http://shop.temporaryresidence.com/trr264 Available on black and limited orange w/ deep purple splatter /200. "You're Doomed. Be Nice. is Rob Crow's first album since his heavily- publicized withdrawal from music – specifically the toxic byproducts of the lifestyle of a touring professional musician attempting to survive in an industry of diminishing returns. Rather than perform, record, and mix every note himself – a trademark of his previous solo endeavors – Crow formed Gloomy Place, a band made up of close friends that includes another member of the beloved Heavy Vegetable. Recorded and mixed by Ben Moore (Hot Snakes), You're Doomed presents a fascinating dichotomy: dynamic, eclectic prog-pop backing alarmingly confessional, often acerbic lyrical themes. This juxtaposition makes for an album of confrontational yet accessible songs filled with wry wit and emotional depth. You're Doomed. Be Nice. is the diamond carved out of a particularly rough chunk of Rob Crow's life – one that's either the first gem of an inspired second act, or the culmination of an undeniably influential career. In either case, the quality of its cut will last a lifetime."

Saw them in Minneapolis last night with Foxing and TTNG. 9 people on a tiny stage made for an interesting dynamic. Great show but I didn't realize Greg had left and the vocals were more raw than expected. And no female vocal parts on January 10th, or any other song, which I'd been looking forward to. Instrumentation was top notch. Derrick was super cool and got everyone to sign my copy of Harmlessness. Also grabbed the limited screen print, cat t shirt, and the Between Bodies EP. TWIABP can just have all my moneys.

Got to see Turnover play a few songs last night, chatted with them afterwards and they signed some stuff. Real nice dudes. The guitarist was more baked than a Lay's potato chip and I talked about existential bullshit with him for like an hour. 10/10 would see again. Also, he said they've already recorded new material.

At this point I've learned to expect that. I picked up Broken Social Scene's limited purple reissue of "You Forgot It In People", and two days later a dude is selling one on Discogs for $150. I purposely went to the store to try to get one because I knew flippers would be selling them for an arm and a leg.

Idk man, people say white people are narcissistic jerks, but I'm white and I'm pretty fucking awesome. Anyway, the 45rpm thing can be explained (faster speed = more groove hits the needle in the same amount of time = more detailed sound), but I've had some of every color/type of press that has sounded good, and some that have been bad. I don't think color makes a difference, I think it's all to do with the precision and care taken during the pressing process. The only sensible better-sounding color to me is clear, since there's no dye in it at all, it's pure vinyl. I've never heard that dying it makes it more durable though. And as far as 180 gram, all that does is prevent warping, the grooves are the same depth/width. Maybe some resonance in the LP itself would be different since it's thicker, but I don't think that would be noticeable with human hearing.
