  1. You're from Pittsburgh and you're pulling for Cheese? Isn't that illegal? Won't they pop you with a terrible towel for that, up there? ;^/
  2. I've only recently built a facebook page at the request of some of my customers but I haven't noticed anything different... but then I don't use it much... nor do I use Iphones, text or chat much. I'd have to find my reading glasses to do that. :^p All I use my facewhatever page for... is to announce new arrivals and present information about my mission statement as a record shop, location, etc... promtional activities. I've linked to lots of cool, obscure youtube videos, and that seems to be "liked" I wouldn't have built a facebook page if my customers wouldn't have requested it... but I don't mind admitting I'm glad my customers seem to like it. Whatever makes them happy is just freakin peachy, to me. Sorry to hear the regulars don't like the new facebook. I guess I don't follow them closely enough to have noticed. :^/
  3. glad to hear the postal service actually did their job. :^/ + i woke up. - i have more grey hair
  4. The first records I had were hand me downs. That was about '67. Actually I think my parents gave me puff the magic dragon in '64 but it is hard to recall that far back, quite frankly... I started buying my own records right around the 70's. My older sisters were already teenage hippies by then so I had beaucoup hand me downs from their circle of friends. That included guitars, stereos and records. Damn i miss that. ;^/ I remember riding my bike over to Prof Erny's (music store that had records) and spending paper route money on records when i was a kid. The dollar bin would've given many of you a vinyl woody. The first stereo i purchased new, was around '74. I've never really been a collector, however. I'm a guitarist and a music lover so it was never really about ebayisms to me. To each their own. I will say this.... "collecting" has changed. As a retailer of records I've noticed more of the "collectors" are merely ebayists without a turntable. There has always been value collectors, but these days it seems like there are far more. My theory is all the "Antique Roadshows" on TV have turned many folks into instant pickers without the background knowledge. :/

  12. Press release Vinylville Records Lafayette, LA 70507 3011 i-49 #500A Vinylville is pleased to announce our record store is an authorized dealer for the Acadiana region for the famous poster artist, Bob Masse. Even during a slow economy vinyl continues to do well and the expansion into distribution for Masse Vintage Posters is an example of record store growth in our region. Products include: [*:61gppghx]limited amounts of vintage posters (signed, unsigned) [*:61gppghx]authentic reproductions of famous music event posters Bob Masse is from Canada's west coast and has been producing concert posters since the 1960s. While attending art school in Vancouver, British Columbia, he began his career doing posters for the folk acts that came through town, in exchange for free drinks, tickets, and the opportunity to meet the musicians. As folk became folk-rock, and Vancouver was visited by such bands as the Grateful Dead, The Doors, the Jefferson Airplane and Steve Miller, Bob continued to produce memorable concert posters for these bands, and helped pioneer the emerging psychedelic art genre. He was greatly influenced by the art and music scenes in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where he spent considerable time in the late 1960s. Masse befriended the Vancouver band, the Collectors, and when they travelled to Los Angeles to make a record, he followed, spending the final years of the 1960s living in the Laurel Canyon area, producing posters and album covers for various bands of the day. His work from this time is highly sought by collectors. Bob's designs reflect his interest in the art nouveau movement and the work of Alphonse Mucha in particular. While he employs many of the techniques of that period, his brilliant colour palette, unique lettering style, and bold composition give his art a signature look. As rock concert art began to enjoy a surge in popularity duing the 90s, Masse returned to the medium with renewed force, producing a steady stream of posters for the first time since the 1970s. Bob continues to produce pieces for contemporary performers, such as, Tori Amos, the Smashing Pumpkins, Neil Young, and many more. These are just a few examples... Bob was very sought after for his poster services by some of the biggest names in the industry... since the 1960's. The posters tell that story better than I can. He is a living classic rock musical history lesson. Please contact me if you have any questions about obtaining these historic posters. I'll have them available here in Acadiana in approximately 10 days for regional customers. Vinylville Record Shop 3011 i-49 #500A Lafayette, LA 70507 337-349-1932
  13. +1 discogs is a vinyl mecca. i'm a huge fan. --- hori, there are clueless sellers in any venue, online or in the real world. as an example, some of my local competition in the retail world leave records they resell in a unairconditioned shed all summer long, clean records with 100% undiluted alcohol and a dishrag and then ask way too much for a purple label beatles reissue with scratches. my theory is do the right things and customers seek you out. (honest grading, etc) that business plan and mission statement seems to be working for me, so far so good anyway. :/ there are boneheaded sellers anywhere, thank goodness for the rest of us is all i can say. even though i have a retail outlet... i collect too. i've been exposed to bad sellers too. frankly, the two ho$ebag "resellers" we have in my town are the main reason i started a small record store.
  14. That proves that typo$ can be costly. :/ this person has some great things. http://www.ebay.com/sch/depackh7/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562 That guy has obscure stuff available. Some of those Black Crowes LPs are tough finds, etc... Happy hunting.
  15. I've never brewed at home but when I lived in Austin, one of my neighbors did. I barely remember some of it. He was good at brewing. Serious beer buzz is what I recall. There is a local small brewery I'd suggest... http://www.parishbeer.com/
  16. + I woke up. Any day old people wake up is a wonderful day. Enjoy your youth whilest you have it. - I've like noticed, like, much of America, like, are becoming valley girls. Like, hurl. From the perspective of an old fart, that kinda blows. Dude.
  17. I understand that the Post Office is needed, but damn. I have horror stories as a small business owner concerning the "USPS" over the years. Put it this way, if they worked for me I would have fired them as far as some of the bullshit I've seen, but I couldn't because they're a needed service. They're just spoiled brats. Do you realize what kind of bennies they get? Most of our local workforce is YOUNG people in the USPS around here. I stop by a few times a week and I have more grey hair than any of them. So much for the theory upthead.
  18. The Midnight Special. TV used to be half way decent. the subtitles crack me up almost as much as the hair. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTDRd0Z0O4o In an attempt to somewhat stay on topic, I really like Wilco and I'm old, biased and critical about "newer" bands.
  19. I just liked threadgills because the owners were so nice to us. I miss that vietnamese restaurant in North Austin... Kim Phung? wow. great food. As I originally mentioned the best places in Austin are the small, mom and pop out of the way locations. Perhaps I'm biased, but I really liked them. When I lived in Travis Heights I used to ride my bike downtown to work instead of driving. I'd always stop at Los Manita's for breakfast. Not sure if they're still around. I liked Guero's too but it was just down the street from where I was living. Onward thru the fog. You don't have to worry about keeping Austin weird. It's like New Orleans. It is genetic. :^/
  20. + it wasn't brutally hot - tropical storm lee is here
  21. I saw Johnny Cash play at Emo's for SXSW... that is how long ago it has been since I lived there. http://sxsw.mobi/node/3265
  22. Barton Springs Swimmin' Hole The "overlook" is pretty cool. A lot of folks were bat watchers. I'm not that into bats, but I used to see them when I'd ride my bike across the bridge. I forget what time of year they're active... You can rent canoes. I'd suggest not going under the bridge where all the bats hang out.
  23. Austin Music Scene Austin Food Threadgills. droooool.
  24. I used to live in Austin for about a decade. Fun town. Great live music scene, or it was back then. I'd suggest the out of the way places. Those were the best. Great vinyl store selection in Silicon Gulch. :-/ Onward thru the fog.
