Fartcat
My friend Shawn was curious in releasing a batch of maybe 10-20 for his new record. This seems like an awfully small amount, would any company be willing to do that? Thanks guys.
desensitizedbyu
Why so few?
xjustinxschwierx
hahaha i mean you could in theory but i'm guessing most places would either hang up on you or not return your messages...
Fartcat
He's a record collector, and so are alot of our friends, so he just wants to do a special pressing for family and friends, he doesn't want to press alot because he assumes they won't sell. xjustinxschwierx
realistically, tell him the minimum to expect would be 100-150.
Fartcat
Ya, most of the websites I have looked at have had at least 100 minimum...guess he is shit out of luck.
matt
I suppose you could theoretically just get tests made and have that be the end of it. I initially did 101 tests and didn't think I was pressing more and the plant had no problems with it.
Guest afsdan
get extra tests or get lathe cuts made
One Hundred Fifty-Two
Maybe shawns band should get better

thisthatrecords
Press 100 and have a record release show with some bigger bands and hand out a free record to everyone who pays to get in. He will be losing a lot of money but its still cool to have your record in that many peoples hands. And atleast he doesn't have big ass boxes of records with no way to get rid of them. This way, there can be 20 with an alternate cover (For the friends and family) and 80 for the show.
forgeagain
Lathe cuts are the only option if this guy doesn't want to do the test pressing thing. I guess in theory he could just pay for 100 and receive 20. I'm sure plants wouldn't mind that.
rtw88
It would probably be easier as well as more cost effective to just make a hand screened cover /20 or something.
Guest markovianprocess
Another way of raising money for pressing 100 copies is to use something like http://www.kickstarter.com/. He could set up a project saying how he is releasing a new album and he can only press a minimum of 100 copies, and would anyone be willing to back him. Pledge $x and get a record and a personalised thank you e-mail or something. It really worked with this idea below. It wasn't vinyl (CDs and downloads), but it goes to show there are people out there willing to back ideas. This made its target after only one day. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/waxpancake/kind-of-bloop-an-8-bit-tribute-to-miles-davis

justindinealone
as mentioned about, i would say just do tests. kickstarter is a really great idea, we're definitely looking into it...
Fartcat
Kickstarter would have been amazing but its only available to United States residents.
fordocumentationon
Anyone know a ballpark figure as to how much it would be to do 100 (or so) tests?
Fartcat
Looking around it was $600-800 that was the cheapest I personally found.

barrettrecords
I think we are going to try and use kickstarter to fund our upcoming Transit "Stay Home" LP. Different donation levels will be rewarded with Barrett Records music, and merch. Also with limited copies of Stay Home. And with a larger donation a thank you on the record and our website. The only problem is that we need a kickstarter invite to start...... Does anyone have one? Or know someone that could give us one??? Any help would be amazing!
