  1. But aren't viewers expected to be critics at least at some level? Isn't constructive criticism healthy for creating diversity and fueling new and better ideas? And don't some shows deserve more criticism then others? Personally, I don't think for example Breaking Bad needs as much criticism as LOST. If viewers weren't critical would't that defeat the purpose of having diversity between different shows. Couldn't writers then simply say "If it works for that show it will work for mine." Another example is: Ronald D. Moore supposedly created Battlestar Galactica based on criticisms he held towards Star Trek. Thank God too.
  2. Did not see a thread for this so: Lick My Decals Off, Baby, The Spotlight Kid, Clear Spot, plus outtakes "Sun Zoom Spark 1970 to 1972, a new four-vinyl Captain Beefheart box set will be released next month. The collection brings together Lick My Decals Off, Baby from 1970 and The Spotlight Kid and Clear Spot from 1972. Everything has been newly remastered for the first time. What is perhaps of most interest is a fourth bonus disc that features plenty of outtakes; early mixes, alternates, instrumental versions – all previously unreleased. Even better, there is a choice of CD box or vinyl set." Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sun-Zoom-Spark-Limited-Edition/dp/B00N4FAVCA
  3. Unrealistic biological conditions do not require unrealistic physics. The fact is the writers could not think of a better way out of that situation.

  5. Man if you are bothered that much by hearing about the Walking Dead being the first zombie epic television show, can you imagine how bothered I (as a dedicated fan) am watching carol cry like a little girl in a car only to have her finally respond (to a zombie mind you) "GO AWAY!". The cheesy music in the background doesn't help either. Too many scenes like this. Unless of course someone out there feels this is truly a necessary scene that certainly defines Carol and is essential to character development...yeah. You are jumping to a few conclusions. In fact I am not quite sure what you are implying by saying AMC knows how to make a good character driven program? No one is disputing that, in fact I was earlier praising their work with Breaking Bad. But, to imply that any programming that airs on AMC is gold simply by airing on that channel is a bit of a strange idea. No writer is free from bad ideas or poorly executed work. I have no desire for them to simply make a cheesy zombie movie (nor have I met anyone that asks for that). That would be terrible. First of all they couldnt. Especially since Romero has already conquered that domain so well. I specifically stated that originally they regularly challenged audiences. That is an important point. It implies that yes they are aware of B campy films and have purposely included nuances from that era but they also took it a step further in a new and fresh direction. That is one thing a I really crave. A new and fresh direction that demands intrigue. The first seasons DO establish this and I love them. I still think the walking dead is a great tv show, I would just like to see some intrigue brought back.
  6. I stand corrected. You are right, but I still believe my theory is correct. I should not have used the word "debut" it diverts the focus from my intention. What I meant was Breaking Bad's steady rate of successful writing affected the writers of Walking Dead. Surely you can see the change in the style of writing of the walking dead from the first season to now? It is quite obvious.
  7. I am a firm believer that this show changed when breaking bad debuted on AMC. I strongly believe that Walking Dead tried (and failed) to compete with the viewing market of Breaking Bad. As soon as Breaking Bad began becoming successful, Walking Dead added more and more drama to the show, while removing elements that made the show unique. But unlike Breaking Bad, Walking Dead's drama lacked substance, plot relevance or even intrigue. Walking Dead would be better off if it kept marketing itself as a unique show that does not have any interest in conforming to modern day standards or practices of other television shows. Isnt that the entire point of this show anyway? To be the first Zombie epic television program? Because lately im confused, it feels more like the first never ending survival soap opera that occasionally features zombies that slightly annoy the remaining humans. The first season of Walking Dead is the best. It has all of the elements of a good B zombie film. Cheesy humor, creative moments, interesting characters, unique zombie violence etc. The first season also challanged viewing audiences. Remember when the zombies ate the horse?! I was at the edge of my seat. Remember when the shot the little zombie girl in the face and showed everything? Epic. As the show progressed it lost most of these elements in favor of "a good television show." So now I am stuck with a show that has needless drama, repetitive and redundant plot lines, boring characters, cheesy music, boring zombie action, unrealistic character behavior, and above all forced emotions. I dont give a shit if beth lives or dies, in fact if she never showed up again on the walking dead I would not even remember to miss her. But Herschel on the other hand was killed without style or any sense of emotional buildup. This is a perfect example of how the show portrays characters unrealistically. No just no. This would not happen. When watching this I actually wondered, "Is this really the best that the writers of this show had to offer us?" There is so much more they could have done with this episode. You almost feel like they are running out of ideas.
  8. I might try to see them again on this tour. I wasnt too impressed with them live last time. Their sound was pretty muddy. That could be in part because Protest the Hero played after them, and they were super tight and clean.
  9. I just got it for 10$. How does amazon typically handle orders when they are out of stock?
  10. I wanted that new Sleep board but damn I need da cash.
  11. Black records are dangerous. Do not under any circumstances place one on your table.
  12. It is because Tremulant to Bedlam is the classic era. People were expecting something big after Bedlam and they dropped the ball. This has to do in part with the MAJOR band changes between the classic era of bedlam to Octahedron. They didnt even ask Ikey to come back into the studio. No Ikey/ weak volta. It is literally that simple. You know the difference between at the drive in and mars volta: Ikey. Octahedron wasnt truly memorable. The funny thing is that some of Omars albums from that exact time are far more interesting. Take un escorpion perfumado. It came out a little after Octaheadron but is my favorite Omar solo record and it is more energetic, memorable and fun than Octahedron. It also has to do with the conflicts in the band were really in high gear by Octahedron (cedric omar) and that took a tole on the music. I think another thing to consider is that the record did not have much new to offer. In that respect Noctourniquet is more intersting than Octahedron, because at least it was fresher. They kept saying they wanted Octahedron to be their acoustic record. Fine. But they had already explored the acoustic avenue multiple times throughout their Volta career. Listening to a whole album of memories of what they wanted to do years ago came across to me like a snooze fest. But at the end of the day I LOVE volta and listen to all their records, albeit some less frequently than others. Agreed
  13. Sort of. Eugene was a liar. Rosita was simply following Abraham rather than the objective. And finally Abraham is an idiot. That was kind of obvious from the beginning. He has no control over his emotions and relies on brute strength instead of intellect to solve most problems. Most of the time it takes someone far younger than him (Like glenn) to baby him and calm him down to prevent Abraham from potentially murdering everyone. Factoring in Abraham's backstory, it seems he was only chasing this DC pipe dream because it allowed him to live another day. It didn't appear clear to me that anyone in that group truly was interested in the bigger picture at all. I mean ironically Eugene for example tried at every chance to prevent them from finding the bigger picture. Maybe no one in that group was a skeptic, but come on, would YOU believe Eugene? I would have an extremely difficult time chalking up his bullshit answers to him being "different". Abraham does not seem like the type to be skeptical or ever inquire or peer into the truth, so he probably never really got to the bottom of Eugene. Well the show makes it pretty clear. Eugene just makes up some idea that he is the savior of the world and Abraham seems to just believe it right then and there. (Maybe the show will provide more light as to why Abraham believed him.) There are def. skeptics on the show though: Rick for one. This x 1000.
  14. Free dkrtz! 2014 Release this illegally detained board member!
  15. DC did not count because Eugene was full of shit. I wasnt aware about that time discrepancy. Thanks! But even if it has only been two years my point still stands. I certainly agree with you that survival is the only goal of MOST people. My point is that (to me personally) it is unrealistic to portray that few to no characters engage in conversation about the outside world or the bigger picture. It is almost a taboo subject across the board. All I am saying is that IF I was in the group I certainly would be focused on survival but I would also be ocassionally inquiring or investigating outside of Georgia. I would not believe that the entirety of America let a lone the world was JUST like Georgia. It simply is not plausible. There are too many variables. There has to be variable states of decay. Yes! That is one of the reasons it bothers me. The show set the standard early on for the characters showing interest in the larger picture. That is one of the primary reasons I feel it is unrealistic to ignore that concept. By the way the Military HAS had an on and off/rare presence within the show. Remember the helicopter? I am a believer that there is still some Military infrastructure (how large or small who knows.)
  16. I can understand this perspective, but I feel that after 5 years one of the many groups featured on the show would have encountered someone with knowledge of the outside world. I find it hard to believe that this has never happened at least on a small scale. There has to be at least one or two characters that have an interest in something larger than themselves, their group and their state (I know I sure would be.) The show tries to present the idea that everyone in georgia only thinks about georgia or maybe just themselves. While I feel this idea is most certainly true initially after the outbreak it could not prove true as the years wore on. People would become stronger as they learn from experience and because of this characters have more time to ponder what is actually going on. We ARE seeing the characters get stronger but when they ponder it is usually bullshit. Most of the dialogue, gestures, commentary is not inquisitive enough and is relegated to drama, "emotional moments" or at best the present challenges. I don't expect all the characters to be inquisitive about the nations health or future, but at least one? And no Eugene does not count nor did he ever.
  17. That about sums it up. Yes. But the more the Walking Dead show shifts their focus from the zombie epidemic to the characters the more depth the show loses (for me personally). This is due mainly in part to the newest character line up not really containing much depth (or intrigue any way.) I could not have cared less when Bob died, dont care about abraham or Eugene (especially Eugene because he was overly suspicious from the beginning, making his demise anti climatic). If this show could add some decent characters to the mix I think I would have a more enjoyable time watching it. What happened to the characters like hershel or dale? The walking dead needs to address these issues much more fully: 1)How widespread is the epidemic? Is it contained within the east coast of america? Is it spread throughout North America? Is it spread to the continents? 2)What is going on with the government? What about international governments? How are they handling the epidemic?
