  3. i cant link the post from Arsenal.com since its blocked at work, but by accessing it from my phone: "We immediately and resolutely told them once again that we have no intention of selling our captain. "To be clear, we will not make any kind of counterproposal or enter into any discussion. Barcelona have publicly stated that they will respect our position and we expect that they will keep their word." we'll see what happens if Barca ups the ante.
  4. well, Arsenal just announced that they turned down Barca's offer for Cesc. I don't believe this will be the last we hear of it, but good news nonetheless.
  5. i heard jackson won't step up. he and his wife have been working feverishly behind the scenes anyway. his handiwork will be all over these movies regardless. last i read they were searching for a new director.

  8. this bums me out more than the Isis news... Ottawa, Canada's Buried Inside is apparently going on an indefinite hiatus following thirteen years and several releases (including two with Relapse Records) together. Guitarist/vocalist Andrew Tweedy had the following to say (in an Exclaim! interview): "We've sort of refrained from calling it a break-up We're playing a few more shows, which will be our last, and then taking a break with no intention of resuming as of right now. It's less dramatic, I suppose. Life is catching up with us, I guess. It's hard to just take one step back at this point. You’re kind of in or you're out... we've been less and less available for shows and tours the last little while, and ultimately the timing seemed right. The idea of continuing on half-hearted is the opposite of what this band has always been about." Following two shows this week (in Toronto and Montreal, respectively), the group expects to play one final show in Ottawa this fall. http://www.lambgoat.com/news/view.aspx?id=14553
  9. definitely want to check this out. any word on when Shame will be shipping?
  10. here is an email a work colleague of mine received from his nephew who received it from a former colleague of his who is still in Thailand: "I think everyone is taking a deep breath, now that the black smoke has dissipated. But the next few days will be interesting in the same sense as that infamous Chinese proverb. I suspect that this is the middle phase, rather than the end of the protest. There is great potential for civil disquiet, unrest, disturbances, strife -- pick the word you prefer. War? That, too, is possible. Like the yellow shirts, the red shirts are a coalition. The red shirts are bankrolled by multi-billionaires ("new money" capitalists) and the yellow shirts are bankrolled by multi-billionaires ("old money" remnants of the feudal system who are also capitalists). The yellow shirts were less destructive of property, during their protest, for the reason that they own the property. The red shirt rank and file are mostly rural poor (with whom I empathize and sympathize), and I suspect they are being used by those in the background. In the red shirt coalition there are small radical contingencies of the type that make Maoists look tame. This latter type is not yet done, and I suspect they will be able to play on the sympathies of those who lost family and friends. In the end, I see only two possibilities. Thailand will have a military dictatorship or a corporate state that functions like a dictatorship. There has never been an adequate constitution or a real democracy. The problems with their various constitutions have been many, reducible to two main contradictions. First, the people cannot be sovereign if the monarch is the head of government. The Thai monarch differs from the English monarch in this respect. Second, a constitution is no place for provisions of civil, commercial, and criminal law -- that's the job of statutory law. Thai constitutions are always a mingled mess. On the whole, I think that democracy does not fit Thai history, culture, or tradition. I doubt politicians will ever get it right, for these reasons. Meanwhile, to you rother questions: Yes, Lampang has a curfew. This weekend may tell the story re: what the next several months may be like -- vis-a-vis violence, reprisals, etc."
