lokithelion
I bought one of the new macbooks for work. Only problem is Airport gives me the awful wireless speed. Like 2mb from a 25mb network. Does anyone know a solution for this? I've looked online and found nothing useful.
tokimedo
tried resetting your router and all that jazz?
lokithelion
Yep. Only help I've found so far on the net is that tons of people find macbooks have slow as shit wireless out the box.
tokimedo
my airport on my mac out of the box went quick as shit....but we have fios. you sure it isnt your internet connection/router? maybe you need a new one that is specifically for mac. is this your first one? lokithelion
Yeah this is my first one. If I have to buy one specifically for mac that would suck. My router does fine with every other computer it works on. Hrm.
tokimedo
its not one specifically for mac...like it will still work on PC, it just might not be optomized to work the best with mac. they arent expensive, just get one that works well with mac. if your internet still goes slow, just return it, that way you at least know its not your router thats the issue. Far enough. I think it's just the idea of spending more money after dropping 1300 on a computer that's supposed to be a god out of the box makes me itch. What do you use? Or at least do you have one you'd recommend?
Snaggle Von Swift
I have a 8 or so year old Belkin router.. recently got my first macbook pro and haven't had any issues at all with slow network speeds, I just had to restart my modem & router first time I connected. I know this doesn't provide any suggestions, but just thinking it may be an isolated issue?

tokimedo
Yeah I just use the one Verizon provided for fios. Get a new router just to eliminate the chance of that being the issue.
Japes
Jonny Craig can help you out if you Western Union him some money. Seriously though, I've never had success with a router, ever. Ever. I gave up on them. I don't know what it is with me and routers, but they just refuse to work for me.
controlthebleeding
Loki, some routers don't always work well with macs.. unfortunately. the only thing you can do is take suggestions from people regarding certain wireless routers that do work. most do, but there are those few that for some reason have slow connection speeds (like mine at the house). I only know this because i get top speed at my volunteer job, and at my last place of residence. here not so much with the router we have on hand. Ended up having to change some security settings and I'm back in bizness. Thanks for the advice all.
oakland
You could just be running too much or need to upgrade your memory.
lokithelion
You could just be running too much or need to upgrade your memory. It's one of the latest models. 4gigs and a i5 intel chip. Runs like a dream, just hit or miss internet. It's weird.
controlthebleeding
so is it still hit or miss loki? or is it fine now?
lokithelion
so is it still hit or miss loki? or is it fine now? It's still a little hit or miss but I blame that on Comcasts shitty monopoly more than the wifi.
