  1. Also not really a fan of white vinyl in general, in most instances.

how come people keep saying this? Not bashing at all, just curious. I love my Motion City Soundtrack- Commit This to Memory on white. No streaks (though I enjoy streaks too) just crisp white. Looks good with the artwork.

Off white looks even better. My Everyone Everywhere LP is off white with a small blue streak. BEAUTIFUL. And a great album!

Great question. I don't mind white with a swirl or marble... but just the plain, stoic white stands out as a terrible choice in my mind. Something about it is just super unattractive. Exceptions being when it just "works" with the album art, or compliments the labels nicely. [see; Deftones' Diamond Eyes.]

I just have W&T synonymously linked to the image of a black record, as I'm sure a lot of people do. The limited (/2000) aspect of the HT press is cool, but I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of availability for something that just looks right. At least in my mind, thus far.

  2. I still can't believe this is happening. Got my pre-order in at SRC. In a way I kind of want the white, but I honestly think I'll be more pleased with the black because it'll feel as close as possible to how the CD is. I mean... if that makes sense. The CD is a black vinyl, so why not?

Absolutely this. Also not really a fan of white vinyl in general, in most instances.

  3. Hah, nice analogy.

In my opinion, I'd say it's definitely the band's Morning View. They traded quite a bit of originality for accessibility, I feel. What I love about Kezia and Fortress is that each and every song on those albums - more or less - has an utterly brilliant moment (or three). A completely unexpected bridge, a particularly sweet riff, a surprisingly awesome bass or drum segment, and so on. Moments that knocked me on my ass on the first listen, and continued to get better and better over time. And where the first two albums were riddled with them, I feel like I can count the number of standout instances with one hand, on Scurrilous.

Had this been their debut album, it would have been fine. It's a fun listen, but I feel like it's watered down when compared to everything else Protest has done. I try very hard to look at an artist's new release for what it is... and not compare it to past material. But when a band has only released top-notch albums, their first so-so attempt is going to stand out like a sore thumb. And that's exactly what this album suffers from, in my opinion.

That, and... some atrociously bad lyrics.

Maybe it'll grow on me. I'd probably give it a C+ so far.

  4. In my opinion, the new album is pretty decent. There's no screaming or real "heavy" moments, but the instrumental work is still top notch. Lyrics are significantly weaker; no conceptual story to tie them altogether... and I believe Rody wrote most of them, this time around. After only three or four plays, I'll say it's probably the weakest of PTH's albums. Which is still quite enjoyable, personally speaking. I plan on buying the vinyl, but it falls short to Fortress and Kezia. At least thus far.

  5. One just fetched $400 or so, the other week. Which is strangely on par (and sometimes less) than the silkscreen edition.

Nice job scoring $500+ on this one, Scotty. I'm surprised that the highest bid was locked in way before the auction ended. Assuming you actually received the cash, too, I believe it's the highest I've seen any (legitimate) JD print go for.

  6. Unfortunately Equal Vision can't repress IKOSOSE because they no longer own the rights to it, Sony does. (EVR is the one responsible for this repress.)

This is the worst news I've ever gotten. Unless of course Sony is planning on reissuing it...but that's doubtful.

    Word.

Thanks(?) for the info, Scott. Terrible news. I do believe that I prefer IKS over SSTB, and was tightly crossing my fingers for a 2011 EVR repress. Oh well.
