faith
This thread is for bitching about how much it sucks to have to give a speech. Yeah, tomorrow I have to give a speech in class about the 3 aspects of Ma'at. At least I know the subject very well, but it still sucks
altarsofradness
my pulic speaking class was a lot easier once i realized there's always someone 10x worse at giving speeches.
faith
haha yeah. I'm sure I'll do great, I just hate it
mrc
i feel comfortable speaking when i know the subject inside and out. In college my speaking class was difficult because i would always speak so fast. Maybe it was because i had a written scripts and now i seem to do better from just talking points
monk0nuggets
Speeches suck. I teach a 50 minute lesson in my Interpersonal Communication class 2 weeks ago. That sucked. I got through it and got an 87. Not bad. Good luck!

Guest falloutcollapse
I love public speaking so, so much. I used to, but after I got this stupid thing implanted in my mouth by my orthodontist, talking is a bitch. I sound so stupid.
rschoene
The key to public speaking in knowing your information inside and out and having an extremely laid out game plan. Then knowing who you are talking to. Why are most college classes only 1 hour long, it is hard for most people over 18 to remain attentive for that long. The best college professors break up the monotomy of lectures by segmenting their classes with more time for interaction. I am only writing because I am a training coordinator for a pretty large company and have to conduct training with anywhere from 5 to 100 people ranging from 1 hour to 2 weeks. I meditate before eack session and carry out the session in my head. Hope this advice can help.
Guest scriptedrain
Speech class is why I'm not writing for the Minneapolis Star Tribune (and beyond). It's my achilles heel.
tommytumult
Like everyone else said, speeches are easy if you know the subject matter. I found it helps to imagine everyone in the audience is an asshole and you don't give a flying fuck what they think about you. The whole "fuck 'em" attitude works wonders. skumbucket
i've always enjoyed public speaking. but i'm also really good at it, so that might have something to do with it. i had a fun summer, partially because i mc'd three weddings. faith
Yeah i usually have a really easy time with speeches.. however it's my first speech in english. It makes it so much harder. Words that I usually pronunce correctly come out wrong (I keep saying aspEct instead of Aspect) I always have great grades when i do speeches in French even though I scribble a few notes the morning of... skumbucket
i really hope it goes well for you, faith. it can be extremely difficult to speak at all in a second language for a lot of people, let alone do a formal speech. break a leg! kirbypuckett
I'm a really shy person, but I enjoyed giving public speeches and was pretty good at them too.
faith
thanks guys, it went pretty well (i think). I got good feedbacks from my classmates but somehow my teacher had a weird look on her face through the whole thing ... For someone who teaches nonverbal communication she should be careful haha
