celebdeath
anyone know why 10" pressings are usually so thin? probably expense issues, but am wondering if anyone has any other insight? just got the new qotsa 3x10" and it sounds pretty rubbish. v thin vinyl... minty
Any record can be thin, it was probably a shitty pressing plant. The BtMI! / OP!!! 10"s are really heavy / thick and sound awesome.

benchwarmer
yea I just got the mighty mighty bosstones "question the answers" 2x 10" and it's thick.
hickey
Those german Dwarves/Blag Dahlia 10"s were nice thick vinyl and sounded great. The Loved Ones 10" on Chunksaah, if I remember correctly, was also nice. I've had some flimsy ones, but I don't think it has anything to do with the records being 10"s, I think it has more to do with who pressed them. LPs are the same way. Look at the S/T Lifetime album. That was some of the thinnest vinyl I've seen in a while.

I'm glad I didn't shell out money for that. I want that album a lot but if it sounds shitty, I'd rather not.

Guest scriptedrain
None of the 10"s we own are that thin. Radiohead - Kid A (2x10") better not be thin. I haven't got myself to open it yet, though. lol
impact
i got a bunch of 10" records that ARENT thin, and are on cool colored wax too!
celebdeath
well, the qotsa one is ipecac and it dont sound real good. our subways album (stop laughing you guys!) sounds rubbish too as does the datsuns 10" we've got. the dysrhythmia / xthoughstreamsx red 10" is GARBAGE. but my earthless 'sonic prayer' 10" sounds great. the majority of my 10" records sound really bad and are thin as. :-(
joelifeline
10"s are only thin depending on the pressing plant that is used.
aarondanger
the op/bomb 10" is actually thick in my opinion. it depends on where the records are pressed
minty
the op/bomb 10"is actually thick in my opinion. it depends on where the records are pressed The BTMI split was done by PiratePress, right? I'm gonna be getting some 10"s pressed soon using the same plant as they do.
impact
lots of people use pirate press these days. are they that good, or is it because they have cool color options?
minty
lots of people use pirate press these days.are they that good, or is it because they have cool color options? Both! I'm not going to be using PP though, there's a U.K company that uses the same plant (Which is based in Europe) so I can get all the whacky colour schemes I want without getting taxed out of my ass.
