  1. I swung through my store today and picked up a few things that I keep seeing repeated requests for around here.

I'd like to work out a deal for a SDRE/Circa split first and then sell the rest for cost + shipping.

    I have:

Death Cab For Cutie Live 2012

    Pinback S/T

    Bayside The Time Has Come7"

    Nirvana Pennyroyal Tea 7"

    Let's Make A Deal

    Send PMs.

  2. I don't know if anyone mentioned it but apparently the Nirvana 7" was by far the most requested thing released today. My store only had one copy, which was kind of ridiculous, but I fortunately managed to snag it for a friend who was really wanting it (and they had it at $10 rather than some of the more ridiculous prices we were seeing).

One store I went into at about 1pm had at least 20 copies of the Nirvana 7" maybe more. I wished there were that many SDRE 7's. I can't believe how much people are paying for those on ebay.

The truly awesome fact that the Afghan Whigs are releasing their first record in 16 years is exciting enough for us to lose our proverbial shit over; the fact that we, Sub Pop Records, have the honor of putting it out is enough for us to lose our literal shit over. (Gross? Sure. True? Maybe.) With that said, mark your calendars for April 15th, 2014 as the day that The Afghan Whigs make a very welcome return into all of our lives with Do to the Beast, their first record in 16 years! More details will be on the way very soon, so check back in. Until then, rejoice, the prodigal sons have returned.

  4. I just bought a bunch of suspension parts from rock auto. Was a little apprehensive, but everything turned out ok. Cheap. Quick delivery.

Amazon.com had all the same parts too, but slightly more expensive.

I need to pick up a few parts for my car. I've heard good things about Rockauto.com, and I'm thinking about going with them. Does anyone else have any preferred sites for car parts?

The first ten seconds of "Fleece," the opening track on Shade Perennial, Bottomless Pit's mesmerizing third long player, sets the tone for the rest of the album. A carefully considered series of notes are picked on baritone guitar, deliberately unfolding the melody, only to be interrupted by a staccato burst.  The guitars wrap around one another over a propulsive and elegantly understated rhythm section. Space opens in the music for a voice to emerge. It is enveloping and hypnotic, and you may play it over from the beginning a few times before moving on.

What do we know about Bottomless Pit? Perhaps you're already familiar with Tim Midyett and Andy Cohen from Silkworm, a band that put out nine albums between 1987 and 2005. Maybe you're a fan of Seam, with whom Chris Manfrin drummed, or .22, one of bassist Brian Orchard's other groups.

None of that matters. What matters are these songs. What matters is hearing Midyett phrase the lyrics to "Full of Life." What matters is hearing Cohen's magnificent guitar solo cut into "Null Set" and then disappear. What matters is the way Orchard and Manfrin exercise restraint throughout, allowing the guitars to rise and fall and the arrangements to unfold effortlessly.

By the time the feedback begins and the band fades out on "Felt a Little Left," Shade Perennial's final and possibly most widescreen tune, thirty-two minutes will have passed under Bottomless Pit's spell. This music is an incantation. It's post-punk perspiration and the well-worn warmth of Crazy Horse. It's inspired and assertive and won't make you ashamed to call it the blues.

Shade Perennial will be released on October 29, 2013 via Comedy Minus One. It is available on LP with a compact disc included in the packaging for convenience. It will also be available on all digital platforms.
300 copies of the record pressed on "coke bottle green" translucent vinyl can be pre-ordered only through the CMO web site. Should said stock numbers dwindle, a siren will be sounded.
