bobbie
Do you guys sleeve your records? or not at all? i am still new to the collecting scene and I just want to get some opinions. Some of the pictures i've seen some of you don't sleeve them, just wondering why. thanks to all future post(s).
Guest falloutcollapse
I put it in a plastic protective outside sleeve, take the record out, and put it behind the cover.

Guest vito
if they're stored upright and not too tightly, it's fine to leave them in the jackets. that is what that they're intended for. anyway, to answer your question, yes i put them all in sleeves. a few of my records aren't currently because i ran out last week. googlemyass
resealables are my preference for sealing them. ive learned it is a good idea to put the record itself in a plastic sleeve if it comes in a picture sleeve, put it outside of the picture sleeve that way it doesnt tear/rip. mystic84
I put it in a plastic protective outside sleeve, take the record out, and put it behind the cover. why put the record behind the cover? cuz when you keep it inside of the cover for a long time, you get the cover "circle-marked" by the record. AKA Ring Wear. Although, as long as your records aren't jammed in tight on a shelf your chance for ring wear is small. I've been collecting records for 15 years and some of the first ones I got look fine.

jhulud
I keep all my records on resealable plastic sleeves. The records themselves in paper sleeves and inside the jackets. I have never had any get ringwear outside of some that I have gotten via trades or sales that already had it. Here are some pics on how I keep them: On this particular record, the record sleeve is printed, so I put the record itself in a plain paper one so as to not tear the printed one. On some of my records (esp. ones with flimsy jackets) I use this record insert to minimize ringwear (http://www.bagsunlimited.com/cart/detail.asp?cat=2&subcat=23&product_id=klpic) ...I know...I need to clip my fingernails... monk0nuggets
I didn't know you could buy those inserts. I might have to pick some of those up.
jhulud
They come in handy esp. on some records that don't necessarily have jackets, only gatefold sleeves like the MTB test press I have and the Polar Bear record. This adds extra protection.
bobbie
so plastic sleeves on the outside are good for extra protection, and the paper sleeve on the inside is better if it didn't come with one. Awesome, thanks alot
jhulud
^^ Yes on both.
