  1. I was tempted to pick up the Muse boxset as well, but then I realized the 2LP Resistance 180gram pressing is available on amazon for $28. So you're paying $16 more if you buy the boxset in exchange for a usb, dvd, and cd. Plus of course the fancy box and the knowledge that you have something that's "limited edition." Maybe that's worth $16 for you. Just a thought.
  2. If I'm tight on cash, it's only more inspiration to get up early for a flea market or to make it to a garage/estate sale. There are plenty of records for less than a dollar if you put in the time and effort. And in a couple weeks, I'm going to get up early and spend a crazy amount of money on RSD. So I guess times change.
  3. Congrats! Fatherhood has forced me to slim down my hobbies, and along with brewing beer, collecting and listening to records is perfect. My son loves listening to music. I constantly have something spinning while we play together. The biggest challenge was teaching him not to touch my records or gear, but that's gone surprisingly well. My wife went to put on a record a while back, and he ran over saying, "No, no, no. Da da's records!" You might have to cut down on time spent with other interests, but your records will endure and become something you share with your child.
  4. Real Name: I'm shy. Favorite Artists: Queens of the Stone Age, Japandroids, A Tribe Called Quest, Thelonious Monk, Wu-Tang Clan, MF Doom, Cream, Radiohead, Spoon, Kendrick Lamar, and others What's your facebook/twitter/tumblr/etc? Twitter: @SandwichRecords Play in a band? Run a record label? Link us! I played in a band in high school that had many names, the highlight of which was probably Bald Sasquatch. Since then, nothing. Maybe I'll get back to it. Hobbies (outside of record collecting) I brew beer. I like the experimentation involved with making your own. I'm a father, and brewing is the perfect hobby for a parent. It takes a couple hours, then you wait. Couple hours, then wait another couple weeks. And then you end up with beer. Random Things You Want Us to Know Concerning records, I'm a slightly more knowledgable person than your average kid who just bought his first Crosley. So I'm mainly looking to learn more about records on here. I've run into some pretty vicious and snarky folks so far that have pounced on some posters - a bad first impression. But I've also really learned a ton from some posts and enjoyed getting the jump on deals and new releases.
  5. I saw a post over on reddit, and I managed to get one. Thankful. Any other notable autographed releases lately? Someone mentioned Compton by Dre - the first 150 preorders signed.
  6. I've only purchased one record from Newbury, and I wasn't impressed. MF DOOM - Operation Doomsday, limited 2LP red and purple. The sound of the pressing is average and the color of the records is impressive. Everything else? CHEAP. - The labels look shoddy and two of the four are slightly off center. - The sleeve has a very light feel to it, and for being 2LP, it isn't double-gatefold. - The inner sleeves are generic white sleeves, which normally I wouldn't mind, but for an "exclusive, limited edition" set, I expected a little more. Unless I'm just thirsting for a record that I can't find anywhere else, I very much doubt I'll purchase anything from them again.
