Like a lot of famous rappers, I think Snoop's allegiance to the Crips (like Game and Lil' Wayne's connection to the Bloods) is primarily just symbolic; a way of shouting out his past. He may at one time have been involved in actual gang life, but I don't think any drive-by plans go through Snoop these days. I also think it's probably way easier than disavowing his old gang.
