No, I haven't picked any up yet. I'm keeping it in mind to get eventually. Right now my unread pile is way too big so I'm not buying any new TPBs until I read that pile. (buying those B&N bargain books did not help this cause) Speaking of French comics... Have you ever read Blacksad? Dark Horse is reprinting it in English and it looks like something I should check out. Blacksad is another classic in the Franco-Belge Bande Dessinées (I'm pretty sure it's originally from Italie). There's only 3 volumes so far tough, and we've been waiting for volume 4 for almost 10 years. They are all really excellent, but my personnal favorite is Artic Nation (Volume 2). It's a Polar/Thriller, and altough it's a fairly "classic" intrigue, the tone of the book makes it a great read, and the drawing are just incredible. Flight aren't cheap to Portugal (around 1600$ from Montreal in july), but we bought a ticket to Paris (950$), then a plane ticket from paris to Porto (70$ if I remember correctly). So it's not THAT expensive to go to Europe!

So I'm going to Portugal in july, Porto and Lisbon (and then Paris). Anybody went there? Just looking for informations on interesting things to see / do that are not necesseraly in the tourist guide! Thanks!

Anyone went to FCBD today? I think it's a great day for kids! At my store in Ottawa, there was around 12 store clerks in disguise (supergirl, emma frost, wonder woman, 3 star wars dudes, green arrow, etc...) and kids really seems to appreciate it! The staff was outside the store inviting people in and telling them about free comics. I think it's a fantastic idea to promote comics! I got around 25-30 free comics, witch is also great!

How many comics do you guys have? I use bdgest to catalog my comics (www.bdgest.com). They have a HUGE database of comics, and you download them in the software. It's really great, tough there's is not many us comics as of right now. MOstly Franco-Belge Stuff. But every time someone add a comic to his collection, he can upload it on the online database (www.bedetheque.com for the database.) I have 2763 in my software , plus a few hundres comics in long boxes not cataloged yet. Here's a small picture of the software

I Just Read Magneto's Testament, and it'a really really great book. A great origin story for a character that I didn't know well. You don't really learn about him / is power, it's just a GREAT story with really good art. Everyone should read it!

The best is of course to read them in order, but just to see the evolution of Van Hamme and Rosinsky work. But the beggining of the story is not essential to understand the rest. I see that every volume on amazon contain two French Issue. You should start with The Archer (Voume 4) (One of the best story, it's the one that won the most price) and then get The Land of QA (Volume 5) and finally city of the Lost God (Volume 6). These 3 issues (6 in Fench) are a GREAT complete story. I would start there, and then read the rest. If you want a stand alone story, get volume 3 instead (Beyond the Shadow). But seriously, Get the Land of QA arc... (Volume 4-5-6).

I'll let you know if some are ever translated. I know XIII (The US President got killed by a man who lost his memory) got at least a few issue translated, but just 5 or 6, and you need the first twelve to fully appreciate the story. Also, I once saw Ordinary Victory by Manu Larcenent in English... Thorgal is also a great "Heroic Fantasy" comic. It a shame you don't speak french, I would have SO MUCH reading suggestion for you. France and Belgium produce a ton of incredible comics.

No, they cancelled everything, except the Dracula one. I received an email last week saying they haven't receive the Dracula yet, and saying I had 24 hours to 'renew' my order for another 30 days, which I did. So still waiting! But I went to Quebec city last week and went to a few used book store, and I bought maybe 30 Franco-Belge Comic book (They are called Bande Dessinées, and are all hardcovers of 48 pages to 62 pages normally), so I have a lot to read right now!
