U2 New 12" 5000 Only/Black Friday Releases

Recommended Posts

In other news, slicing up eyeballs reports that U2 will release a new limited-edition, vinyl-only live EP next month called Wide Awake in Europe on November 26th. The 12″ will feature live versions of No Line on the Horizon’s “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” and “Moment of Surrender”, as well as “Mercy”, a track which was recorded during the How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb sessions. The band has been playing it live since September. The release will be limited to just 5,000 individually numbered copies and will be released through independent record shops in the U.S. as a Record Store Day-like promotion on the “Black Friday”.

Wide Awake in Europe Tracklist:

SIDE A

01. “Mercy” (Live) [Recorded in Brussels, 9/21/10]

SIDE B

01. “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” (Live) [Recorded in Dublin, 7/27/09]

02. “Moment of Surrender” (Live) [Recorded in Paris, 9/18/10]

According to online retailer The Ideal Copy, the limited-edition EP is a “special release put together by the people who do Record Store Day. There’s about 40-plus items that are exclusive or early release for indie stores for ‘Black Friday.’”

Pre-Order for $11.99 here:

So this is another release for "Black Friday"......Metallica, Gaslight Anthem, QOTSA LP, George Harrison LP, etc. Wonder what else will be released, that we haven't seen listed yet....especially if there are 40+ releases scheduled.

New list here (so far): http://vvinyl.com/s/black_friday/index.php

RSD is a fucking joke.

I agree, but I am sure there are some items that fans will want to get. I am just surprised they'd do one close the holidays when people are usually strapped for cash doing Xmas shopping for family. I can see the quote now: "Sorry Timmy, you would have gotten that new Tron cycle for Christmas, but daddy needed a limited edition Gaslight Anthem 7", Soundgarden 7", and Metallica 10". Maybe Santa will make it up to you next year."

There is absolutely nothing on this list that makes me say "I need that record."

Whole lot of "yawn" to me.

RSD is a fucking joke.

You know we're talking about records, right?

It's neither a joke nor sacred...it's a retail product. Who gives a fuck?

There's nothing on that list I want and I even if there was, I wouldn't care if it came out in April, November, or whenever.

I should have been more clear why I feel that way. It is Record STORE Day, but places that don't even have physical locations are putting records up for presale. Then there are 3 song 12" records. I like some of the releases that have come out as a result of this, but I don't feel like going to a store on those days to see a bunch of people that have never been to a record store buying up every copy to sell once they get home.

Agreed, 3 Song 12" Releases Priced way too fucking high because they are pretending to be limited.

No love for RSD.

I'll agree with all of that.

  • 3 weeks later...

From my experience from the stores around here that "celebrate" RSD, it's a bunch of overpriced used CD outlets with minimal (>50) records in the corner, charging $40 for a Ramones repressing, or $15 for a Gaslight/Against Me! 7".

I understand how RSD made sense at first, but when U2 is cashing in on it, it's kind of lost its value.
