SKA IS DEAD!

Recommended Posts

i feel bad that ska is one genre i never really got into.

it just seems so...fun!

we will never be friends.

today i gave against me! another chance and found that upon further listen, i actually like them, contrary to what i previously had thought.

so there's hope for me. maybe. :[

if ska is ever to come back, it's going to lie on the shoulders of all the third wave bands still kicking it. the amount of GOOD, new, up and coming ska bands is very small

theres alot of decent newish acts out there out there..moreso on the ska-punk side of things.. bands like sonic boom six, tip the van, we are the union ... theres also a decent amount of younger start ups that are decent enough for their age to keep an eye on

tip the van don't really do much for me and they've been around for a few years now. saw sonic boom six with the pilfers in november and i felt for every good song they did, they had an equally bad song. I do enjoy we are the union, they actually surprised me for being so good. reminded me a lot of lifetime playing ska.

there is a big scene in the Philly/NYC/NJ/W-B area. other than that, ska is pretty much gone. in western pa we almost never get ska shows. in W-B there were several really good young bands like Slightly Askew, The Argyles, Big Green, and Bob & the Sagets (who later became the Menzingers!)
