Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one being all reminiscent about that show. It makes me feel all warm every time I think about it. When is the "What the Fuck Happened to Common Sense" LP going to be ready? I really want to have some in my store! I listened to it the ltd test press version as soon as I got home that night and really freaking loved it.

We're finally ready to start selling some Thou releases, some new, some sorta new, some made re-newed, and some I wish I could sellbut I can't just yet. But before we get down to that, I have some really freakin' exciting news to report... GET RAD TO RELEASE "I CAN ALWAYS LIVE" CD/LP WITH GILEAD MEDIA & HYPERREALIST! You know, I've been a huge fanboy for everything Dave Rudnik (Bass - Get Rad, other stuff in Seven Days of Samsara, High on Crime, Kungfu Rick, and a ton of other righteous bands) since I started getting into hardcore. In addition, I was always a huge Since by Man fan (Kevin, vocals for Get Rad played guitar for SBM). So naturally when I first heard about Get Rad I was really excited to see what it was all about. I was never let down. Every release reveals more and more how much can be awesome and righteous in hardcore. Get Rad are about as good as it gets. And this past weekend's Hunger Task Force benefit show in Milwaukee is as good as evidence as anyone could've asked for. It was easily the most fun I've had at a hardcore show in years, possibly ever. I can't even describe how great it felt to see 4 really talented local bands, a packed venue full of kids having fun, and all headlined by Get Rad. Anyway, I ramble. When Dave proposed the idea of Gilead working with Hyperrealist to release the new Get Rad full length, I Can Always Live, how the hell could I possibly even say no to that. There was no decision to be made, quite frankly. It had to happen. Not only because of my aforementioned love for the band, but because I've come to find a great friend in Pat who runs Hyperrealist, and I've really just been looking for a good reason to work on a record with him. Just perfect. So, in early 2010 we will present what I really strongly feel is one of the best hardcore records I've heard in years. Get Rad capture an energy and excitement that I've come to think was lost in hardcore. I am elated to be involved in the process of releasing the record. "I Can Always Live" will be presented in CD and Gatefold LP format. Get stoked, stay rad. KRALLICE "DIMENSIONAL BLEEDTHROUGH" 2XLP PROGRESS A couple days ago Nick (bass/vocals - Krallice) sent me this fun little photograph showing the progress they're making re-creating the original art for "Dimensional Bleedthrough" to fit the gatefold jacket. I'm really excited to see this all finished up and spread across the outside of a gatefold. I just thought it would be fun to pass along this photo for your viewing pleasure. As Nick agreed, it's cool for people to see the process. I have the audio master here, and everything should be ready to begin production over the next couple weeks. It really stands out among their material as a song that is quite straight forward & more rock oriented at times, while maintaining their droning sludge style. Curious combination. Salome are a great band from VA that deliver some truly dark and grim doom. Slow and sludging wins the race! Overall a great split, with packaging that just knocked my socks off when I opened the box from Vendetta Records. Vocal tracks are not too far out front, so they ad a layer to music without overpowering it. Sort of like Rosetta if they were a LOT more diverse, both musically and vocally. Not to mention the fact that the 4 songs on their side of the split are easily some of the most incredible pieces of music I've ever heard. They're literally all over the place when it comes to style. Two incredibly heavy and melodic doom tracks sandwiched between an intro/outro pair of complete beauty, the latter of which composed and performed in part by the lovely Emily McWilliams. Female vocals? Piano? Yes... and it's amazing. Now let's fast forward a couple months. At this point I've heard Leech and was blown away by their unreal mix of True Cascadian Grey Metal and unbelievable proggy song structure. I truly wish Leech were not so adamant about remaining obscure, because they're could seriously take the world of Black Metal by storm and turn it entirely on its ass. The day I received their audio master with their single, twenty minute long untitled track, I was astonished. At first glance nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. Then, I notice it is sealed with a wax stamp. OK... cascadian metal dudes, I can give them the benefit of the doubt. I open the package to find their audio master, on cassette, with a letter that was typed on a typewriter using a photograph of a grey overcast sky as the type surface. I was immediately both amazed and amused. Truly Thou and Leech are an outstanding pairing for a split LP. We Pass Like Night From Land to Land comes packged in a heavy-duty gatefold jacket with a full hand screen-printed poster and also includes a download code for the entire split in mp3 format (there will never be a CD version). This release is limited to 750 copies on the US version, and 500 copies on the EU version released by Vendetta. All on white vinyl. So I held on to the 500 misprinted copies just in case they may come in handy for a repress. Of course, they did. We blew through the first 500 on chipboard jackets in just a couple months and subsequently repressed this 12" on white vinyl, 300 pieces. That leaves these final 200 jackets, and this time around we're going with BLACK vinyl, and I sure am glad we did, because they ended up coming through REALLY heavy, I'd say around 170 gram vinyl, it rules. The package still includes all posters, inserts and "Human Annihilation" patch. This will never be repressed, once these 200 black copies are gone "Retaliation" is gone for good! And when most people get in touch I tell them that I don't have time or space to run a distro, which is 100% the truth. I work too much, and don't have a lot of time to do a distro properly, so I don't really do it at all. But in some cases, I have to make a rare exception. Halo of Flies is one of those cases. Maybe it's because Cory lives in Wisconsin, maybe it's because he sings for Protestant, or maybe it's because he is a legitimately good guy. But I love having his records around! PROTESTANT - ANTAGONIST 7" Protestant are an outstanding band from the Milwaukee featuring some area scene veterans who are currently writing some of the most intense, pissed off and outstanding hardcore. Anyone who is a fan of hardcore withOUT the chugga will do well to check these guys out and buy everything they have available, including their full length "The Hate, The Hollow." This 7" features screen printed covers and an 8 page booklet. Review from MRR "They keep getting better. Last year's The Hate. The Hollow. LP was pretty bad-ass, but these three tracks should place PROTESTANT amongst the best melodic crust bands going today. Black September, Chicago, IL, offer “Under The Rising,” a diverse 6 minutes of death metal/thrash with touches of dooming riffage. THOU, Baton Rouge, LA, unveil one of their most politically charged and crushingly heavy sludge tunes thus far, “Smoke Pigs.” Complete with the sample excluded from the first pressing. The first time I heard the split I was blown away by the vitality and passion put into both songs. “Smoke Pigs” and “Under the Rising” really compliment each other despite the fact that they're sonically very different.
