  3. It sounds like we need more variants and more reissues of the new cool hip thing, TAPES!

    Basically!

I've limited a lot of my new purchases on vinyl because of the escalating prices. I understand the limited availability compared to the CD format plays a role, but in the example of the upcoming Coldplay album next month, a $17 difference between CD and record isn't justifiable to my bank account. I'm not a Coldplay fan, but that's the most recent example I've seen. I've also made a note to look up how the album was recorded and, if it's a remaster, what the source material is. I enjoy records for more than just the sound, but the music is always priority and when most new releases come with a digital download I'll typically go for the cheapest option.

  4. It would be  maybe cool if it was in a box set and had extras and was around $40 for all of them and a box. But $12 each nope.

Plus three variants each. Twelve total variants for four albums that are readily available on multiple formats for reasonable prices. I'm not one to judge anyone for how they spend their money, but business practices like this will likely drive a lot of people away from collecting, and likely spell a quicker demise in this particular trend.

  5. I would imagine they would be eventually...

Pretty cool, each band with their name on the other's cover.  Still don't have Ascension, probably grab one at the concert.  Pretty excited these two bands are touring together.  I drove from the midwest to Los Angeles just to see them play together (with Bayside) March of 2012 at the Musink Festival.

Are these available on tour, or only as part of the VIP package?

  6. Thanks folks. Looks like I have some exploring to do!! I wish there were a store I could go to in person that stocked all the options- it's so frustrating ordering online haha

Thanks for the extra link Blaine, I actually saw that topic a while ago and stupidly didn't act on the info!

I do find it kinda surprising that they haven't started putting picture discs in some other type of sleeve for release.

You bet, glad I could help.

I think picture discs are packaged in PVC sleeves because they are more rigid than a poly or mylar sleeve, and it allows the artwork to be displayed when on a store shelf. Picture discs are typically considered novelty records, too, often bought for collection purposes rather than with the intent to play them.
