PAINT IT BLACK - New Lexicon LP on Rivalry Records >>

Posted on 11/13/2007 by Kyle

We are pleased to announce that Rivalry Records will be releasing the new PAINT IT BLACK "New Lexicon" album on 12" LP vinyl format, under exclusive license from Jade Tree. (Jade Tree is releasing the album on CD and digital download formats - www.jadetree.com).

Check out an mp3 from the album: http://www.rivalryrecords.com/media_sounds.asp .

New Lexicon will be released in stores February 19th. Pre-orders for the LP will begin sometime in the next month or so via http://www.RivalryRecords.com. We are working on upgrading our webstore so those who pre-order the LP will be able to digitally download the mp3s when the street date rolls around using their original Rivalry webstore Order Number. Keep your eyes peeled for that. If you'd like to pre-order the CD now, you can do so at http://www.jadetree.com/releases/product/JT1115

PAINT IT BLACK’s New Lexicon was not easy to produce, but it’s gritty, thunderous and ugly—just the way hardcore punk should be.

New Lexicon marks PAINT IT BLACK’s first recording with new drummer Jared Shavelson (Hope Conspiracy, None More Black) and boasts guest vocals from Jeff Pezatti (Naked Raygun). Still, many of the best surprises occur behind the scenes.

Rather than straining to re-create “lo-fi” in a studio, New Lexicon rings in an aggressive clarity from engineer J. Robbins’ (Modern Life is War, Against Me!). With a thick low-end up front (think Bad Brains’ Roir sessions), New Lexicon says that aggression doesn’t have to be found only in thick guitars.

From here, the album was passed on to co-producer Oktopus of the indie hip hop group Dalek. Here, the existing sounds of feedback, bass booms and cymbal crashes were twisted into haunting ambient interludes and serpentine waves trailing behind the buzz saw riffs.

With little debate, this is PAINT IT BLACK’s finest hour ...or, half-hour, anyway, with 15 songs clocking in at a dizzying 30 minutes, 26 seconds.

mp3: Past Tense, Future Perfect

PAINT IT BLACK recently rocked The Fest VI in Gainesville, FL along with CLOAK/DAGGER, NEW MEXICAN DISASTER SQUAD, and YOUNG WIDOWS. Check out this article in the Gainesville Sun about PIB's raucous house show.

I'm stoked that a lablel that focuses on vinyl is putting this out. Jade tree did a great job with the last PIB lp, but I can tell they'd rather deal with cd's. Rivalry does some of the best, most collectible hardcore records out right now. They are the new era's Dischord or Revelation when it comes to collectible hardcore records

i buy the majority of records rivalry puts out but even still thats an incredibly bold comparison to make. not sure if id go that far. i just cant see allegiance and go it alone be talked about in the same breath as warzone, judge, gb, etc...

either way im stoked on this record. yemin can do no wrong.
