  1. yeah, jay ryan's actually my favorite too. unfortunately, i'm jeff.
  2. i know this probably isn't a very good first post, but i'd be willing to pay if someone could pick up shake the sheets and tyranny for me. i had to miss the chicago show because of a visit from my family. thanks.
  3. yeah, there are some videos on youtube of a show that they played in april. josh is back and they kept the new guitar player too. whoever is going to this show should give a report on it's awesomeness. i've been listening to the velvet teen pretty much nonstop for the past 2 weeks. also, any word on the chicago ghost show? i'm assuming it'll be at reggie's, but i just want some sort of confirmation.
  4. i got to this show super early because the riv sucks, so i figured i might as well be close since it sounds like shit everywhere in the building. i was surrounded by hold steady superfans, who are actually kind of annoying too, but i had a great time anyway. i did notice a lot of douchebags as i was walking out, though. craig finn is the ultimate nerd turned rockstar and one of the best frontmen in music. i wasn't overly impressed by the truckers, but i think that's more because i'm not all that familiar with their music. they did play carl perkin's cadillac, though, and i love that song.
  5. i'm actually in the middle of this book right now, i think i'm going to wait until i finish it before getting the album. i know this is supposed to be mccarthy's best, but i've only read the later books (the road and no country) and so far, i think i like them better.
  6. is there anyway this could be reuploaded? the link doesn't seem to work anymore.
  7. alkaline trio are on tour then, so it won't be any of them. it would be very cool if it was brendan.
  8. i know there are some chicago people on this board, so, i thought this might be a good place to ask. i just bought my ticket and the lineup is chuck, ben, tim, sundowner, and special guest. any ideas on who the special guest is? i know against me is in town the same night, so maybe tom gabel? any ideas?
  9. i'm watching the engine down dvd. so good. this band was such a force live. the show in chicago on the farewell tour is still the best show i've ever been to. the documentary is a very good watch too. if you had any interest at all in this band, i suggest picking this up.
  10. i received mine today. thanks alex from minnesota! the packaging is very cool. way better than mine. there's also a lot of stuff on there that i haven't heard, so i'm excited to listen to it. thanks again!
  11. Not to be a total dick or anything, but isn't it "The Old Timer's 2x4", not "The Old-Timer is 2x4"?
  12. i don't have any extras, but you could just wait and see them the next night at belmont arts and music.
  13. i've never actually watched singles, but the soundtrack is awesome.
  14. i don't post here very often, but i just made a pretty badass mix and would love to get in on this if possible.
  15. i was hoping they were going to play here because of the 2 reasons you mentioned. brian is the songwriter that i've always identified with the most since the wunder years. and then of course i move to the chicago area about two months after he moves away. not awesome. thanks for the quick reply.
  16. any word on if chicago is going to be on the fall tour?
  17. i have a copy of the original castaway release and the asian man release. they are both in jewel cases with regular artwork, which is pretty much the same as what you have except in color. the colors on the asian man release are brighter than the castaway one. the castaway version went oop really quick and i think the label didn't have any money and went under. asian man rereleased it, so i imagine what you have is either a promo copy or they probably just printed some up like that for the band to have on tour before the represses came out. i remember having the first two full-lengths and hearing about the new split, so i got on napster or audiogalaxy and found nebraska and wondered if it was the same band because the sound was quite a bit different than the first two albums. i saw them at a show a little while later and asked about the split and their merch dude told me about castaway going under, so they didn't have copies anymore. they didn't have those photocopied versions at the time. i'm really not sure why i had to make this this long. sorry for the essay.
  18. i've got an mp3 of them covering this song live. it was on a compilation of covers from the 2006 tour that someone put up on oink. i'm not sure if file sharing is allowed on this board and i'm not sure how exactly to do that, but if it is allowed and someone wants it, let me know and how to do it.
  19. both shows were amazing, but i think friday's was better just because we got just don't say you lost it, which is the song that made me fall in love with the band to begin with. i still can't put into words how i felt at those shows.
  20. i just bought one of these on ebay for 6.99. the seller has 1 left if you're interested.
  21. sorry man, i ordered it with the texas is the reason lp. do you know if any of his other stuff is on vinyl. it seems like it wasn't from the matador site, but i did read that the new album will be a 2xlp with the fourth side etched.
  22. I just emailed insound to find out if they will be carrying the retail version of this. i'll post here if they reply.
