gravitylovesdrunks
hey guys, so the question is the title of this thread. is it safe to ship one 7" in a 12" mailer? also, for all you canadian posters, do they charge more for an item in a 12" box or does it go strictly by weight? thanks a lot guys. adamlikesmusic
I stick it in a plastic sleeve, wrap with bubblewrap, and tape it to the inside of the mailer, preventing it from moving. It's generally by weight, unless it's oversized.
jawbreaker
I do the same thing. I just feel that the 7" is better protected with a bunch of bubblewrap and a larger shipping container. Plus I find that the mail carriers don't try to stuff a 12"box in a regular mailbox like they do with the smaller boxes or packets that 7"s sometimes get mailed in. patron
When I only ship a single 7", I just get a big brown envelope, secure the 7" between two pieces of card stock, put it in the envelope and tape it up so there's not a bunch of envelope with nothing in it. gravitylovesdrunks
big brown envelope= good idea. is it secure enough though? also, how much does it cost you to ship out (to the states)?

patron
big brown envelope= good idea. is it secure enough though? also, how much does it cost you to ship out (to the states)? As long as you secure the 7" with thick stock (or two pieces of thin), it's definitely secure enough. Costs me $4.20 to ship it airmail to the states that way. cj
if you do it in a brown envelope with cardboard then it ships as regular letter mail out of canada
stefan
One last tip: If you use two cardboard pieces (in some way or another), have the fibers/ridges/corrugations be at right angles to each other...eg.- top one is == bottom is |||||

cadetapplesauce
lots of times i just get a box, flatten it, and make my own mailer.
monk0nuggets
I shipped my 7" this week and what I did was take a regular sized mailer and cut it down, basically making a 7" mailer out of it. It worked quite dandy if I do say so myself.
celebdeath
staples have hard card envelopes that fit 7"s perfectly.

thomas
I have to ship out a 7" to someone who bought one off me on ebay, and the hard cardboard mailler I was going to mail it in ripped. So I wrapped it in bubble wrap, taped it to the inside of a LP mailer and padded up with more bubble wrap until it was nice and snug. Whoever opens it will have lots of fun unwrapping tape and bubble wrap.
melikecheese
When I only ship a single 7", I just get a big brown envelope, secure the 7" between two pieces of card stock, put it in the envelope and tape it up so there's not a bunch of envelope with nothing in it. I get 7"s from labels like this all the time, it works just fine, never had a problem.
hickey
In a pinch, I've sandwiched the record in cardboard and used an 8 by 10 photo mailer, those seem to work really well. They're nice and rigid and already say "do not bend" on them.
