up, too. Not bad! There's a million other things going on right now between Arms Aloft, Get Rad and Krallice releases, so I'll be sure to get in touch when there is some fun news to report on any/all of those. And do check out that Fell Voices LP, it's really quite good. Until next time, thanks for plowing through this! You're all little gems in my life. -Adam/Gilead http://www.gileadmedia.net
  7. Ha! That one was a bunch of mis-printed Tyrant CD jackets. So they were tired, I spose.
  8. Thou/Leech split LPs have arrived at Gilead Media HQ! Huge update coming this weekend with tons of new distro items from some GREAT labels, photos of me screen printing some Thou stuff, and other randomness. For now, salivate over these. Mailorder will begin shipping on Monday, 1/18.. I forgot to order 2lp mylar sleeves and need to assemble all these over the weekend. If you still have not ordered your copy, then you better get on it! http://www.gileadmedia.net/store As the truck pulls away, much to do! 1276 lbs later! Wonderful...
  9. There is a sale on steam right now, if we can get 4 people together to buy it then it will only be $25 a person. Let me know! [email protected]
  10. Dead Format did really well with the 7", sold many anyway. I'm going to be doing some press stuff for the CDEP, trying to get reviews from places that didn't cover the 7"... so hopefully more people pick up on it!
  11. Gilead Media news and notes THOU/LEECH PRE-ORDERS OPEN NOW! BUY - US Version http://gileadmedia.net/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_23&products_id=81 BUY - EU Version (if you live outside EU): http://gileadmedia.net/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_23&products_id=90 We're happy to announce that we're now taking orders for the Thou/Leech split LP! These will be pre-orders with an estimated ship date of 1/15/10. Not only will we be taking orders for the Gilead version, but also for the European version from Vendetta records!! Vendetta will also be holding orders for the Gilead version, so people in US can save money on the Euro version and vice versa!! Check out Vendetta if you live in Europe - http://www.vendettarecords.de/. Here is my blurb for the record: Wow, well, where do I begin with these two? When Bryan first came to me and asked if I wanted to release their cassette-only split with Leech as a cooperative LP release with Vendetta, how could I say no? I hadn't heard Leech yet, but Stefan from Vendetta is a great person running a great label and I will never turn down the opportunity to work with the friends I've made in Thou. Not to mention the fact that the 4 songs on their side of the split are easily some of the most incredible pieces of music I've ever heard. They're literally all over the place when it comes to style. Two incredibly heavy and melodic doom tracks sandwiched between an intro/outro pair of complete beauty, the latter of which composed and performed in part by the lovely Emily McWilliams. Female vocals? Piano? Yes... and it's amazing. Fast forward a couple months, at this point I've heard Leech and was blown away by their unreal mix of True Cascadian Grey Metal and unbelievable proggy song structure. I truly wish Leech were not so adamant about remaining obscure, because they're could seriously take the world of Black Metal by storm and turn it entirely on its ass. The day I received their audio master with their single, 20 minute long, untitled track, I was astonished. At first glance nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. Then, I notice it is sealed with a wax stamp. OK... cascadian metal dudes, I can give them the benefit of the doubt. I open the package to find their audio master, on cassette, with a letter that was typed on a typewriter using a photograph of a grey overcast sky as the type surface. I was immediately both amazed and amused. Truly Thou and Leech are an outstanding pairing for a split LP. We Pass Like Night From Land to Land comes packged in a heavy-duty gatefold jacket with a full hand screen-printed poster and also includes a download code for the entire split in mp3 format (there will never be a CD version!!). Limited to 750 copies on the US version, and 500 copies on the EU version released by Vendetta. All on white vinyl. ARMS ALOFT TO RELEASE "COMFORT AT ANY COST" CDEP WITH GILEAD IN 2010! Plans are underway for Arms Aloft to team up with Gilead Media to release their "Comfort At Any Cost" 7" (originally release by Dead Format) in the CD format in Feb/March! In addition to the tracks from that 7", the CDEP version will also include the two Arms Aloft songs from their upcoming split with The Fake Boys! (to be released by Dead Format/Kiss of Death). This may seem like an odd release for Gilead Media, and in some ways that may be true. Historically I have never really enjoyed punk rock that didn't lean more into the hardcore vein. But I have never let the limitations of genres restrict what I wanted to release. Arms Aloft really do strike me as something different and special in punk. The songs are amazingly well written and the lyrics deliver something I haven't felt in the punk scene in years. The band truly breathes new life into an entire style of punk that that I had given up hope on. The band is now gearing up for a 10-day Japanese tour in March. You can check out the dates and hear some of the tracks from "Comfort At Any Cost" on the Arms Aloft myspace, http://www.myspace.com/armsaloftforever! You can always check out some reviews from the 7" version here: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=234889929&blogId=511349497 That's all for this time around, just a real quick little email about two very exciting tidbits. In the next couple weeks I'll be stocking up these things in the "distro" (which I never intended to start but sort of started itself!) Algernon Cadwallader "Some Kind of Cadwallader" LP (Security Blanket) Algernon Cadwallader "Fun" 7" (Protagonist Records) Decibully "World Travels Fast" 2LP (Listening Party) Many thanks to all of you for supporting the label. It's really great to know there is still a community of individuals out there that care about independent art and are willing to support it in a time when the dollar is becoming a commodity that is harder to come buy. I have a love in my heart for all of you. -Adam/Gilead Media http://www.gileadmedia.net
  12. It's in production now, hoping to make available for order mid January, ship early feb... official retail street date probably March
  13. I talked to Dave from the band and I think we are going to do a shirt based on the art! I don't know if it will be white. But I don't think it will be black. I hate black shirts myself!
  14. That's a good idea! I have been talking about doing a pre-order package with a t-shirt with the band. Haven't had any ideas yet... might go this way.
  15. Dude, wait until you see the gatefold. All of the art was originally created as legitimate stencil/spraypaint art. It's really quite amazing when you see the back.
  16. Oh my god, this is hilarious. And congrats on the test presses, dude! That's really cool of the dudes at HH.
  17. Right on. Such a bummer on the Sweet Cobra front. I jammed "Forever" at the print shop today while cleaning screens in memory of him.
