burntwolf
I have someone from Italy looking to buy something from me, but I've noticed a few eBay listings that say they will ship international to everywhere BUT Italy. I'm pretty sure I have shipped things to Italy in the past w/o issue. Is something going on now that I should be wary of?
chiefwahoo
I've seen that as well but I love dealing with Italy. I don't know why people are so afraid of it, but I get records at silly prices because of it.
xfedaykinx
i think it has a lot to do with their poor postal carriers, leading people to complain about not receiving packages and such. id just make sure to send it registered mail. its an extra $10 but id say worth the peace of mind. Duff
the problems with shipping to italy are packages showing up beat all to hell and in turn the records are damaged pretty bad, or the packages dont show up at all. the buyer wants a refund obviously and the headaches of that process begins. thebaroness
Italian customs are very hard to deal with and packages often get held up in their bureaucracy for months on end, resulting in buyers filing claims even though the seller has shipped the item. If you do send there, make sure you use registered post and keep documentation relating to shipping dates etc. Also, be specific when marking the customs form for expedience (i.e. if it's vinyl, mark 'phonographic records - music', rather than just 'records' because that's another source of delay)
xlovecolouredx
one thing i know about customs decalration on packet to italy is they will charge import tax in very expensive rate immediately if you marked 'other' and it will send back to you if you declare gift but put the invoice inside the packet.... mattisr1984
ive only shipped 1 record to italy and didnt have a problem. though, i find international shipping in general to be a huge pain in the ass and have since stopped doing it altogether. sonix
I'd only ship internationally on here. eBay is a big no-no.
mynameisdan
italy is crazy. while i was there my professor had his credit card info stolen. people hunch over atm's like their life depends on it. and, AND, i watched a woman with a baby strapped to her chest get on the bus at one stop, pickpocket the hell out of everyone around her, and get off at the next stop. and the whole time an old woman was screaming and pointing at her. crazy. thebaroness
that's funny, because I was in Florence for 3 months and I reckon it was even safer there than in Melbourne (which is not an area riddled with crime by any means). I didn't see any shit go down, though a few bands had their trailers boosted while I was there.
