I'm not "punishing" anyone. If someone pm'd me asking for a copy and I said "no, f you" - thatd be punishing. You guys push so many people away I've seen it happen in lots of topics. People just need to be friendlier and less intrusive into other peoples lives.
Now I don't want this shitshow thread to get even worse so I just have to kindly ask that people stop following me into topics and insulting me. It's grade school.

Look at it from my point of view. I make ~15 posts in this massive topic about my hunt for a red. Because people on this site can be major killjoys, I got downvotes til my profile said -130. Now I know not everyone downvoted, but that was enough for me to not want to jump and help the community that was a dick to me for no reason.
I'm sorry to agua, you're a good dude. I really feel bad about that.
But Toko, you're a little bitch dude. Following me around in topics insulting me. Grow a spine.

kess's incessant search for a red copy was annoying. then it was cool he got a copy. people rejoiced with him, me included. it was actually kind of funny. then he went to sell it on ebay. someone caught him. VC hates flippers so he got burned pretty bad. toki + flipping = bloodlust, so we knew he was going to start acting like a child when he caught wind of it. unfortunately kess tried to pass off "trying to sell it on ebay for below what he paid" as a noble act. he got called out pretty quickly because he could have 1) sold it on ebay for a BIN price lower than what he bought it for, or 2) easily sold it here for cheaper, but he was too afraid to get lit up by everyone. instead, he started the auction at 99 cents and then tried to defend it in front of the VC jury, which didn't hold up well, and then he got really defensive as the jury started throwing tomatoes at him, which is how the VC judicial system works.

i'll be selling sparknotes for this thread in 2014 when it becomes required reading in schools

The difference lies in intention, I'd say.  No flipper (that I know of) is going to buy an album to sit on for three years, and then attempt to sell for profit.  They're in it for the immediate satisfaction.  They want to make a quick buck by gouging someone who was less fortunate to obtain a copy for whatever reason, and they want a quick turnaround.  No one is going to "tie up" their money for three years.  A lot of records that fetch big bucks - Deja Entendu, for instance - were readily available for a long while before they sold out and became worth something.  I purchased my copy of it in 2007, and sold it in 2012 for a considerable profit.  It was a decision I had waffled over for quite a while, but it came down to me needing the money for bills (and records I enjoy more) than holding onto one record for nostalgia.  That's not flipping -- that's reluctantly selling a cherished record that was in supply, years ago, that happened to gain value over the years.

When Deja gets repressed - and assuming there's a rare variant that sells out in an hour - if I were to intentionally buy a copy to hold onto for a week, and then turn around to sell for quadruple the retail value... that is flipping.  The difference seems pretty clear to me.

Selling for a profit ≠ flipping.

Apparently not, because I didn't post about my auction and some internet detective found it and posted it and caused it to get trainwrecked.

Yep, and I'm thoroughly enjoying listening to my actual copy. I just overpaid for the other and wanted to get my money back. I feel like the only explanation for people freaking out ITT would be people thinking that I bought two copies intentionally - but I've stated multiple times that that isn't the case... so yeah. Sad

If I started it at .99 cents and it ended up at 50 dollars, I'd have lost money. Your logic is flawed.

Gotta get the history right. I overpaid for a copy, ended up having another (cheaper) copy come though. Tried to sell my copy at BELOW what I paid, on ebay, without saying anything on here. People raged at me and some really unhappy person overbid my auction, winning it, and obviously didn't pay. That pissed me off, so I listed it for more than I was going to get originally, and someone bought it. I hope that person who overbid is happy

Yep. I was selling it on ebay to get my cost back, it was going to sell for $8 dollars more than I paid for it - and that pissed off so many people that some dummy account overbid and won the auction for 122 dollars.

Well I relisted it with a BiN of $100 thanks to you guys and your "nobility" and someone just bought it.

So I've been summoned to the topic, and I'm going to address this. ONCE. If you care to discuss ethics with me, feel free to PM me. I'm not going to continue talking about it in this topic.

Yes, I'm selling my 2nd red copy on ebay. Here's the backstory, for those who care -- I was trying VERY hard to find a red variant because I really, really love this album. None of my attempts were working, until one day, two things came through and I somehow found myself with two red copies.

"Why didn't you sell it to a VC user at cost?!"

The first I paid 50 for, which was reasonable, and the second I had dropped 80 on (less reasonable) - but that was only because I didn't think the first one would come through. At this point, I just wanted to make my money back. And on a side note, I wasn't too inclined to help out a bunch of people who downvoted my posts because I was excitable. Talk about a group of killjoys.

I put it on ebay for 75 dollars, LESS than I paid for it. At that point, it was up to the bidders. I didn't tell anyone to bid higher, but they did. Because supply and demand. And that is such a basic concept that even an elementary schooler can tell you the basics.

EVERYONE has sold a record for profit if they've collected for long enough. And if you haven't, well, you're terrible at economics. If you think it's "noble" to sell a record for way cheaper than it will go for, then props to you, but I'm an adult with bills to pay and I have to worry about that while juggling this expensive hobby on the side, so yes, if a record fetches a certain price - BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO PAY - I'm going to sell it for that price. Sorry if you don't have money issues because you still live with mom and dad. You don't have to spend the money, and no one is forcing the people who DO spend that money to do so.

I also am selling my Head and the Heart sonic boom edition, as someone found and posted in the other topic. Similar story. I got the Sonic Boom one because I missed the original loser edition and I happened to be online during the brief time it went on sale. Later that week I saw the loser edition in Amoeba and I got that. I liked the loser edition more. The sonic boom edition was selling on Ebay for 90-120 dollars. Why would I sell for less, if that's what it goes for? It's insane that some people think you're a bad person for giving in to market economics. No one would blink an eye at someone selling Demon Days for 200 dollars, despite the fact that it cost 15 dollars when it first came out.

Moral of the story is, downvote me all you want if it makes you happy. The number beside my name in my profile is already so low that I couldn't give two shits. Anyone who has taken a moment to talk to me on the board outside of these shit-fest topics or had a transaction with me can verify that I'm an incredibly friendly and nice person, which is more than I can say for the lot of you.

Hey I purchased an extra OLG and Juturna in hopes someone would want to trade the 2 represses for an original juturna unplayed copy. It was just an idea, I have no problem keeping them if needed! Or ill just sell them to you for the regular price, but its worth a shot, and stop giving this post negative feedback, there is nothing wrong with bartering.
