  1. One more quick comment for those of us who use Tidal and haven't yet heard White. Looks like Tidal's hosting the Master, but you have to use your computer's browser to access it. My guess is they've gone above their usual "Hi-Fi" 16/44 and done something truly Hi-Res this time. Worth looking into, if you can. Seems tonight's shift will be starting at Blue and moving forward through the discography as far as my coworkers can tolerate.
  2. Ortofon's 2Ms aren't known for being exceptionally "exciting" carts to begin with, hence Jlegg's statement of them being clinical. That being said, seems a new pair of monitors might be a really quick way to A/B what's going on with your system.
  3. Heard from a little birdy that the Vinyl Me, Please exclusive version of Pinkerton used the MFSL plates. Could be a good way to get the same pressing for far less, assuming you're a member. Now if they could only do this for Blue
  4. Getting a SRC copy of Say Hello from someone on Discogs was the whole reason I got into the label. Luckily the local shop gets enough from them, so I really could just let them accept the risk if I didn't want to. that being said, I ordered 5 records from them at once and they arrived immaculately packed. When 4/5 were $15-17, I really couldn't pass it up. Maybe I just got lucky.
  5. See, I'm sure I'll find myself at a point where I can get into it all again. I still have no idea how I ended up with Red, too. Must have been a group-haul at one of my earlier RSDs and I don't think I've even played it lol. We used to jam out to Blue before every show we did back in HS as a sort of ritual, but I was definitely more a softie for Pinkerton/Maladroit. I think the lyrical content just resonates with me more.
  6. Checking in here. Have Blue (2002 RE), Pinkerton (2002 RE), and Red (2008 Red Vinyl pressing). For some reason, I skipped Green, so would be curious about adding that one to the collection if the quality of the more recent pressings is up to snuff. Same with Maladroit. But beyond those albums? Can't say I've listened to much since, but couldn't really get into what I heard. I'm not the only early-Weez fan here, am I?
  7. For records like that, I find that I have pretty good luck just putting them into a tighter-packed section of the collection and forgetting about it for a while. I put my records in MoFi-style sleeves between the LP jacket and an outer sleeve, though, to mitigate the possibility of any seamsplits. Might work for you.
  8. But $27 shipped is a mere pittance less than his asking price. I have no idea where you're coming from on this one. On a completely unrelated note, flippers are essentially the scum of the earth. Think I've scared a couple off with my ravenous fan-dom at the local shops.
  9. Well, I took the plunge. The fact they're adding in unlimited swaps gives me a bit of insurance from "crap I'd never listen to on my own" syndrome if there's something I feel like I'll legitimately just never play more than once. The subgenre memberships do seem cool. Really looks like they'll be digging deep into some back catalogues for those groups instead of the usual "must own" titles. But if next month's record isn't DD...I might have to take the wife on an "I'm sorry" shopping spree and that won't be very fun.
  10. Jesus, what a bummer. Weird, too, considering I was 5/5 of what I just got through them on the "make it safely" scale. Good luck trying to get a hold of them to get things corrected
  11. Definitely interested, bud. Still working on that WAF. Mentioned Demon Days and the best words out of her mouth were "how much." There is hope
  12. Decisions, decisions. The possibility of Demon Days is certainly enough to get me to try convincing the wife. Wish me luck...going to propose the annual
  13. Hang in there, bud. I know it's frustrating, but it'll be worth it in the end. If that smoke looks anything like my copy of Copeland's Beneath Medicine Tree, it'll be a beautiful pressing.
  14. Feel like I'm in the same boat and maybe that's reinforced by the fact that, the last time I saw them live, In Keeping Secrets had just been released. Didn't realize until years later that they were all linked and tried to listen to the whole saga again, but found it harder to stay focused on anything afterwards.
  15. God damnit. Now I'm up to 3 must-haves. Btw, I find it quite odd that I live so close to Seattle and I have yet to see a copy of the Pink Album reissue. Random thought.
  16. Sure you don't want a super-rare commemorative translucent shit-brown version to add to your collection? Seriously, though, BullMoose's pricing is pretty on point. Just hope A&M gave it enough attention to detail.
  17. It's ironic I see so much vitriol about SRC, even if it might be well-deserved. Had literally no issue with my last order from them. Shipped 4 days ago (within 2 days of ordering) and I'll most likely be getting my 5 records either tomorrow or Wednesday. I lurked long enough to learn that buying anything on their store that they didn't press would be a major mistake. But what's annoying is getting daily emails from them mentioning they have pretty much the same exact quantity of NME, but HURRY BECAUSE THEY'RE ALMOST GONE. Now watch that counter go towards one and magically grow a couple extra zeros at the end...
  18. He pulls that up here at Silver Platters and I'll give Claudio a call myself
  19. Your tube amp was, by design, quite midrange-heavy. Now that you're dealing with SS, you're fighting an uphill battle between A/D/A conversion and far less introduction of harmonic distortion than your ARC was putting in. Yes, tube is a livelier sound, but I have a really hard time considering it "natural" in a production sense...but that's just the producer in me. That's why the good companies spend far more on the right DACs and power/amp stage topologies on SS amps; it does make a world of difference. As for your choice between the Marantz and the Emotiva, I'm sorry to say, but that's kinda why I rarely recommend Marantz to anybody. It seems, over the past decade, D&M seems to have shifted a bit from focusing on the audiophile and, instead, put more resources into the consumer market. Even McIntosh has suffered sightly and I'm surprised to see new owners of their equipment end up similarly underwhelmed. Emotiva's really not a bad brand. They focus on only a few things and do it quite well. Between them and NAD, I'd rather send my money to Emotiva...if that carries any weight. At least this was a bit of a learning lesson for you, but I encourage you to not think of this in terms of better/worse, but simply different. They're two entirely different topologies and I think you're already on the right track to finding a happy medium between the Marantz and ARC based on EQ settings.
  20. Jim's great and eager to help out. I'm sure he won't steer you wrong. Don't be afraid to ask any technical questions you might have. As much as that stuff costs per oz, it's better to know you're getting exactly what you want.
  21. Consider me a bit guilty for admitting this, but I liked the spit-shine they did on production value when Tonight the Stars Revolt! Came out. Surprised neither ever got a LP release.
  22. I wasn't able to scroll through all 98 of the other pages, so apologies if there's repeats. These are just a few that come to mind: Norma Jean - Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child Blindside - A Thought Crushed My Mind/Silence P.O.D. - Snuff the Punk/Brown/The Fundamental Elements of Southtown Embodyment - The Narrow Scope of Things Marcy Playground - Marcy Playground Matchbox Twenty - More Than You Think You Are Noise Ratchet - Till We Have Faces Savage Garden - Savage Garden Tool - 10,000 Days (official release, not a bootleg)
