311thrice
I'm looking to get a new TV and I'm probably going to get one on Black Friday. Best Buy is going to have this plasma TV for $699: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TC-P50U2-50-Inch-1080p-Plasma/dp/B0036VO7YK After some research, it seems as though plasma TV's aren't as bad as they used to be....and they're almost on par with LCD. They last just as long and they don't doesn't really burn images into the screen anymore. So with that said, would y'all consider this a good deal? Snaggle Von Swift
still get the glare effect off a plasma, so keep that in mind if your room is well lit. and, just my preference, but I am all for Samsung, the company just makes great products/tvs. But the specs on that do sound good, and a 50" for $699 is pretty good
kittenmittons
got a 46" RCA 1080p lcd last black friday for around that much. shit is classy.
311thrice
Oh I love Samsung...if a good deal comes up for a Samsung between now and when I get a TV, I'd definitely go for that one. But like you said, I think it's going to be hard to beat a 50" for $699.

islington
I was told you still can't game on plasmas because of image burn. Don't know if it's true or not.
adamlikesmusic
For what it's worth, plasma TVs use a ton of power. I personally would prefer to save in the long-run by spending a bit more on an LCD, and in turn significantly less on electricity. http://reviews.cnet.com/green-tech/tv-consumption-chart/ I think the image burn concerns are less of an issue than they used to, however that's obviously also something to take into consideration. tylerrr
Fuck plasma! Haters gonna hate.
thebiglebowski
Bought a 47" Samsung LCD last year on Black Friday. The ONLY complaint I have is that LCD tvs have a slight delay on them. It's only a half a second or so, but it makes it impossible to play baseball video games on them (which I am a huge fan of). Destroys the timing of trying to hit the ball. No problems at all with any other game.
thebiglebowski
But that plasma is a really good deal. I'd say go for it.
kurtmanner
I bought a Panasonic Viera 42" plasma just about two years ago at best Buy and it has been awesome. I got it for $799 with a free Xbox Arcade that I traded at Wal Mart for a Pro because Best Buy refused to do it.

311thrice
Anybody have any experience with this TV? http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN46C5000-46-Inch-1080p-Black/dp/B0036EH17M Wal Mart has them on Black Friday for $898.
benchwarmer
it's so hard deciding which tv to get. there are way to many options. BUT when I do, I'm leaning towards plasma. most are energy star approved now, and the colors are better.

I think that's probably a great tv, but maybe you can do better price-wise? Last year I got a 47" samsung 120 hz LCD for $1000 from Best Buy. Given that the prices have come down pretty significantly and this is a lower end model, I would have expected the price to be at least another $100 lower. I think you might be able to do better but there is nothing wrong with that tv.
