  1. I know this may sound shitty of me but it is true, toughen the fuck up (mental toughness not Madball toughness). I only say this as a person who lost an eye, developed a rare disease which left me blind for a few weeks (tons of steriods made me better, and that is an issue on to itself), had over 100,000 dollars in medical bills, almost lost my house and everything due to those medical bills (not being able to work does not help either) and the stress it caused my wife we think lead her to lose our first child. You have to develop the mindset that all the bullshit going in my head I can conquer, that all this is not going to bring me down. When you fucking play video games I am sure you do not give up everytime a tough level beats you, I am sure you learned to push through it, use some of that discipline on yourself. All the bad shit that happened to me I saw a big fucking challenge, a war of is it going to beat me or am I going to beat it. All the other advice people gave you is great advice, but if you can not find it in yourself to want to do something it will only get worse. You can fix this, you write about all your problems like they are the end of world, look as then as struggle to a new beginning, the worst time in my life lead to the amazing place I am personally at today. So drop this I dont know what to fucking do bullshit and conquer these issues you are having. It is like the college professor who developed terminal cancer, he said he could either lie in bed and wait to die or fight the good fight while he still has life left in him. When I lost my eye my dad gave me a hug the first day, held me and told me to let it all out. Day two he told me I will never be the same person I once was and to start taking the steps to my new better life and grow from this experience. Sorry if I am harsh with my words but sometimes people just need a kick in ass and be told stop bitching about this and fucking fix. Sitting on this message board will not fix it either, try living without you computer, video games, records or TV and it may force you to move on.
  2. Hearing the new Alkaline Trio album, seeing the bad video and then having my 16 year old cousin tell me about them on the hills made me think about as one gets older where does one make the distinction between blatantly selling out and then doing what is best for one's family. Being an old man (over 30) and having a child with the desire of wanting three more, my first thought is when seeing the video was this band has gone to far and then more I thought about it, I may do the same thing if an opportunity arises. It made me think that right now I would do anything to give my daughter everything and give her every opportunity in this world. To those who have kids is taking things to a level you may not have intended to go (not taking it as far as going on tour with Miley Cyrus) worth it to put your family in the best situation possible. I lived in a REAL gang infested area and did whatever it took to get my daughter in a safe area with great schools, so can one blame a band for making trendy music in hopes of creating a great situation for their family. Its a tough question.
  3. If there is a history of depression in you family or if you really feel like you are suffering from real depression, truthfully go and see a professional. Just googl it to see if you are suffering from a mutitude of the symptoms, for example http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/depression/DS00175/DSECTION=symptoms Before you go and drugging yoursefl up take a look at your life and maybe change a few things that may be making you unhappy, like being overweight leading to being more lethargic or just living in an envoronment that makes you unhappy or is emotionally oppressive. I work with a lot of people who do not even realize they are in an emotionaly abusvie relationship or did not even realize that joining a flag football league instead of playin madden all day can do wonders for their mental well being. Learn to appreciate, embrace and love life for all it is worth and lving this way may help you feel better. Good luck with everything and I hope you find you path. One last thing, live life for your happiness, I was a sales rep for years and not even realizing doing a job I hate and making great money was not worth my unhappiness.
  4. I work with criminals, juvenile ones and I live in the Lehigh Valley. There is the area in Southside Bethlehem called Five Points (gangs, that kind of fun stuff) and then a little up the hill the college Lehigh. Anyway some of the kids I with work watch certain houses and wait for the people to go out drinking and then constantly rob them. I think your house is being watched so get out. Someone knows you guys have things worth pawning or selling and are most likely sitting and waiting for the right time. Move man before someone comes home and one of the people are there and then all hell can break loose. One last piece of advice, do not buy a gun, I know to many people who will try to rob you for that.
  5. I know Double Decker Records in Allentown, PA has I think 3,4,5 and 6. There were four of them there averaging anywhere between 30-50 dollars a piece (one of them had a colored sticker on it). I know this sounds shitty sayin they are there and not offering to pick them up but I cannot say I will make it back there anytime soon and I read this to late. Just thought I would throw it out there in case you know anyone who can run out there or even call to see if the owner will make some kind of arrangments 610-439-3600. Good luck and they are great records.
  6. Last piece of advice, look into the foreclosure laws, when I bought mine, I did not have the option of getting an inspection. I was confident in being able to get anything done, but my buddy did not have an inspection either and when we went to redo his roof, everything was rotting on down to the joices??. SO beware of this.
  7. Yes I have some experience doing this with a buddy of mine. We found a foreclosure pretty cheap and made some good money off of it. Here is the deal though we put in new windows, updated the kitchen and bathroom (a lot of plumbing involved), built a nice deck, repainted the whole house and did a lot landscaping. If you have time and the skill set to do this sort of thing, you can make out pretty decently. Another friend of mine bought a foreclosure and paid someone to do a lot of the work and really did not come out to far ahead. How I found out about the house, I have a friend who works real estate and he filled me in on this house and he got me in contact with the company who technically owned it. My advice just be careful and think things through and start off small. If you are not the type who likes manual labor or does not have a lot of money to throw around then buy a townhouse or something. of that nature. With used houses something always comes up.
  8. Number one worst injury, lost my left eye and had half my eyebrow torn off in an accident. Number two is a tie, broke my radius and ulna (forarm) and broke my tibia (rugby player). Number three I was cutting down a tree for my father and fell out of the tree getting a concussion, broke three ribs and destroyed my collar bone (refused surgery so it is still bent) with an AC fracture of the shoulder. I wish I still had the tape but I tore open my arm in a rugby game (about 2-3 inches) and my coach needed me back in the game so we glued my arm shut. My list goes on and on but those were the worst. This should go in the most manly thred. walked on the tibia for a month before I could take off work and the only time ever took any pain meds was for two days due to the broken ribs (sucks not being able to sleep).
  9. I deeply respect the community you guys have in trading with one another and I do apologize for putting eveything already on ebay, but I do know I put up a few records some people want so I figured I would post this. It is time for a new chapter in my life and time to get rid of a lot of my vinyl. I never listen to these records and I want some of them to have a home where someone appreciates them. This is not a cash in on Ebay either, it is just easier for me to keep everything there and if I work 70 hours next week my wife can help out. I will admit when I first got into vinyl I did a very poor job of shipping something, but since then I have 100% Feedback and I do a lot of BIN deals, 13 already gone though. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZschoeneberger2007
  10. Just to make my point The Weakerthans Reconstruction Site Still Sealed 66 plus 15 in shipping to someone in Europe.
  11. I am unloading a ton of my shit due to my family expanding, my lifestyle changing and I see it as pointless to have 500 records gathering dust when someone else can appreciate them. Ebay just makes it easy to get rid of it all. Anyway, selling a lot of my stuff I get a ton of bids from people in Europe and it makes sense for a lot of them. A guy bought something from me for $84 with shipping and in reality what did it cost him less than $40. From my perspective this also drives up my prices. Ebay sucks but for someone on time restraints and just busy doing other things it makes the most sense.
  12. I have never done it but you don't ever want to do that shit, mostly because that is what it is SHIT. Real ecstacy is MDMA which is something you most likely will never get, but what you will get is street made ecstasy which may have some speed, PCP, maybe a little heroine mixed with whoever knows what. I have only ever smoke weed (about 10 years ago) and I would never trust any other drugs, you have no idea what the coke you may want to do is cut with and how many times (calcium oxide, baby laxatives, ammonia in the process of making it, I've seem dumb asses use baking soda, ether), if you get some dust the odds are you are getting something like tea leaves dipped in embalming fluid. I am not advocating this but unless you know the right people in the drug selling game and a lot say they do but do not you will truly have no idea what you are getting and then putting in your body. Hell even some guys who I knew who sold weed snowcapped their weed with coke trying to represent some high quality weed to charge ridiculous prices. SAVE YOUR BRAIN and do something productive instead of destructive.
  13. Here is my question for people. Like in the last election how do you pick the worst of two evils. I think Oakland made a very good point. There is going to be a decent percentage of people who just will not vote for Obama just due to his color. Not to label people from certain areas but I have family in Alabama, Kentucky and even in suburban PA and they all agree they will never vote for Obama, just due to his race. People are just ignorant like that. But how does one decide, like in 04 and 00, I know a lot of people who supported Nader but voted for Kerry/Gore due to picking the lesser evil and not wanting to take votes away from either of them and make it easier for Bush. Most major party politicians suck, I vote Green or 3rd party, but I will be real with our unbalanced system, 3rd party has no chance in hell of winning, so do you vote Obama and know you are already going to lose a certain percentage of the vote or do you go with a lesser evil just so the Republicans do not win. SO do you vote with your heart and know it will be a much more difficult road or do you go the easier road to keeping Republicans from running the show some more (Clinton may be a woman but like mikestswidowspeak said she has the history and what I call the structural support behind her). Isn't sad in this country we have to look at things this way.
  14. Not to bash Kennedy, but didn't he lead us into one of the worst wars in American history. Aside from that I do not trust anyone who takeslarge campaign contributions, especially from large corporations Yes, the democratic party may give the american people a few scraps and do a few minor things for them but if they take large contributions then they are not for or by the people. I hate all politicians equally, at least Republicans tell the average american they are going to rape them, Democrats pretend they want to help but rape you in the end, Bill Clinton and NAFTA. The Democrats in Congress did vote for the war in Iraq didn't they, (I know very few didn't), but they now say they were given faulty information, anyone with a brain new it was faulty info from day one.
  15. I live a few minutes away and it is a great store. When he gets in some of the harder to get records (I bought Coheed and Cambria: Secrets on Orange & White) he sells them for a very reasonable price. I grew up in the hardcore punk scene and till this day that store was part of the scene. Growing older it is great to see he never gave up on it and keeps the store open. Also, the owner also put out records on his label Doppleganger? and check out another Lehigh Valley great band Pearls and Brass (he put out their first CD). They are no longer together but they went on to Pissed Jeans and Randle of Nazareth, check them all out.
  16. I think the point is to make everyone happy and make sure everyone has a good time. When I was completely shitfaced I think it would have been cool to do a whole sing along to HWM's Rooftops but it was cool enough to have my whole drunken wedding party, parents and so forth screaming along to Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer.
  17. Remember this day is about you wife and the point is to appease everyone. Anyway, there is nothing like getting shitfaced and singing Living in a Prayer with you wedding party.
  18. I love true old school hardcore. there are very very few new bands who do it for me anymore. I am an old man who caught the tail end of late 80's hardcore (think Bold, Youth of Today, Warzone, Side By Side) and it isn't even those bands (love em) but the bands that followed in the 90's like In My Eyes, Ten Yard Fight, Battery, Strife that I just can't get away from and it makes it very hard to get into new hardcore bands.
  19. Here is my two cents, believing in some kind of faith, spirituality or whatever is you want to call it is not the same as believing in something some fallible men wrote in some book. But I do look at things this way, what does Jesus (whether you believe in him or not) have in common with bands like Minor Threat, Trial, Battery or Ignite. They all want to make this world a better place for all mankind. My point is those who truly follow Jesus's teaching, by wanting to change the world for the better should be applauded and not brought down by others who feel just because they take communion and live a materialistic, self centered, inconsiderate, immoral lifestyle. So think about this when you want to put down religion, I know someone who has been to Darfur, Somalia, The Middle East because he is a Christian and want to help his fellow brothers, not to just give them communion. I just hate it because I get the message and people just fuck it up by applying their or their interpretation. Sorry for my babbling.
  20. If you have never had surgery something to think about and I have heard the same for others is getting anesthesia that knocks you out can bind up your system for a few days. I unfortunately have been under the knife about 7 or 8 times and it happened each time. When my system finally begins to flow again it is not pretty.
  21. One of my best friends works for a company like GNC but a little more hardcore and I recently broke my tibia platauo? with grade 2 sprains on my PCL, ACL, so I went to him to get some legal help (mostly protien) for my one leg which is not half the size of the other (my life revolves around sports). We started to talk about this report and he was telling me you can't imagine how many high school, college, pro athletes do steriods in one form or another. He put it me this way, certain steriods are a mixutre of shit (A+ B+C). He told me he could cycle me on A then B then C all legally and it would take a longer but I could get some similar effects. Of course I said no, but he made it clear how many people may not technically be on steriods but what they do is the same thing.
  22. If you enjoy your spritual side read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho or for a little humor mixed in read Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore (another good book by him is The Stupidest Angel). The book No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy is also pretty good. For the epic fantasy/historical fiction reader try Winterbirth by Brian Ruckly or Genghis: Birth of An Empire by Conn Iggulden or The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. For you more serious side read the two books by Khaled Hasseini (The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns) I actually collect/read more books then I actually do records.
  23. I would be more then willing to put forth 100 dollars to see some bands get back together and play a few shows. I know it will never happen but one can always dream. Minor Threat Ramones (I no it is not possible these days, but I saw them about 15 years ago and it was a great experience) At the Drive In (also saw them once before and I would love to do it again) Dead Kennedys with Jello Black Flag with Henry Operation Ivy Biohazard- (only if they would do like AK3 did for Goddammit, but with them Urban Discipline, I did go to a show during this era in NYC, fucking insane, sidebar, when I went to this show House of Pain was headlining and some cheesy band opened that me and my friends were like who the hell is this: KORN)
  24. Queens of the Stone Age- What happened Dillinger Escpape Plan- when I want heavy I constant heavy, no breaks Foo Fighters Jimmy Eat World In general a lot of the major or bigger label hyped records I bought were disappointments, smaller labels I feel put out overall better music, Gaslight Anthem, Drag the River or William Whitmore
