THE FIRST THREE RICARDO DONOSO ALBUMS NOW AVAILABLE AS A VERY LIMITED BOXSET. Ricardo Donoso has composed a new paradigm of ambient music, in which concrete textures and digital synthesis expand on an abstract world in constant movement & mutation. Under a chain of progressive rhythm's, cinematic textures and elegant melodicism, Donoso's work pushes through with piercing strength, manipulating a sonic wave through space with nothing but pulse and mind blowing intensity.

Although Donoso's work has coalesced into a much broader and dynamic beast, his early work continues to be a source of inspiration. ‘Symmetry' now compiles Donoso's first three albums, lovingly referred to as the “Digitalis Trilogy” which includes Progress Chance, Assimilating the Shadow and As Iron Sharpens Iron, One Verse Sharpens Another in a deluxe 4xLP BOXSET & 3xCD edition. A truly entrancing journey of polyrhythmic counterpoint, the ‘Symmetry' collection takes in influence from minimalist composers such as Reich & Riley, early techno and trance, and lush and deeply harmonic ambient music. It's possible to look at the ‘Symmetry' trilogy as a blueprint to Donoso's later work in both its musical scope & thematic grandeur. Amidst all of its wide eyed, dreamlike states there is always a rumbling of subtle violence piercing just underneath the surface creating a truly immersive experience.

Special "10 Years Of Denovali" Reissue. A one time only vinyl repress of this genre classic (350 pieces). Fantastic lengthy instrumental epics that tell not just stories, but tomes. DATURAH was an instrumental five-piece band from Germany being active between 2003 and 2011. This is their debut album (released in 2005), which consists of three incredibly tracks spanning the space of 40+ minutes. An essential release for fans of Explosions in the Sky, Mono, Mogwai, Caspian et al.

The eight piece group Neil On Impression from Italy presents a real masterpiece of instrumental music - fully-orchestrated movements combining harrowing Guitars, Drums, Voice, Percussion, Hands, Piano, Accordion, Glockenspiel, Keyboards, Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Saxophone, Trumpet, Organ, Keyboards, Effects, Cello and Violin.

L'oceano Delle onde che Restano onde per Sempre is an album sure to win the heart of any instrumental music fan, and Neil On Impression by extension are deserving of spotlight attention: leaps and bounds ahead of so many bands that keep remaking the same flawed record. Sometimes albums that aren't completely innovative seem to strike with an astounding force; Neil on Impression may not bring anything brand new to the music table, but their complex melange of genres and expert blend of string instruments takes them one step closer to compositional perfection. BERSARIN QUARTETT – III Cd | 2x12'' | DIGITAL



After his successfull selftitled debut in 2008 and the sophomore "II" in 2012 - album of the month in many magazines and in numerous "Best of the year" lists - Bücker returns with his third Bersarin Quartett album "III", due for release 6.11.2015 on Denovali Records.

Much like his two predecessors, III is a pure paradox. It is the creation of a perfectionist, an adamant control freak. Every element, be it a note, an ambience layer, a string arrangement, a field recording, a baseline, a vocal (Clara Hill on Track 11) or a beat, is meticulously modified and then assigned its place in Bücker's vast but still minimalistic arrangements. Thus, superficially Bücker's pieces seem to radiate a certain mechanical bleakness. However, there is a unique reduced warmth and liveliness emerging from these stainless compositions and transcending them. This transcendence is precisely the point where Bücker ironically looses control over his creations. In contrast to the first two Bersarin Quartett albums, III offers a few darker shades and succeeds even further in narrowing down the arrangements to the absolute essentials without loosing the characteristic grandeur of Bücker's sound. Whereas Bersarin Quartett's debut was merely a description of melancholia in its most pure form, III maybe even goes as far a defining what melancholia really is. It is the only emotion in the vast spectrum of human states of mind which one can bear forever.

GREG HAINES – WHERE WE WERE CD | 2x12'' | DIGITAL Reissue



Limited vinyl Reissue - 350 pieces with solid gold / black a/b color effect.

This album is the result of one person sitting alone in a room and creating something entirely personal, without the frustrations of organising large-scale sessions for other players or the laborious work of preparing scores. In fact, the few scored moments that were written were later disregarded, with a whole string session with PETER BRODERICK ending up on the cutting-room floor (sorry, Peter!), along with endless hours of other material. What is left is the condensed diary of a year of exploring old tape delays, analog synths and percussion - some of which played by percussionist/composer SYTZE PRUIKSMA (a member, along with Haines, of THE ALVARET ENSEMBLE, whose debut album was released in December 2012 by Denovali Records), and some of which played and recorded in a midnight daze at Haines' studio in Berlin. Working in this way led to a whole host of other long-term influences feeding into the music that had never found an outlet before. The experiments in dub conducted by the likes of KING TUBBY or LEE PERRY and continued by the likes of RHYTHM & SOUND had a profound effect, as did the iconic work of TONY ALLEN and other African composers. The spaced-out soundscapes found on early TANGERINE DREAM and KLAUS SCHULTZE had always had a subtle influence on Greg's work, but now armed with an arsenal of dusty studio toys, those sounds became warmer, richer and more prominent.

The influences evoked here may at first appear at odds with Greg's previous work, but an affinity between the dense poly-rhythms of Africa and beyond have long been an influence for contemporary composers such as STEVE REICH, and their reach and importance on western music is undeniable. But now the lines have been blurred, and its impossible to say where one “style” or influence stops and another begins – something that was perhaps the only concept for this record. The symphonic synth crescendo of “So it Goes” would not have the same impact if it were not following the head- nodding drive of “Something Happened”. The delicate arpeggios of “Wake Mania Without End II” only exaggerate the unrelenting, rhythmical explosion of “Habenero”, and without starting with the intimate piano of “The Intruder”, the album's cavernous ending wouldn't feel so otherworldly. Its all in there or at least whats left of it after the hiss, the dirt and the degradation of the tape machine destroyed it, reworked it, and spat it back out fullyformed. Mixed and mastered together with NILS FRAHM at his Durton Studio, Berlin.

2015 Reissue of the 3rd full length of the cult outfit from France. 2010: Three years after Pessimiste(s), two years after Nihiliste(s), and one year after Misanthrope(s), there are still those red flickering lights, the fog and the mood of desperateness, in(s)aneness and darkness if you listen to this band. CELESTE are back with a new full length. In times where other metalbands copy their last full length or try to catch attention with a new producer for every new record CELESTE are just trying to extend their sound and the intensity with every new song. And they did it again. They again wrote a heavier, better, darker full length than the last time. And... in this context they enhanced their unique, incomparable sound with new elements: they interlaced well fitting samples and for the first time they experimented with guest musicians and new instruments. Two people from LES FRAGMENTS DE LA NUIT joined them with piano and strings. CELESTE and piano & strings? Yes. And it fits perfectly. Naturally they again created a new level of denseness in their sound – and that's maybe the reason why they found so many new fans in several genres during the past 10 years. From black metal to sludge, from doom to posthardcore – the people love them because they're not copycats – they're not trying to exhaust any genre clichés - they're creating their own dark soundscapes with every new record. Seven songs (more than 40 minutes) of pure hopelessness and distress. And it's pretty simple to circumstantiate their success: they're still an excellent liveband. ‘'Don't pass up on the heaviest albums of the year of one of the best metal bands of the past 10 years.''

TERMINAL SOUND SYSTEM – DUST SONGS CD | 2x12'' | DIGITAL



Skye Klein's Terminal Sound System is a project born in a dingy Melbourne warehouse at the turn of the century. On the more than ten past releases, TSS merged epic doom, post-rock and jazz with electronica, drum'n'bass, heavy dub and ethereal vocals into a style wholly unique. The new album 'Dust Songs', which sees its release in December 2014 on Denovali Records, is a logical extrapolation and a surprise at the same time.
More than any other Terminal Sound System release, Dust Songs brings the voice well and truly to the front. The mainstays of voice and acoustic guitar are stretched and warped through failing technology, eroded and in a constant state of collapse. The stories here are important, but are shrouded in a haze of drone and hiss: a future artifact, an archeological discovery or malfunctioning transmission. The words and melodies have been reduced to their looped essence, no longer a linear narrative but something representing a mantra. Endlessly cycling - hoping, if not for transendence, then at least some kind of sense.
Perhaps paradoxically (for all its reliance on looping) Dust Songs represents a shift away from "modern" production methods of tempo maps and recallable sounds and grids - rather, it was largely created in a linear fashion as one would work with a tape machine (and a razor and splicing block). Generally starting as a looped fragment of guitar, as the songs evolved they went through countless revisions, twists and turns and re-imaginings, so that the end result bears little resemblance to any of the original ideas. In a move that Skye Klein may well come to regret when it comes the time to perform them live, almost all of the sounds used were patched up on the spot and are essentially unrecallable.
Klein finally adds: "(As usual) the lyrical (and musical) themes of Dust Songs contain deep meaning for me, and (as usual) this meaning has largely been obscured, warped and obfuscated. There is a story here, and it picks up shortly after the last one paused. I hope that these songs resonate with you, enough to create your own narrative."

Following 'Without the World' and 'Winter Lady', the New Zealander Alicia Merz of Birds of Passage returns with her third album 'This Kindly Slumber'. Like a cocoon, this album will envelope you in its many layers. Quiet storms filled with ambient atmospheres, densely layered choral drones, fragile vocals. Harsh reverberation, gently lulled by sweet musings, offset by poetic and philosophical lyrics, ebb away into blissful ambience.

Eaten Alive is the fifth studio album as Talvihorros for the experimental British composer Ben Chatwin. Marking a move away from Chatwin's signature guitar sound into a wide-ranging electronic sound palette, featuring his most direct and uncompromising work to date. The album was born when Daniel Crossley, owner of Fluid Radio met with Ben in late 2010. The pair visited areas in East London where Daniel had lived for much of his life, also the same area Ben found himself living. They shared stories and memories, looking back at a past that featured loss, isolation, addiction and abuse.

Anyone who has joined a concert of N during the last year may have wondered on which record those pieces played live can be found. Therefore we very happy to announce N(22) "Goor", a four track double vinyl album. The closing track is a 19 minute version of the deeply melancholic live favourite "Suedfall", slowly building up to a crescendo of distortion before corroding into nothingness.

TALVIHORROS – EATEN ALIVE CD | 12'' | DIGITAL



Eaten Alive is the fifth studio album as Talvihorros for the experimental British composer Ben Chatwin. Marking a move away from Chatwin's signature guitar sound into a wide-ranging electronic sound palette, featuring his most direct and uncompromising work to date.

The pair visited areas in East London where Daniel had lived for much of his life, also the same area Ben found himself living. They shared stories and memories, looking back at a past that featured loss, isolation, addiction and abuse. As Ben explains:

"We spent a weekend going to places where Dan had grown up, places that had stuck in his head for various reasons. Dan shared with me some harrowing and heartbreaking tales that eventually culminated in him battling with drug addiction. I think Dan was incredibly brave to get out of the situation he found himself in, get out of London, and live the life that he is living today."

Eaten Alive is the result of this encounter, as Chatwin looks both introspectively and into the community where events like this can so readily happen. An album that focuses on the darker recesses of life, where bold melodic ideas fight with harsh noise and glacial ambience to create something organic, evolving and physically arresting.

N(22) - GOOR 2x12'' | DIGITAL



Anyone who has joined a concert of N during the last year may have wondered on which record those pieces played live can be found. Therefore we very happy to announce N(22) "Goor", a four track double vinyl album. Opening with the 23 minute title-track, a monster, somehow focused on the sound aesthetic of a distorted organ played via guitar-tube-amplifiers and shifting between mantra and maelstrom before splitting into fractions, followed by the swirling black mass of  "Wehle", record one of the album is like one massive drone, absorbing, dark, no air left to breathe. Having survived that, record two offers the ethereal and melodic piece "Blauort" as a recovery before closing the chapter with a 19 minute version of the deeply melancholic live favourite "Suedfall", slowly building up to a crescendo of distortion before corroding into nothingness.

Onkalo ('hiding place') is the name of the spent nuclear fuel repository currently under construction in Finland to house hazardous nuclear waste. It is designed to last a minimum of 100,000 years - a scale of time unimaginable when the oldest surviving man made structures have endured not even a tenth of that time. The human species as we know it is thought to have existed for approximately 100,000 years - is it possible for humankind to build something that will endure a timescale that vast again? And what will be left to uncover it if it does so?
Taking this as a starting point, Petrels second album - after acclaimed debut Haeligewielle - draws on a fascination with how we deal with what is left over, both physically and mentally. With this thread running through Onkalo, Petrels also takes inspiration from speculative science, immense time scales, retro-futurism, personal history, and how the post-war optimism of the dawn of the atomic age has come up against a more uncertain vision of the future.

We've prepared two new releases for you in the past weeks. Available for preorder now are the new albums of FIELD ROTATION and ONEIROGEN. NEW RELEASES
After his fantastic performance at the CTM Festival in Berlin Oneirogen finished his new album called „Kiasma“. Mario Diaz de Leon creates his own style of hallucinatory music, merging ethereal synths, brutal distortion, dark ambient and noise.
With his new album Christoph Berg a.k.a. Field Rotation concentrates on the more classically based production, continuing and expanding upon the musical idea of his 'Acoustic Tales' project. 'Fatalist: The Repetition of History' is marked by a noticeable inner fragility, the contrast between bitter harshness and stirring melancholy.
Both albums are as always available as cd, limited vinyl version and digitally.

NEW GREG HAINES RELEASES
2013 seems to be the year of Greg Haines: In May we will release “Where We Were”, a new album which focuses on electronic and percussive elements. In conjunction with this, a 3xCd, 5xLp boxset release consisting of Greg's three previous albums will be released, so listeners can finally enjoy them all together. Alongside work in various other projects that will be announced as the year continues, Haines will also be scoring the new ballet by David Dawson, to be premiered in November at the Royal Opera House in London, with The Royal Ballet.

In the fatalist view of history, the ancient Greeks thought that just as the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter repeat themselves every year, history would do the same and follow a cyclic course. This may or may not be true, however, Field Rotation has certainly succeeded once again in composing an album which will ease as many minds as it will thoroughly shake.

ONEIROGEN – KIASMA CD | 2xLP | DIGITAL

After the debut album "Hypnos" and the "Veni Nox Anima" EP finally new material of this New York based composer. With ONEIROGEN, Mario Diaz de Leon creates his own style of hallucinatory music, merging ethereal synths, brutal distortion, dark ambient and noise. The project was initiated in 2012 with the release of "Hypnos", which garnered widespread acclaim among fans of experimental and heavy music for its varied and cinematic intensity.
While maintaining a strong electronic (and unclassifiable) sound, "Kiasma" offers an intensification of the metal elements present on the debut. Thoughout the album's walls of drumless distortion, melody is a prominent feature, with tracks such as "Numina", "Mutilation", "Pathogen", and "Mortisomnia" exploring revelatory intersections of heavy synths and guitars. The 14-minute "Katabasis" opened nearly every live show of 2012, and is rooted in drone/doom metal, with elements of modern classical and noise. "Gauze" and "Imminence" serve as haunting interludes, and are concise takes on bleak and cold melody. Ranging from melancholic to brutally foreboding, another immersive and visionary album by ONEIROGEN.

We've already informed you a while ago that the DENOVALI SWINGFEST ESSEN gets two cute siblings in 2013: DENOVALI SWINGFEST LONDON and BERLIN.  All details regarding the London edition are available in this newsletter:

TICKET PREORDER
From now on you can preorder your ticket for the London edition happening on April 20 and 21 2013 at Scala, Loonon. The price is 28 Pounds (34 Euro) for a Saturday ticket, 28 Pounds (34 Euro) for a Saturday ticket and 56 Pounds (68 Euro) for a festival ticket (due to the high production costs of this Swingfest event there will be no discounted tickets for both days unfortunately). LINEUP SWINGFEST LONDON 2013
The 2013 London edition of the festival will feature 14 artists. Their sets will - as always - be as long as a proper club concert. We'll announce the last artist for day one in the course of January.
