High On Fire cancelled their show here in Richmond on Saturday. Second one they've cancelled here in 3 months. Keep your toes clean, kids.

I want to somehow tell Matt Pike that fasting will cure his diabetes. How can I ?:o

They're coming around these parts in April with Sleep, Big Toe willing.

Also, adding to the controversy - lo and behold - a Third Man records 4LP live exclusive. If I understood correctly - that's 60$ to pre-order a 4LP live Sleep album?

  2. Went to see the guy live when he came through and it was almost a joke. He played for like 30 minutes while constantly having song requests from the crowd, the majority of which he admitted to either  not being capable of playing or attempted to but failed to remember lyrics. Then at some point he prompted anyone to come onstage to play a song, while he went behind stage, then shouted obscenities toward this one dude who came up but couldn't figure it out and finally messed his whole tuning up. Upon returning whiskied and blazed out, he returned to play some stuff on the piano but after one track was unable to perform and just called it a night.

In some ways I understand it all ties into his image and he didn't fail to put on a 'show' but one would expect the artist to actually perform, instead of half-assing most of the set.

*Edit. Shit. I was in a similarly tired state as the dude described above and was for certain this was a King Dude release. Nevermind haha

  3. I'm thinking it's probably an EP from Elder.

So, how did you lot deal with Black Friday? I think I haven't spent money on vinyl in like 6 months, which would've been unheard of for me a year ago but it's feeling oddly okay. Totally boycotted the consumption holiday. A part of me is still hoping that Relapse will hold a Cyber Monday sale as well though.

It's not completely by choice though  coincides with the fact that I have to go for a root canal treatment for the same damn tooth a second time. Anyone happen to have experience with that? One camp seems to hold that it would be better to just extract the whole thing instead of fighting a losing battle with re-occuring infections.

I thought something sounded a little "off" on the new record and a new drummer explains it. I still enjoy it, but yeah, I'm with you on a lot of what you said.

That said, allegedly vinyl pre-orders for the new(est) Spaceslug album go up today. Still pretty excited about those guys even though I preferred the last two full lengths to this one.

    Completely with you on this.

Tbh, they lost me on Revengeance pretty much but Existential Void Guardian really takes the cake. Also got way too fast for my liking. Looking back now I'm finding it difficult to listen to their earlier stuff as well and am actually amidst selling stuff I own of theirs. Saw them live just a week ago and I definitely still rememberwhy I got into them, which was just mainly the brutality and upfrontness of their tone but sadly none of it is just doing it for me anymore.

On a brighter note - Holy Grove are coming out with their sophomore and damn that thing is going to be rippin'. Closer track (2nd one) features Mike Scheidt as well. Also was lucky enough to just see Yob for the first time a week ago as well.

It was stupidly expensive, so you can find solace in that.

Just my sentiment. That flag would've been awesome but then again, Relapse is really milking this indeed, also glad to have the /300. Hopefully it will both look and sound amazing.

Here's something for all you US folk though, chance to win some goodies

I haven't really come across any recent stoner doom that has blown me away. I'm finding more black metal that blends and twists new sounds. I would like to be wowed again, but I think a doom  band needs to figure out a way to somehow take it to another level.

I think CHRCH is definitely giving it their all in that regard. Their new album on Neurot blows most all melodic doom out of the water. Fister's newest is bound to be great as well.
