  1. Audioengine also has a smaller model of active speakers than the A5's, which might fit your budget better. A2's maybe? I forget.
  2. I have a similar pro-ject to the one you listed and the preamp going into these speakers. Love it for this point in my life; big improvement over my previous clunky setup. https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-Active-2-Way-Speakers-Black/dp/B005OA3BSY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1475368445&sr=8-3&keywords=audioengine+a5
  3. Is a spin clean worth the cash? Even the retro version on sale for $50 still seems like a lot of money for a plastic basin. What's so special about it?
  4. Yeah, I noticed the 180gram on black vinyl reissue, and the original pressings are still floating around occasionally. I don't have a copy of this one yet, so I'm looking forward to the red pressing. The heavy stock and foil for the sleeve also looks nice.

  6. ^^^ I should add, I was pleasantly surprised by the packaging, a nice double gatefold, and the weight of the record. I don't think it's 180g, but it's heavy.
  7. (sigh) I guess I'll just listen to my plain copy of Jack playing acoustic songs and be sad.
  8. Grabbed the Weezer. Thanks! $9.99 with free shipping is a solid price for any of those IMO.
  9. Someone wrote on my Kendrick Lamar - Untitled Unmastered record... Looks like the letter, L.
  10. I'm curious what some of the more knowledgeable folks think of some newer singers like Leon Bridges or Nathaniel Rateliff. Any thoughts? I thought they both released killer albums last year. But I'm not too experienced in this genre.
  11. If you don't want to buy the record from the Vince Staples website for $21, you could go on eBay and pick up a copy for $200. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vince-Staples-RARE-signed-vinyl-1-5000-prima-donna-/162178610590?hash=item25c299359e:g:cMMAAOSw0UdXvLDa
  12. If your plan is to keep the record in the cellophane, don't. Sometimes it will cause the sleeve to bend over time, and it almost always ends up looking crappy. As some other posters have mentioned, just use a razor and carefully remove the cellophane. Then buy some protective outer and inner sleeves for your records. I suggest sleeve city. Best of luck.
  13. Whichever one of my kids likes records gets them. If more than one or all of my kids like records, then as I near death I'll hide them around town in locations I frequent, and whichever child knows their father best gets them.
  14. Based on opinions and posts in this thread, I signed up for VMP two months ago and I love it. The packaging and records have been excellent quality, and I like the special offers like the RATM Evil Empire. I also just picked up the Guru. So big thanks to the folks that gave me some good info. VC came through on this one.
  15. I have the model before Kallax from IKEA (forget what it was called) with the thicker outer portions, and I also have a Kallax. Both have held up over the years. The kallax is a 2x2 and is fully loaded with zero leaning, bending, warping, or whimpering. Those Swedes really make fine furniture.
  16. Thanks. Yeah, I saw updates per month, but I wasn't sure how many total. Your info helps.
  17. So a crate membership is a monthly fee I pay in order to have the privilege of buying records? Am I wrapping my mind around this correctly? It's like if my local record store had a cover charge when you entered?
  18. Not really a trick to finding a lower cost setup, but more of a perspective: I cut back on my record purchases until I had enough money to buy a better setup. After years of buying multiple albums a month and spinning them on a crappy setup, it finally occurred to me that my spending was upside down. Buying and owning records doesn't matter if they sound horrid.
