Just got back from Jimmy Eat World

This was my 7th time seeing them, and it's definitely up there as one of the best sets I've witnessed. 90+ minutes, 21 songs, stuff I'd never heard live before (holy shit, "Robot Factory"?!?), the band sounded crisp and clean, the lighting was perfect... Definitely a great experience overall. I recommend anyone go if they're coming near you.

T-shirts were $25, hoodies were $40; they had CDs of Chase This Light ($10) and the Stay On My Side Tonight EP ($8), but even cooler, they had the vinyl for Chase This Light and Futures, and both were only $12 each (a total steal for the latter one since it's a double LP).

Here's everything they played, broken down by album:

Static Prevails - Robot Factory

Clarity - Crush, For Me This Is Heaven, Blister, Goodbye Sky Harbor

Bleed American - Bleed American, A Praise Chorus, the Middle, Your House (new version), Sweetness, Hear You Me, Get It Faster

Futures - Work, Pain, Polaris, 23

Stay On My Side Tonight EP - Disintegration

Chase This Light - Big Casino, Let It Happen, Always Be, Carry You

I like how you do the setlist by breakdown of albums. This is one solid solid set though, and I wish I could have gotten that Futures on vinyl.

Was Goodbye Sky Harbor all rock'd the fuck out? The only time I've seen them was in 2000, right after the Jebediah split came out (or maybe right before, I'm not sure) and they closed with GSH, foregoing the quiet dynamic in the chorus of the album version, and instead just bashing it out. SO. GOOD.

They toyed with the dynamics a bit. They played it pretty straightforward and got really quiet, then did a solid minute or so of amps-to-11 shit.

FUCKING STOKED for Sunday. But it's a really shitty venue and I have seats. They announced a Detroit show TONIGHT, going on sale at 10am, and tickets are gonna be like $40 because they are headlining a stupid radio show (damn you 89x).... BUT I SO WANT TO GO. Goddamn being poor. I'd cut off my little finger to go to this show.

Setlist looks awesome. Fucking "Disentegration"! "Goodbye Sky Harbor" is so awesome live too. A lot of my favorites are in that set. My wife is going to have to put up with me being geeked out AGAIN - and we just saw Weakerthans last week.

edit : Coheed and Cambria will also be there. Could it be... an excuse to talk my wife into buying $100 in concert tickets?

edit II The Wrath of Kahn : Scott I just saw your comment on JEW's myspace. Cute.

Honestly, this was one of the weakest shows of theirs I've seen. To me it seemed as if they really were bored up there during some songs. The stuff off Clarity sounded great as did "Robot Factory" and "Disintegration" but they played way too much off Bleed American for my tastes.

Well they actually didn't really play any BA tracks until the encore (which was Your House/Hear You Me/Polaris/Sweetness/The Middle). I thought the actual set was incredibly well-balanced. While I do feel like the songs they played off the other albums are the same songs they always play off the other albums, I can't be too mad because they did an entire tour a few months ago of the "quieter" songs (which didn't play here -- argh).

Yeah, but I really wouldn't have minded if they only played A Praise Chorus and left it at that. I know that's a stupid thing to think but I'm not really a fan of that album at all. My biggest problem overall was the fact that they seemed bored throughout the show.

i saw them play Robot Factory once a long time ago, right after Bleed American came out and it was awesome.

the last time I saw them play they were so bad that i've sworn to not ever see them live again. for two reasons:

1)Tom was either drunk or stoned so badly that when they played Bleed American Hits I didn't know what the fuck they were playing...until the chorus hit then i was revolted...besides that the band kind of phoned in their performance as a whole anyway. (this was the Flower 15 fest show) so I was so bummed out that they could be so bad i went home and didn't stay for the late show to see the Smoking Popes. major bummer.

2)the biggest place i've seen them is the Metro and to me, that bands is about live crowd-band dynamics and they can barely achieve this at Metro, i don't want to wast my time seeing them at an arena.

despite all my naysaying I still do buy their records, i just don't plan on ever seeing them live again and further ruining my opinion of them.

AH! You let JEW get in the way of the Popes! Blasphemy! That show was great!

Yeah, JEW were underwhelming at Flower15, completely agreed. It was just another show to them. I really thought they'd try to do something special.

And kingbuzzo, they didn't seem bored to me at all last night, especially not during Robot Factory/Crush/Blister. Jim was freaking out onstage! Where were you standing?

I was right up front and off to the right side of the stage. I'll agree that Jim seemed into it, mostly on the older material, but the rest of the band was kind of standing there looking as though they weren't having any fun most of the set. I don't mean to sound like I hated the entire set because I really loved the older stuff.

We got there literally two minutes before JEW went on, so the closest we could get was on the right-hand side about 6 feet before the stairs down to the pit. Had a pretty good vantage point, though. And I dunno if you've ever seen JEW before, but they're really not all that exciting of a live act. What you saw last night is essentially what I've seen seven times now, in terms of stage presence.

Yeah, I've seen them a few times now. I knew it wasn't going to be the most exciting show I've ever been to but I didn't expect Tom and Rick to kinda just stand there. All in all it wasn't a "bad" show but it was just disappointing I guess.

I really liked the venue though. It seemed like most anywhere you could stand would be a semi-decent place to watch from.
