cj
I wanted to read this and went out to the comic store and asked for the first book and he gave me the first book from the Sandman Mystery Theatre series. Should i read it or read the first series before i get into the Mystery Theatre series?
kurtz
They are two completely seperate and different series'. So it really doesn't matter. Mystery Theatre features the Golden Age Sandman, Wesley Dodds. Sandman is about a completely different character, Morpheus, who is the lord of dreams. The name is the only thing they have in common. andrew13
the Morpheus one i think is terribly overrated. tried a couple trades and couldn't stand the book.

Mystery Theatre is not bad, but it doesn't even come close to how great Sandman is.
robotnerd
the Morpheus one i think is terribly overrated. tried a couple trades and couldn't stand the book. i totally disagree with this statement. some of the trades are better than others, yes. but it's one of my favorite series of all time. i TORE through it. i read all 10 trades in about 2 months. jpw
To help any confusion in the store if you ask for Neil Gaiman's(pronounced gayman) sandman you'll get the right one. Yes read it. Its one of the most Epic and awesome comic series ever. Yes some of the trades are better than others but overall its pretty hard to beat sandman. Only thing that rivals it for me is preacher. flood
ive gotten the first two absolute collections, after reading all the trades years ago... hands down the best written comic book series ever.
andrew13
still have to disagree. Scalped, 100 Bullets, Preacher, Transmet, DMZ, Northlanders and American Virgin are all far better IMO. but, to each their own. the ones i read reminded me to much of some of the later ABC comics when Moore was just trying to do weird shit i think to piss off people. enjoyadrian
this is one of those trades i've always wanted to read, but got confused on what's what and where to begin. Plus The comic shops around here never have the first trade of either series.

jhulud
The only Sandman I have read was the one-off graphic novel illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. It was fantastic.

These are all the books in the original series. They are all essential reading. After you read them you could go into some of the spin offs if you want. Vol. 1 - Preludes and Nocturnes Vol. 2 - Doll's House Vol. 3 - Dream Country Vol. 4 - Season of Mists Vol. 5 - A Game of You Vol. 6 - Fables and Reflections Vol. 7 - Brief Lives Vol. 8 - World's End Vol. 9 - Kindly Ones Vol. 10 - The Wake
